The thing that has always bothered me about "pro gaming" is that you can't really even be sure that the people who are the best of the best are even competing.
It's such a minor sport or whatever that it doesn't really attract talent. For example, I played as a ringer in TF2 scrims for a bit and I was DESTROYING people. I played against the "top" clan as a ringer for some other clan and the people I was playing with kept complaining about server settings and shit as they got their asses kicked. So I just kind of went solo and was having no problem at all staying on even ground with the other "super good" clan that was winning all the cash at contests.
When I look at the the prizes and stuff it's just not worth it to me to even bother. I can make mid 6 figures selling virtual currency in MMOs and I don't even have to do any work because it's all automated after some initial programming.
So, I guess what I'm saying is.. pro gaming sucks until people get contracts like NFL players have because then it'll attract the TRUE talent.

yeah but I didn't like SSBM. the original had a lot less random factors going on which in my opinion, really impact the game play. and i haven't gotten into brawl because cordless controllers simply suck for response time. i need to get some gamecube controllers to play it properly.
me and the 4 people i played consistently with (thousands and thousands of games played) were insanely good at that game. seeing shit many moves in advance in slow motion was pretty intense.

I used to love watching high-level SSBM vids of Isai and gERM...haven't really gotten a chance to go pro, or maybe just too lazy. I'd love to play pro in SSBB, just gotta get the Tourney times and my fucking Wii...and a shitload of practice against humans.

Thats a bullshit cop out. Maybe not the absolute best person at any given time is not in every comp, but that is applicable to every sport and contest.
There is plenty of amazing players already without shit contracts.

I suppose what I meant is that is what has bothered me about gaming as a spectator sport or even competing in it myself. You're right there will be good players but honestly I've never watched a competitive gaming video and been like, "Wow, holy fucking shit! That guy is good!" The closest I've seen is Starcraft competitions.
Like I said I've played a ringer in multiple games in scrimmages against "the best" people. I've never found it anymore challenging than specific public servers where good players end up.

There are a LOT of people who have "professional" level talent but only a few of them actually take the time to join a clan, practice, join competitions, etc, etc. So that aspect of it seems like kind of a joke because SO MANY people are that good.
It's not like watching the Olympics where you know these people are like the best of the best and trained for years to be able to compete. When I watch a "professional" match in ANY FPS game I'm like.. whoop de doo, looks like an average night on a server that has a reputation for being hardcore except with more coordination cause everyone knows each other.
pro gamer is an oxymoron. fatal1ty aside, i haven't heard of any who make enough money to support themselves. a $50,000 payout is nothing when you have to split that with 4 other people. i'm guessing that's the reason most of these competitors are from scandinavian countries where it's so fucking cold and dark most of the time that it's actually preferable to come home and shoot people online for 5 hours after an 8 hour work shift

yeah its hard to make a living, but most atheliets get exploited at the begining of a pro sport going big (look at the NHL, back in the day people played cause they loved hockey, they were payed shit).
When pro players play for big coin its a serious comp. people spend months stuck in a house playing the same game over and over until they have perfected their killcraft.
If you have a chance to visit a major lan with comp play (thousands of people), like Dreamhost (or whatever that retarded big one in northern europe is) or QuakeCon, or the like, you can walk around and see the pub players having fun, you can watch the comp players trying to go pro, and on the stage for the finals you will see pro players, who fucking own.
think how many people are max level on that game?

but, for example, with COD4, and even 5, there are tens of thousands of people at max level...dont mean shit, except that you play a shitload of games,lol

I started off as a lower level foot soldier, riegning terror around the Galaga machine when I was 10 or 11. By the time I turned 15 I held top position at the The Who's Tommy pinball machine where I would collect coins, cigarettes and free burgers and chips as pretection money.
But the Dance Machine craze dragged all the kids to the shopping centre arcade shop, reducing my empire to a mere shadow of it's glory. If it wasn't for the love of a good women I would be just anouther Silent Bob outside the front of 7-11....

leveling in halo is different than leveling in CoD games. you actually lose levels in halo when you lose games.
