Joint Rolling - European vs. American Methods

I live in america. Lemme say, when you have weed to spare a fat joint is awesome although i prefer a good bowl instead. Usually my 'joints' are just cigs filled with bud and a cut filter. (for driving)

Has to be said that smoking a bowl tends to save a huge amount of weed. But the issue is that you cant smoke a bowl anywhere but in privacy. In the UK you can pretty much blaze a spliff walking down the road (not in central london tho). suburbs etc.

For a long time I didn't even know there were people who nót use a tip / roach; especially since here most people use tip material you can buy in the coffeeshop, whenever I was in the UK I'd use the pack of rizla first, and then train tickets and anything else with the right texture of paper, I can even use printing paper to make roaches from, pretty much anything works (I do that here too if I run out of actual tip, then anything that is paper or thin cardbord works fine).

When I was on a festival at some point we actually ran out of paper and cardbord and smoked the joints without any roach for a few days, actually wasn't too bad (still rolled them with tobacco though; which I have to do since I smoke hash most of the time, and even with weed I dislike pure, too harsh to smoke pleasantly).

I've never seen an american joint or seen an american person role a joint, but it sounds odd to me, pure with no tip, won't you get weed in your mouth doing that?

I only read the material on the first two pages, so forgive me if something similar to what I say has already been brought up.
The reason I see for Americans rolling without a roach and Europeans with one is just the sheer volume of cannabis used by each respective party. Americans generally roll them with straight cannabis, while Europeans roll using a mix. So the American isn't concerned with getting every last toke because the overall amount used is more than enough to catch a substantial buzz. It basically comes down to the fact us Americans do everything in excess.

lol screw joints, it's literally the most wasteful way of consuming your herb. also, blunt rolling is way more sophisticated than joint rolling. i'm not sure there are too many different methods of rolling a joint. it's a single thin sheet of fucking paper for crying out loud. i'm not even that much of a fan of blunts either. i mean i love em, but i prefer to be as sparingly as possible with my shit. if i have an abundance, i'll roll away. but if i don't, it's lightbulb or pipe/bong for me.

only thing joints are good for is for spliffs. mixing tobacco into a blunt isn't a good idea since the material you're rolling with already consists of tobacco ingredients.

I've heard people say that about finding tobacco+weed smoother, which is weird. I've always found spliffs to be much harsher then joints, the added tobacco tends to bother my lungs. Still enjoy a spliff every now and then, and I smoke 2-3 cigarettes weekly so it's not that I don't like tobacco, but inhaling it deeply and holding it in hurts me way more then herb. Different strokes for different folks.

You sometimes get a bit of weed in your mouth but that doesn't bother me, I kinda like it. But usually you don't get weed in your mouth if your joints are tight.

I usually prefer smoking without a roach, it's hard to say why, I just like it better.

I mean idealy I'll smoke king size paper with store bought tip in a rolling machine.

Smoothest smoke imaginable, perfect burning and just the premier smoking experience.

Without the tip is okay to but its just awkward because I don't enjoy smoking roach weed but i have a hard time just tossing out what amounts to a gram of resinated kush.

I guess for me the importance lies with the papers and machine. If im hand rolling i usually go with the european cone shape to help increase airflow and add an extra kick to the joint.

I find hash spliffs tend to be much harsher on the lungs than weed spliffs. Not quite sure why tho. In general I would agree smoking straight weed is much smoother, but overall it doesn burn the best. A backrolled spliff with tobacco and weed smokes the best in my opinion.

@ azgaza. lol about the train tickets for roach, I do that the whole time, in fact in my opinion they work better than roaching off a rizla pack.

i dont know how to roll my own J but my friends roll up for me and so far the best roll ive seen by two on my friends is the cone i think those hit a lil nice and its not to tight

I think roaching is better because you can smoke it right down to the butt, meaning you lose no weed, unless you roll with tobacco and no roach and leave the bottom weed free. Rolling machines are the way to go, perfect bettys every time

Anyone ever roll a "snake in the grass"?

Take some bubble hash roll it between your finger until you get a snake the size of pencil lead then throw that in the middle of your spliff.

I've only seen this in Cali and the Dam.

haha. yes my friend rolled that out of some home made hash. burns proper funny tho.

Hash burns much better if you break it up properly rather than rolling it into sausages IME.

I've only ever seen that with 'squidgy black' which is a shady form of hash, dead soft and malleable, you can't break it up properly so end up rolling it into sausages. It was shit.

But I am from the UK, noorious for low quality hash, the only good hash i've ever had I made myself. Not saying it ain't out here, but it's certainly less common than in america.

Quoted for extreme truthiness. I've rolled "snakes in the grass" and while they are kinda fun in a way, I usually just break the hash up into fine bits and mix it into the herb, even with sticky dark hash well suited to that kind of thing.

joint rolling styles/techniques from across the world

just curious what some different rolling techniques are from around the world. i'm american but i lived in england for a year so i've noticed some rolling styles that are different in different countries:

1. the dutch seem to roll inside out (where you roll with the glue on the inside and tear off the excess paper) a lot of the time
2. americans roll without a roach/tip/filter/whatever you like to call it more often
3. europeans roll with tobacco whereas americans tend to roll pure
4. i've met europeans (germans and russians mostly) who mix tobacco with weed when they smoke bongs

any other rolling styles you've come across?

I like to roll my blunts inside out. I haven't came across any other styles than you mentioned but have tried them all. Definitely not a fan of cannabis mixed with tobacco.

Weed & tobacco is pretty much the norm in my area of merry old england, theres the occasional guy who smokes it pure. Usually accompanied by an elitist "i'm better than you" attitude.

Biggest tip for someone reading this who is struggling to roll a joint.

Tuck the roach into the rizzla,

I couldnt actually roll until i see this on youtube and now i can roll :)

^Tricky at first but when it's mastered, you don't need to worry about getting the right sized roach for your joint, and the roach gives the paper some stability when rolling.

Here in Canada we usually roll tobacco into our joints, but then again we are part of the Commonwealth :P. I occasionally put some in with my bong packs as well, but I've never met anyone else who does this.

tobacco inside a joint allows for less "canoeing" and causes the j to burn slower. usually i'll add in a little tobacco from a cig inside the joint for these reasons, but otherwise i don't smoke joints that often. doobies and blunts are fun to smoke once in a while, but i stick to glass most of the time....
