All men play on 10 (METAL THREAD 3.0)

this shit sounds terrible, and it sounds like some jackass 14 year old with a laptop an M-box and some pro-tools recorded it.

get real, son. just because it's noisy and chaotic doesn't mean it's brutal or technical.

I mean, shit, do you even play anything?

How is it noisy and chaotic? Just because it doesn't follow the I-IV-V cycle you're so used to, doesn't make it 'noisy'. Break it down into sections and explain it to me how you think it is. The production is excellent, much better than any other black metal album put out in the last 7 years (ps yr dead wrong about how it was recorded).

Oh and I do play an instrument. I've been playing guitar for 8 years, classically trained in fact.
Sorry man, we must be from different worlds. That is some average, monotonous black metal with some death influence. Totally forgettable.
Please recommend to me O wise one of something that is black metal with death influence that is totally memorable.

Hmm..

I haven't heard those bands and I can't download and I can't download them, but I'm gonna side with kultron :)

That isn't saying much. All black metal is recorded like shit. And if it isn't, black metal "purists" cry like little babies about how the stuff isn't "authentic."

This statement just proves your ignorance of metal. There are countless of well produced black metal albums, you obviously are very limited in your scope of metal and ignorant of countless great albums, which are universally considered classic by the black metal community (Enslaved's "Vikingligr Veldi" and Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" are just two). Just admit you're a poser and we can end this silly argument :).

I wasn't referring to the "big" black metal bands.

any1 familiar with a band called something like Jotmundspor?

i was watching my digital cable music channel(metal) and they played a song by the aformentioned band, who are apparently from Norway.

i normally don't like black metal, assuming that's the sub-genre they fall into.....but i really liked what i was hearing.

The new Arch Enemy is pretty good. I think I like it more than their last two releases. More memorable guitar riffs.

Arch Enemy - Rise of the Tyrant (yeah, I realize that pic is mad blurry) :)

Other new heavy stuff I picked up (aka downloaded):

new Between the Buried and Me
new High on Fire
new Himsa
new Horse the Band
new Iced Earth
new Bring Me the Horizon
new Every Time I Die

sheeeit...I have some listening to get to!

As a pretty big Fear Factory fan back in the day, I was interested to hear former FF guitarist Dino's new band, Divine Heresy. I completely forgot about the project until I recently heard a pretty brutal song on Headbanger's Ball (of all places) and realized that the band I was hearing was Divine Heresy. I have yet to listen to the whole album yet, but if it mostly sounds like what I heard, I should be a pretty happy fella.

If anyone is interested:

so, i watched headbangers ball last night.

i thought to myself "damn, about 1/2 of these bands suck......it's like the emo kids decided to crossover to the metal scene".

also, they played one video twice...like 20 minutes apart, wtf is up with that?

i really only liked 2 video's. one by a band called 'everytime i die'. the other by a band called 'kylesa'.

i'm really not liking the state of metal right now.

alot of the songs followed this formula-

1. really heavy verse.
2. really pop-ish & melodic chorus.
3. really heavy verse.
4. really pop-ish & melodic chorus.

wtf is up with all these bands and their weak ass chorus'? they're like "hey guys....this is the part of the song where we need to get all melodic".

lame.

Yeah they do play some crap on the show. And unfortunately the formula you speak of is used by FAR too many shitty "metalcore" type bands. They try to appeal to too many groups of people.

I also noticed that they played that Despised Icon song twice. I thought they were replaying the show back to back, but then realized they just fucked up.

Try digging a little deeper than Headbangers Ball. There's some amazing stuff happening in metal at the moment that doesn't get the exposure it deserves. Check out some of the bands/labels mentioned in this thread and go from there. Happy hunting.

Yeah, Headbanger's Ball is just the tip of the iceberg. While I do think it's great that the show is back on and that some real heavy music is played on MTV, they do tend to throw in some garbage as well.
