Next on fox news at 11

Today in amsterdam a riot erupted when a Global forum meetup ran out of weed.

Future quote of random bl'er " man it was horrible! First we ran out of weed, and then... Some kid got maced and fuck man is that a giant beer bong over there..."

Upon internet advice, the riot police began to call out "PLUR dude. PLUR" to the rioters. This only seemed to amplify the violence.

In a last ditch effort to quell the crowd the UN air dropped 1 metric ton of weed... more after these words from our sponsors...

And here's our report by our eye in the sky, reporter Fred Lollercopter:

FL- Fred here, reporting from directly above the situation. *cough* Well, the rioters have *cough* certainly calmed down rather quickly once that metric tonne *cough cough* of weed was lowered. Only now the violence has been *cough* replaced with a massive chimney of greenish smoke. No wait, now it's pink. Far out this is strange. The smoke seems to be pulsating and changing colours. What's that? You want a kiss?! Come here baby....*sounds of helicopter door opening and the engine gets louder*

oh man what a perfect thread for right now. Im currently on a BL meetup spree. check my journal and gallery later for cool shit

and Im so down for this of course. first of all by 2009 ill have a sweet job, and the funds. well atleast for the funds if I dont have a sweet job. I'll just be more shistey with my drugs ;)

but i think san fran could work, although i know the international fears. It would shitty if we were in iran by then and the BL set in america will face possible drafts. thats a little out of the box, nobodies buying their plane tickets over a year in advance....

....so i would go to amsterdam. umm ibiza is a like 120 euro round trip flight, srsly planes go in and out. we can travel to europe, barcelona, paris, london, etc and then catch planes tranes and automobiles to amesterdam. now i guess summers in amsterdam the big thing is the cannibus cup?

and i just wanna say, and i know Ive been overly plurry from the BLer generosity the last 2 weeks, but i went out and travelled and made it point to see BLers. now starscape had a lot to do with it, its a perfect opportunity to see people you have known online for years and then might get to meet only once. some fall off while new ones crop up

just think about it, in 3 years we will have people we dont know now, but could very well be mods of major forums. i recently went on a 6-month bluelight hiatus and a lot of people joined. srsly, by '09 BL might just explode

oh and i nominate colin for orgnanizer although we'll probably need about 10.

One note of caution. If we're going to do this, I DO NOT think that details should be discussed in a public forum. Think Florida, think BR2 :(

What's more (and here I'm getting even more paranoid) - maybe the exact details of the event should be kept secret from all but a few (I'm thinking of the exact location of the venue, etc) until people actually arrive in the city. e.g. get to the city, meet up at a nuetral place (hotel?) then get details of the party. This avoids the risk that someone shady, or who develops a grudge against one of us, might n*a*r*c us out. (I'm not paranoid, honest ;)).

@Atlas: I'm touched. We WILL meet up, even if this doesn't happen.

For location: I'm liking Amsterdam, though it's a long way for the Americans to go. But there's no perfect venue. The West Coast of the US would cost me and the Aussies around US$1200, and would be expensive for the Europeans. East Coast of the US could be a good option (not TOO far for the Europeans), but the drug laws are a turn off.

I'm also liking the idea of doing something say the weekend before Glastonbury, and then those of us who want to can go on to Glastonbury afterwards.

For the event itself: I'm liking the idea of the event being about US - our people DJing, not hiring someone else to do it....

indeed. there would have to be some considerations taken into account. my preferred method is to go by numbers - they won't arrest 2,000 people, will they? ;)

in all seriousness, we will have to think about safety-related stuff like that. but then again if it's at a festival there will easily be 100 non-bluelight people fucked up on drugs for every 1 bluelight person who *might* once have smoked a doob.

originally my idea was to sort out a venue and do a night ourselves. if it was to be in the UK, for example, i can sort out a venue to hold anything from 20 to 2000 people. i'm sure similar provisions could be made in other parts of the world, but i don't know anything about that. the only thing i want responsibility for is arranging the musical lineup for the 'lectronic stage :)

I just tried booking a round trip flight from Chicago to Amsterdam on travelocity for next March (you can only book 330 days in advance) and the tickets were roughly $720-800 US. Any flight you book is going to be cheaper the earlier it gets booked, but it seems pretty hard to estimate what flights are going to cost in 2009.
That's because the annual deals are not in effect yet for next year. Beginning in January (for yeach year), you should be able to get the same booked for $300-400 US, approaching $600 in October. Best way to book is 30-180 days in advance.

For this many people going, I think there needs to be a designated daily meet spot and time in a popular public square or something of the sort, with volunteers going to "gather" newly arriving groups for each day we're there. Details to be arranged in private forums, of course.

For music events in Amsterdam (or close to it), there is Dance Valley in July.

I think that if this was to work a seperate private forum should be set up where only approved bluelighters have access and therefore if new people join in the coming three years they can be slowly added to the forum as is safe for it to be done.

The new private forum can be split up into many different forums e.g. regional ones like there is on bluelight and there can then be transport details shared from those who are in those regions and going to come so people can travel together and even maybe get bulk travelling discounts from airlines (I know some airlines do discount if a certain amount of people travel on the same plane). Other forums could be there to suggest locations and things to do and another forum can provide information on hotels and accomodation, another with a place for DJ's etc to post that they want to play.

I live in Amsterdam and could collect a lot of information for people as I also DJ and although I have not lived here long, I am slowly getting into what I would say is a tight knit scene where I could probably get us a venue, depending on how many people were coming (although I am pretty sure that the venue would not be able to be booked for a few years as this is 3 years away lol). I can also suggest places for accomodation e.g. each group of people travelling together from one region could be given a certain hotel again though I think booking that far in advance is not entirely possible.

Anyway I am willing to help out and even if I am not in Amsterdam in 2009, I will probably still be somewhere near here and still be able to arrange stuff.

If this idea is to go ahead I think a private forum needs to be set up now or to make it a bit more possible I would suggest 2009 however being the 10 year anniversary is a nice idea but perhaps too far away. I can imagine there still being many people that have been here for a few years already still here but it just seems so far away to start arranging!

Mashie, I like the idea.

I also think you should have to be individually approved to post in that specific meetup forum.

:D

View and post.

It should be completely locked except to the approved users.

It could be done on this site too.

We have empty forum slots that could be invisible.
A la The Hot Tub and The Taco Forum back in the day.
