Aus DD - Forum Direction and Suggestions 2011

The inclusion of social chatter within AusDD will always split camps and invariably lead to what I mentioned earlier about losing quality posters who aren't interested in reading threads that are filled with nonsensical garbage and often frequented by those from the shallow end of the gene pool. The best intentions of quality posters like Mr Ibis who can chop and change between the social and serious is the exception, rather than the rule, unfortunately. The inclusion of social threads will always lead to the seepage of shit from those threads and into threads that are not meant to be social because over time the community will change so dramatically that the majority think it's ok the 'rite lyk dis'.

I would liken it to lowering food standards in that it may become available to a wider demographic because of reduced prices or greater availability, however, the quality of the product is reduced proportionately. This, over time, is exactly what will happen to AusDD because the product (the posters) will reduce in quality because the standards of what is expected and allowed has been lowered. This will create a snowball effect wherein the shit will be attracted to the shit, whereas, quality posters like we've seen in the past (ie. Phase) will not bother wasting their time in a forum where people are more interested in getting 'fully fucking throttled cunt', rather than developing their drug and HR knowledge.

This is the precarious balancing act the mods of this forum are continually trying to maintain. There is no question that this balance will never meet the demands of all, however, if you go too far one way then you are going to lose either the good or the bad (depending on your definition).

I, personally, have always maintained there is no place in AusDD for a social thread because the dilution it causes, and problems it will lead to, will ultimately destroy the previous good reputation this forum has always held within the wider HR community. I don't think anyone who has been around for a while would argue that the quality of contributions has declined. We have lost some of our most knowledgeable and consistent contributors because they are sick of scrolling through rubbish similar to what was seen above from Crankinit and headdah in what should be a serious thread. Would this be different if there was a social thread??? No, it wouldn't!!!! It would only become more prevalent because the status quo would slowly change, the quality posters would move on and the shit would permeate the entire forum.

So, should you lower those standards to attract more of the same and drive away the last of the quality to greener pastures??? I guess it all depends on what you really want from this forum. :\

I'm the first one to bitch about strictness in here....but that's just me, I look for trouble

and how's this lil duck? I agree 100% with you and let us never speak of this moment again...........

I was a regular member and have been driven away by the crap, as have alot of older members.
AusDD needs to set and maintain a standard for HR as it's the only real aussie forum that deals with such matters, it's constantly being monitored by not only LE but the press, and needs to be taken seriously.

Crankinit: I mean Aus Social, no ones been banned for rambling about drugs while on drugs as far as I've seen and have been an active member since 2002

And btw Belarki knows a hell of a lot more than you give credit for Jakeperson, I note you didn't put out the warning about brephedrone, if you're so up on rc's why didn't you?

but the thing is, you not aloud to talk about drugs in Aus. social... :\

but i do oversee the forum, i'm one of the senior moderators attached to AusDD and can, with permission granted from belarki, mr blonde, d_m and psilo, act as a 5th wheel. you can't say you weren't warned for your shit. we (the actual mods of this forum and myself) discussed your behaviour and i took care of it.

get over it, i am.

I post when I'm high, state what I'm on, and how high I am, never been in the shit, and trust me, I'm not loved, I'm one of the resident 'trouble makers'

All good, I figured after I posted that my post must have just got lost in the ether somewhere.

I just said that when I first started posting I was a bit intimidated but I never encountered any meanness as a newbie. If you use common sense you're unlikely to encounter any problems at all (and not directed at pisspotnrock because I have no idea what happened there).

I would love to see some kind of BL stats-page.
Something showing the general tone or mood of each post vs day/date/time - lol i reckon thurs/fri/sat posts would have a little more peace and love from all the 'weekend warriors'.
sunday and monday nights however... =(

I'm not going to say too much here - I've done that ad nauseam in past threads on this topic - but I will address a couple of comments.

Why not the ravesafe crew wear it on their T-shirt? Why isn't there signs at festivals saying "BLUELIGHT.RU Unbiased education on illicit substances"

Well, let's just say there is more than one independent (non government/ grant supported) RaveSafe group operating in Australia that is both willing and able to wear Bluelight shirts and display such signs. At the bigger festivals, there is little chance organisers would support the idea.

Being such a non g/g supported group, we can't even wear a sponsor's name at some events. Everything is money related, and such "advertising" is worth a fortune. Accordingly, it's usually bound to all kinds of restrictive conditions and sole rights - even if the other cause is a charity or a not for profit group. Then there's the image the promoters need to project. All very tricky stuff.

Fwiw though, in the days when pill reports and BL pill request threads were able to provide worthwhile and often accurate info, our group always took print copies of recent posts to help others inquiring about certain pills etc. These days the playing field is just too vast, and more often than not the pills described by punters are either previously unheard of, or availability limited to a small user group. Without a sanctioned form of lab testing, it's pretty much all guess work. The best we can do is encourage those with a broad knowledge of what's currently circulating to join the team.

In the past I've recommended a kind of HR badge, where good HR or science related discussions would be labeled. That way, those here primarily for such info could easily scan Aus DD for those threads. If this model was structured properly, it may even allow for extra social chat without necessarily chasing off those who struggle to find the signal amongst the noise.

the majority of the reason i dont use this much is cause i can't pm yet. And also i think most things i would post would be ignored because i dont have lots of posts, even though i think my knowledge of drugs in general is better than most. (i definately know the most in all of my friend circles combined)

^ Most posters on here won't ignore someone just because they are new, and those that do aren't worth your time anyway. :)

Why the want to PM? Once you get up to 50 posts you can do it.

That's actually a good idea. I wonder what it would take to get implemented?

ETA: I was thinking today, wouldn't it be cool to have a science thread here? A thread where people can discuss and ask questions about pharmacology and other sciences, recommend good books to read, that sort of thing. I just finished 'Selective Toxicity' by Adrian Albert today, excellent book by an Australian who used to lecture at University of Sydney and who did research on and created acridine antiseptics. I thought this part of his biography was funny:

The Organic Chemistry Department's technical laboratory was given over to the manufacture of proflavine under the direct supervision of Dr Konrad Gibian, an employee of a small but active chemical firm, Timbrol Ltd. Many kilograms were produced under very difficult conditions: all those associated with the make-shift plant (including Gibian and Albert) remained a bright yellow hue for several years afterwards and all paths in the vicinity fluoresced a brilliant green whenever it rained.

From here.
