All men play on 10 (METAL THREAD 3.0)

dudes have any of you seen vital remains play live lately? i saw them last month and when they were settin up there was this young kid fuckin around with the drums, i was wondering what the hell he was doing until the band comes on stage and this boy starts beating the livin shit outta these drums with crazy precision and power... apparently the guys in vital remains took on this kid to be their new drummer, and this child is 17 years old. like im watchin these fairly aged metal vets throwin down brutal death metal and then theres this fuckin high school kid holdin it all down... crazy. their new guitarist is young as well. awesome musicians tho, good show.

^ Yeah, I caught them a few months back, terrible. Mayhem really needs to break up, wayyyy past their prime.
speaking of, any fans of Sleep here? you can't do drugs and like metal without listening to sleep!

^Hmm, I dunno- I think Atillas voice is an aqcired taste, which I aqcuired many moons back so....but the latest album just sounds utterly shit- though Fenriz of Darkrthone claims it to be one of the best BM albums ever....dunno about that.

I have to reitierate how much Blooddrunk- Children of Bodom absoutely sucks. Very disappointing.

Got to meet black sabbath at Vintage Vinyl in new jersey this weekend. I feel really bad for RJ Dio.

OVERKILL | Immortalis

Best Overkill release since W.F.O. in my opinion. Ive only listened to it through 3 times but damn this cd is good. Def makes up for the last (crappy) release. Great quality thrash, if ur an OK fan you must have this. Even a guest appearance from that singer dude from Lamb of God.

ive never listened to any of sleeps music, but if u liken them to sabbath im gonna start hunting on youtube

Sleep are awesome, Dopesmoker is a great record, if not utterly weird and really long- 1 song....Electric Wizard are the band most similar to Black Sabbath of any band I've heard, though somehow they also don't sound like Sabbath 8o - they are awesome, their latest album Witchcult Today isn't great, but Dopethrone and Come My Fanatics are. Other good bands in that vein are older Orange Goblin, Goatsnake, some Kyuss, Grand Magus.....I prefer the doomy apocalyptic feeling then the stoner feeling, but it all works. You might also like Candlemass D_W, their the originators of the slow doom-metal sound (besides Black Sabbath.....)

carcass reunion tour anyone? got my tix yesterday for the montreal show. suffo opening. booyakasha

kyuss is awsome.check out acid witch and saint vitus too

^Your don't mean Burning Witch do you? They are great- demented but great. Or were great. I like Sunn 0))), Boris, Earth, some of the other droney groups that Burning Witch descended into.

Anyway, Blind Gaurdian rule.

Dissection is one of my favorites.

Anyone like funeral doom? I love that style, bands like:

Esoteric
Evoken
Shape of Despair
Skepticism
Torture Wheel
Until Death Overtakes Me

Esoteric is a great (IMO) metal band that is not well known. I guess I'd call their music psychedelic doom/funeral doom. Give them a try, if you are into that kind of music.

Here are a couple of their songs you can listen to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2VnIGfwzL0 - Allegiance Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9QuLh6Rbb4&feature=related - Allegiance Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANry2j1U4C8&feature=related - Circle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9u6YnVStAA&feature=related Eradification Of Thorns (Live)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8NpORhPynE&NR=1 - The Blood of the Eyes (Live)

The sound quality is not very good on some of those.

Here are some songs by Skepticism:

^I find the funeral doom stuff REALLY REALLY boring....Shape of Despair are okay, and Thergothon, but in general it bores me badly. Bad production, bad music, bad drum machines, bad singing...though I like the band Funeral, though I'm not sure if they exist anymore.

One funeral doom band that are OK are Fungoid Stream, except the music is boring as all hell...I much prefer bluesy psychedelic doom stuff myself. I "thought" I liked a few other funeral bands, Night Must Fall, The Funeral Orchestra...but I really don't, though the latter have a good song called "Slow Shall Be Thw Whole of The Law". If the production was better and the songs more dynamic, I could see it being a good genre. I like some black ambient/doom, like Xasthur and Striborg though, but very rarely...

funny, i was listening to evoken today for the first time in like a hundred years. something people dont think about is how hard it is to realistically play that music in a band... like do you have any idea how hard it is to stay on the beat at the tempo?

skepticism is kickass, stormcrowfleet is a really unique record. esoteric is scary. shape of despair is awesome and makes incredible music to be incredibly high to.

^Its not that hard to play as a band- if they are wathcing each other, they know when they will strike the chords and drums etc (also quite easy ith a drum machine). Anyway, it is more played at half tempo then at slow BPM.... Its just too samey I think.
