Aus DD - Forum Direction and Suggestions 2011

Ah, don't feel down, everyone should know that you can't PM back because we were all there once. :)

If you have it allowed in your settings, you could instead ask people to use the 'send an email' feature and then reply using that.

the majority of the reason i dont use this much is cause i can't pm yet. And also i think most things i would post would be ignored because i dont have lots of posts, even though i think my knowledge of drugs in general is better than most. (i definately know the most in all of my friend circles combined)

Nonsense, let your posts speak for themselves, forget post counts or time on the board. We've even had mods with pretty low post counts when they got their mod sticks whose knowledge blew me away (e.g. sykik).

^^ +1.. (even though I tend to post alot of shit 8) )

while I'm here, I would like to give a huge thank you to all Aus. DD moderators.. I probably piss ya's off a fair bit but every single one of you's have always answered any question I have raised on this forum.. *gives virtual resepct* ;) :)

EDIT: Even you leftwing ;)

That's actually a good idea. I wonder what it would take to get implemented?

What about a blue<->green flashing HR icon that only staff can add? A quick glance down the Aus DD front page would be all that's needed to find threads that are considered the best for HR info.

P.S. I like the science thread idea.

^ yep good ideas thanks p_d, we're in discussions about introducing structured thread prefixes now :) A flashing icon may be harder to implement and would be an issue to discuss with the forum admins though?

yeah i dont think flashing icons are doable but definitely something along the lines of a green, blue, red or what have you prefix is; much like in support, OD, Drug Studies and F&T for example.

Even you leftwing

so how much mdma were you on last night;)

Belarki, shucks :o

Lil, owe know, there goes your magic number :(

Let me just throw in my 2c.

I want to reiterate what Busty among others have said on the issue of people leaving. I <3'd AusDD and it will always have a meaning for me, it is great in helping people get knowledge and guidance for safer drug use.

But as I grew older, my affinity towards drugs decreased. This happened for many reasons. But as I decided that semi-frequent drug use wasn't for me, all be it for reasons of quality, reasons of risk vs reward, and social reasons, my need to be part of AusDD slowly decreased. I am all but happy to answer any HR questions about drugs I know about. However, I couldn't be an active member of AusDD as it was making it extremely difficult to slow my drug use. So I made a choice, and this choice had nothing to do with the quality of posts in AusDD, they are always great quality. I know a number of members who have similar stories, and maybe of these members seem to be the people you are hinting at. Let AusDD be what it wants to be. It will be what it is, a great resource for like minded people to help each other, and I think that is amazing regardless of how many posts are day are made.

To the OP. Your posts remind me of the old joke: "How many ravers does it take to change a light bulb? 6, one to change it, and 5 to winge and complain about how the old one was brighter, better and more colorful."

Goodluck AusDD, one day I'll post my thoughts on the illusions of the casual drug user, one day.

And btw Belarki knows a hell of a lot more than you give credit for Jakeperson, I note you didn't put out the warning about brephedrone, if you're so up on rc's why didn't you?

Maybe he does. I only used his name as I see it more often throughout AusDD. I never said I am up on rc's nor did I see any warnings. Maybe I am just missing some parts.

The inclusion of social chatter within AusDD will always split camps and invariably lead to what I mentioned earlier about losing quality posters who aren't interested in reading threads that are filled with nonsensical garbage and often frequented by those from the shallow end of the gene pool. The best intentions of quality posters like Mr Ibis who can chop and change between the social and serious is the exception, rather than the rule, unfortunately. The inclusion of social threads will always lead to the seepage of shit from those threads and into threads that are not meant to be social because over time the community will change so dramatically that the majority think it's ok the 'rite lyk dis'.

But as I said, the threads could be separated. When we had the social thread, it was clearly labeled, how could that interfere with finding info? Obviously there isn't going to be any there. Was it that offending just to have on the AusDD page?

Fucking lol, that just about sums up BL right there. If you want intelligent, coherent information, a place populated by drug addicts is probably not the best place =D

Who needs HR related information the most? Drug addicts. An environment suited to them is going to bring more in and spread the message across.

Then again you get the other lot, what I like to call the drug geeks. They know far too much about a hell of a lot of three and four letter chemicals and can not spend a night without talking about getting fucked up. They seemed lost without their brain being stirred. Life is full of lots of different experiences. Sometimes sunsets are really awesome straight.

I would have thought better of some one I thought to be wiser, a very judgmental stereotype. Every one is allowed to make their own choices, especially if they know the risks involved. Sometimes sunsets are never awesome no matter what state you are in.

In the past I've recommended a kind of HR badge, where good HR or science related discussions would be labeled. That way, those here primarily for such info could easily scan Aus DD for those threads. If this model was structured properly, it may even allow for extra social chat without necessarily chasing off those who struggle to find the signal amongst the noise.

Thank you for some one listening to the separating threads idea, I'm good at ideas just not details, also I'm glad you suggested it p_d, because all of a sudden the mods are listening.

Unfortunately there is only about 3 of us left whinging and if the forum continues the way it has been, it will be left sitting alone in the dark.

^ Way to get people offside. What are you suggesting with that?

This.
also I'm glad you suggested it p_d, because all of a sudden the mods are listening.

People respect his knowledge, that's different from kissing arse.

There's some valid points in this thread but I don't think the way it's been raised is constructive...

I wouldn't say any of them, more a general theme of the place but every one kisses P_D's. :p

lol for good reason, no one I have met online or offline here has devoted the personal time, energy and resources towards harm reduction that p_d has. He deserves every skerrick of respect & arse kissing he gets. ;)

I agree with you on both points, I am a deconstructive kinda person. Normally I wouldn't have started this thread but I was sick of the complaining from others so I did, now I see why no one else did. All I've done is my best to try help, even if I am shit at it.

Yes that's very true but that doesn't make his word law.

Jesus guys everyone needs to take a chill pill.

I see where jake is coming from; perpaps he just hasn't articulated it well enough for other to understand.

I know I am relative newcomer to BL ( have been lurking since circa 2008 ) but in the time I have been here I have noticed a slow but steady decline in the sense of community in AusDD.

I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but this is likely to do with the dissapeareance of MDMA, long-time AusDD posters moving on from drugs, as well as the closing of the social thread. Living in the ass-end of bumfuck I don't have much communication with other groups on BL that seem to arise from geographical proximity; but even I can see the sense of community has slowly decreased over the last 12-18 months especially.

The dismal state of the drug scene and the rising popularity of RC's also seems to be changing the content and structure of Bluelight quite radically. The gap left by some of the more knowledgable/experienced members has been filled by those who are new to harm reduction, and until they learn/contribute more it is inevitable the content on AusDD will be less appealing to those who already have the afformentioned experience and knowledge.

The biggest, possibly hardest thing to remember is that AusDD; and Bluelight is not meant to be a social forum - it is first and foremost a Harm Reduction forum. I can't think of anything off the top of my head to improve AusDD, but it any bulbs spark I will put my 2c in. Remember everyone, the only way to make AusDD a better place is to talk about how we can do it :)

Brink back the PLUR :p
