2004 Mushroom season( Victoria)

On my last hunt I found some pretty big white mushrooms that had almost fluro blue stains on them. Have no idea what they were and I didn't have my camera so couldn't get a pic but if I see them again i'll post pics. Don't think it was active..

I found a number of boletes growing in my newest sub patch, there are boletes that bruise blue, but VERY quickly. I didn't have time to have a proper look as the spot is somewhat explosed to the public. But first glance I mistook them for subs, only on closer inspection was it obvious they weren't. The caps were extremely soft, sorta mooshy, and they had sponge instead of gills. Next time i'm there i'll look to see if they are blue staining.

First Hunt. . .

Hey guys. . .check this out. . .i think I found Subs. . .They bruised really blue after about an hour, I've attached a pic.

A positive ID, or even any help would be great. . .

I found some others and picked them anyway thinking maybe somebody here would either say "those are the ones you idiot!" or "don't eat that you wanker!". . .I'll post that next. . .

how long can you store p-subs for?
and is there a special way to store them?
thanx..

There's heaps of information you could be looking for if you used the search tools, there's information all over this site. :)

munted: the second photo contains no active mushrooms throw them away.

As for the first photo congratulations =)

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!

I found 'em! I found 'em! I found 'em!!!!! =D Seriously so damn happy right now. . .Thanks Mongman!

Thing is, that's all I found. . .I mean I didn't see hardly any at all. . .Searched quite a bit too. People were saying you find 'em in decomposing pine needles, should i be loking in that kinda habitat more?

that is one of many habitats, that can be found on a variety of substrates however I find the old "mulch" the best option. You found some close look alikes there in the second photo so be VERY carefull when you pick more. Dont get overly confident or anything ( I have to keep reminding myself of that to).

also two of the 3 in your photo are fairly young. If you can let them grow older so that they drop "seeds" allowing your patch to survive until next year and so on.

Pretty subs in that first pic Munted

again. . .

Not too sure about these ones. . .

They haven't bruised blue yet, except for that big mother up the back. . .about to spore print, but what do you guys reckon? Two posts and two pics again. . .

Sorry for being a post whore, but I'd rather be safe than vomiting! you understand :)

I'll let others see what they think. They just look way too orange/brown
