2004 Mushroom season( Victoria)

Another way I've heard of is to do spore prints on rice paper or some other paper that disintergrates/ composes really quickly. Rip up the paper towel into little bits, distribute the pieces of paper and water (bringing a biggish water bottle shouldn't make it too hard).

really, its pointless to spread spores in your current patch. if the mycelium ends up dying off after a few years, it has nothing to do with people picking the mushrooms too early or whatnot. it's more likely that the substrate has been drained of all its nutrients from past flushes.

however you can successfully take spores to a new spot and dump them there... the easiest way is probably to take spore prints of the mushies u pick, and either rip up the bits of paper and scatter, or add them to water and spray the water in a new area.

I use paper towel to take spore prints then I tear it up into small pieces and put it in a 4 litre bottle of water. I then take it to a place than I have a strong feeling could suport sub growth and spread it everywhere. The paper towel is bio-degradable and inconspicuous so there is little trash left around.

Another option I have considered recently is as follows:
You know those P. Subs. patches that have loose hunks of woodchip full of mycelium just lying on top of the ground (due to animals or agressive picking tecniques). Well you take a few of these and mix them into mulch in other areas. Im yet to have results with this but only started doing it this year.

i did the colonised woodchip transfer thing last year...

has just started raining over nsw today, so fingers crossed my patches actually fruit %)

Question;

My favoured mushroom patch, and from what I hear, many of yours as well, are located in suburban areas and there are always many other people around while I am doing my thang.

What's the worst that can happen if some residents don't approve, (most really don't mind) and call the pigs? Or worse, you actually get caught by the pigs?

This happened to anyone?

I've gotta say the local residents I've come across are really great! They either say nothing, or ask if I've had any luck. One old guy was telling me heaps of stories about how him and his wife made mushroom vodka and were listening to Frank Zappa. His wife didn't have the best time and now whenever she hears the particular song she spews. I love that guy!

Back to question - what are possible consequences?

You'll be done for possesion of a class A drug - Hallucinogenic, no medical properties... This = big trouble :(
Correct me if I'm wrong please. But I'm pretty sure It's a lot of trouble.

I've only had a security guard at my university ask what i was up to. I was wandering through the garden at the time, and my mate, who was wrapped up in his blanket after going out on pills the night before, replied "Playing in the garden, It's GREAT!!!!"
He proceeded to ask us if we went to uni etc. (as it was closed this day) and we thought we'd best leave as it would be obvious to the other guards that there was a kid in a blanket and another with his name on his back being 'dodgy'.

I usually plan to say 'er.. um.. I'm a biology student.. and am.. er... looking for speicimens of (rattle of scientific names here).

Isn't this what we want? Yippee! =D I am pumped considering my (somewhat poor and I suspect over searched) areas are quite dry at the moment. . .

Oh by the way, last night I ate those little ones I found that you helped me ID guys. i didn't die! :) Mild effects, felt a little cold, colours looked brighter, patterns seemed screamingly apparent however they weren't moving and I was more than a little happy, laughing etc. Will need to find some more to get it going properly.

the cops stopped one of my mates before (he was looking in woodchip beds next to the pakenham line) and he said he was a bio student and they accepted this excuse.. this isnt to say they accept it everytime however

Just as a side note - Around the world in a tea daze - Shpongle, on mushrooms will take you on an INTENSE emotional journey. I recommend this to ANYONE!

Yep its raining again ppl... If someone has a photo of some dry subs could you plz upload it somewhere im trying to dry some out fro the first time and theyve shriveled up a little plus the gills have gone real dark.. I can still bend the stems without snaping them so im gona give them another 24 hours in front of the fan..

You won't get them cracker dry using just a fan.

I fan em for about 24 hours then into a tuppeware dish with Calcium Chloride (Dampsorb) for 2-3 days = cracker dry.

This is the only pic I can give:
