any news on the new oxycontin?

I know a while back perdue was trying to come up with a way were if you crush,break,chew,etc. oxycotin,it will somehow destroy or eliminate the oxycodone within.Has anyone ever hear of this? My pharmacist said the nickname is the smart pill.
 
There is a patent for timed-release drugs- I'm not sure if Purdue is using it, but it's going to be nasty. It sound like they have balls or beads of the drug and naltrexone or naloxone. If taken normally, only a tiny amount of the antagonist is released. If crushed, a massive dose is released. The only way this would work is if the beads looked identical but were actually different polymers. It's very possible, I just am not sure which company is using the technology.

The above measures will result in people taking HIGHER doses, experiencing longer highs, and experiencing more addiction/accidental overdoses.

Everyone knows the drug companies don't give 2 shits if their pills get abused, as long as they are paid for. Its just a matter of how much pressure they must receive from the FDA and gov. agencies about the abuse potential.
 
Wow. That would suck and I would stop using. Oh well, better enjoy these 80's while I can!!

Whilst you're right to be cynical about pharmaceutical companies reasons for developing such a pill, I think to say that it will cause more addiction and harm is totally incorrect.
 
Harm I don't know but I think more addiction seems like a logical progression. If you have to eat the oxycontin and have it last for 8+ hours instead of the 4 hours or so it lasts snorting it will be harder to cease using. If you bang heroin for two months it will be harder to quit than if you bang it for one month.
 
But the new oxy user (now) would need to snort a 20 and what fun and excitement he would have breaking up the pill and rolling up a bill, needing no more than $10 to have sweet bliss.

The oxy user of a future featuring 'smart drug' would have to swallow $20 of a 40. He'd get a longer high, but less of a ritual and for a new user maybe not as much of a noticeable effect, unless they took enough, but with 20, 40, 80 pills; enough could easily be too much for a new person eager to get high throwing down another 40.
 
True you would lose the ritual of snorting and get a less extreme buzz. Although if it becomes harder for the average person to abuse because it is more difficult to break the time release you might see black market prices go down.

I guess it is kind of hard to speculate about all this until it actually comes out, if it ever comes out.

The price is related to supply and demand. If it becomes harder to abuse, demand will drop, and so will prices. If its still abusable, it won't simply drop because its harder for the average person to do it.

Sure it will. The average person will switch to something easier to abuse, from hydro to heroin, and a drop in demand will follow.
 
In regards to oxy and the proposed measurers, I think the snorters will just change their moa first. They'll do that before they switch to something with apap and a low amount of the seeked after ingredient. As for heroin, there's still a stigma around it and its not easily available in a lot of places.

But you're right there probably will be a drop. Probably not significant though. Take the generic oc's for example. They're not much cheaper, if at all, than the Purdue's or abg's. But, this example is inherently different than the above.
 
no matter what they do to make the pill non-abusable, people are going to find a way around it. Opiate users arent just gonna be like "oh, these pills are non-abusable now, ill just quit." No, they will find a way to make it abusable, and that will result in some people doing some dangerous things, which is why i think Purdue should just leave it alone.

I remember reading something similar. It's naloxone mixed with opiates in a pill. Taken sublingually and and negligable amounts of naloxone is absorbed, but try to slam it, and you wont feel shit. Not sure about beads tho.

I don't really see the difference in those two scenarios.

Not harm reduction, people will be trying to shoot the new pills (because people are fucking stupid) and runing their veins much more than they do now.
 
If the beads were different like the narcan was in one color and the oxy was in another I'd just seperate them and do the oxy. They'd have to make it [part of the same pill
 
I don't get it...One day they are talking about making OXY unslammable, then the next drugs such as OPANA and FENTORA are being released - which are definitly more dangerous and just as easily abusable as OXY is now.
