2004 Mushroom season( Victoria)

I checked a couple of the one's growing at the outlaws (from grass) and they didn't stain blue.

I didn't bother checking them all - Is it possible that there would be subs and the poison lookalikes in the same patch?

yes, I plan on taking a photo of just that situation in the near future as I know a place it is occuring. I have been picking P. Sub.s for 4 years and it tricked me for a minuit or two.

just a friendly warning

While hunting yesterday i came across lots of Stropharia Aunticia that looked so much like subs it wasn't funny.

Often the mature ones can not looks as red but closer to the sub colour and their growth pattern (ie the shapes at times of their growth) is pretty much identical to subs.

Also when they are starting to rot a bit it can actually look like they are bruising a bluey/green on the cap, and i'd hate an inexperienced shroomer to see that as enough proof that it is a sub.

Just remember if your not sure, do a spore print, and make sure it is clearly purple before eating (and obviously it is bruising and looks like a sub) :)

peace

Go me!!

This isn't the best quality photo but you get the idea -

nice one mothershaboo! :D

that 3rd pic of yours reminds me (looks like) the first ever sub i found, it was growing under some ferns on eucalyptus mulch in a natural bush area! was the only sub i've ever found in the sydney metro area, although im sure they grow in some areas (just not as abundantly as in victoria).

nice nice nice. I should get some batteries for my cammera. So many find and no photos!! Tomorrow I will find mushrooms and post pictures its a promise!!!

^^ No, they are part of the environment and eco-system too. Just because they are poisonous doesn't mean they should be wiped out.

/\ Agreed... actually if anything i'd like to think that people would create some kind of respect for mushrooms in general in their hunting, not just the magic ones :)

Just a word of warning mothershabooboo, but that last picture looks like maggots have started to eat your shroomy.

Dont put that one with you other good ones as the maggots like to spread. Make sure you split it apart and check before you eat it.

God im missing my mushy hunts. Guess ill just have to wait till i get to Amsterdam on Moday... =D

They have an astronomical tollerance for a day or two afterwards. You need to give it a few days between trips, i find.

One experiance with this was last year I tripped, then the next day I just ate my way through ~8 grams of p. subs.... normally that would send you so far away you'd think you weren't coming back anytime soon.... I just felt kinda weird and nothing really happened at all.

Yes mushrooms have a massive tolerance effect. Redosing is not really useful, and as Psychadelic_Paisly said, you won't really be able to trip for a few days afterwards. I've even found that sometimes i'll have trouble tripping on LSD for a day or so after a Mushroom trip.

Yo, looking in the *ranges* in outer eastern suburbs, looking for subs, will I find another deadly species that stains blue? Or is that the definite signifier of a P.Sub?

Please don't say yes if you know of another species that stains blue but it only grows in South America or something. . .ya know?

staining blue is not a deffinative ID for P.Subs. I have not encountered fungi that stains blue but is not an active varity. However they do exist according to reports from other australian hunters.
