2004 Mushroom season( Victoria)

yep, stems are full of goodness :D

Damn shame I got such a busy week, everyone will rape my spots over the weekend and my monday hunt will be pretty unsuccessfull I reckon :(

We have this amazing hippie stoner guy painting our investment property at the moment. I say amazing because he is really one of the most outstandingly nice, happy and intruigingly (?) unique people I have ever met.

I told him I was looking Mushrooms this season and he's going to hook me up with a spot he's been going to for years. I can't wait!

Oh, and Miss Slingshot are you referring to getting up so early to beat other hunters to the spot, or is it better to do so for other reasons?

Can someone post a pic of of Gallerina and a psub and explain the difference between the two? The P subs bruise blue, ok, but I thought p subs had brown gills, some of the ones posted here have been white. What colour is th Galerena gills? They are both woodchip loving? Does that mean general undergrowth kinda environment you mind in the bush, ie twigs, leaves bark?
I wish I had a experience shroomer to cum with but I guess I will just have to sus it out on my own......if it ever fucking rains here in syd that is.

Got my biggest haul so far today; 206 and most of them were big fatties with caps around 5-7cm diameter but my cameras battery AND the spare I brought were both flat :(

yeah I always wonder if anyone else uses my patches, not that I care. If they are it seems they can suport both of us.

Munted - Yeah I go hunting so early in an attempt to beat the other hunters, but mainly because I start work at 8:30am which only really leaves the weekend available for mushie missions. Weekend expeditions have to date, left me pissed off and mushroom-less.:\
(Getting changed from trackies to a suit in the car is somewhat interesting though!).

I'm almost tempted to leave a note for the fuckers who keep picking mushies that are quite literally the size of pinheads :X Yesterday morning there were dozens of babies, the biggest no more than 7mm across, this morning nothing :(

Another way I've found of confirming p. subs (especially in low light conditions ;) is their smell. P. subs smell distinctivly like bran. I would never use this as a sole identifying characteristic, but its helped me out on a few occasions when I've come across some unbelievably close lookalikes.

Woohoo! Handing in research design in a few hours. Looking forward to a refreshing walk in the hills 2mos for what will be my first real expedition of the season.

mongman

Dear jesus is that the magic mushrooms that grow in Austrailia???
They dont look ANYTHING like the ones we pick in Ireland.

The ones we pick in Ireland are tiny, and sort of the same colour but they have like a big Nipple on the top off them that is white in colour!

Have any of you's ever seen the ones im on about???

They seem to sprout at night and are dead by the morning
and they then sprout again the next night.

And there be's thousands of them in 1 field.

But i have NEVER seem magic mushrooms that size before
in my life!!!
Has anyone ever seen the ones that im talking about?

Well there are hundreds of species of hallucinogenic mushrooms, Victoria is almost solely inhabited by Psilocybe Subaeruginosa.

Just so you know they are still rather small most of the time.

I think the mushrooms that are most prevalent in Ireland are Psilocybe Semilanceata (sp?) (also known as liberty caps). They grow in much larger numbers than P.Subaeruginosa, but are comparatively less potent than P.Subs. Also their preferred growth medium (i think) is grass, whereas P.Subs grow in wood mulch.

They are said to grow in Victoria, but only very rarely and in very specific locations.

An ethnobotonist friend told me :)

ermmmmmm i think that copalandia cyanescens are a bit stronger :)

But yeh i'm really not sure cos my focus of research has just been aus mushrooms :D

mushrooms, especially in the wild have hugely varying potencies... that said, psilocybe subaeruginosa (as with all woodloving psilocybes) is rated as one of the most potent magic mushrooms in the world.

copelandia cyanescens are often close to, or as potent, however tend to lose plenty of their potency if handled incorrectly.

most would agree that sub's are around about twice the potency, or more, of your average cubensis - that's 1-2 dried grams providing a fairly strong trip!

also - small, more juvenile specimens of woodloving psilocybes tend to be much more potent than fully grown mature specimens. at some point in their growth, psilocin/psilocybin production slows down. so 1 dried gram of small specimens is most likely going to get you tripping a hell of alot harder than 1 dried gram of larger specimens.

Yes the do grow in grass fields in Ireland.

And if you take 2 big steps in a field in Ireland, you walk over about 100 shrooms!!!

There really that many!
