Joint Rolling - European vs. American Methods

A lot of joints I've seen Americans roll and mega fat and the same width the entire length along and usually a single skin. Whereas in England I never see anyone do this, we always roll joints in a cone shape, starting thin and getting thicker, usually using a kingsized skin.

What is the reason for this?
Or are you 'merkins just misrepresented by the internet and media?

At first I was going to close this because well, so you know, 2 of your 3 CD mods ARE American. But, here in the US, we also don't roll our weed with tobacco, so I'm assuming this may have something to do with it. I'll see what sort of replies this gets before shutting it down.

I don't know why people here roll joints like that, weed gets wasted in those big, fat joints. I think the problem stems from the fact that rolling weed cigars is so popular here.

Ya know, I never realized if those things, as we call "blunts" here, had any popularity over-seas/in Europe...I really never thought about it.

I lived in America and have been traveling all around the globe. When you say you roll it like a cone are you talking about rolling it inside out? That is a cone shape and its done b/c you use less paper. Most in the states and Caribbean just dont seem to care about extra paper. I really didnt even start to really see tips being used till the netherlands. Have to actually look in the states to find them anywhere.

Where can I get a copy of the international joint rolling measures and standards? I'd like to see the reference that makes it "wrong". ;)

Thread title was intentionally provocative ;)

Why the hell would you want all that extra paper when rolling? When I roll myself a joint (and I believe I roll a fine joint if I may say so myself) I use the smallest papers I have cause I want to smoke mostly weed and as little paper as possible. I could just smoke out of glass (which I mostly do) but I love joints for what they are so I sacrifice smoking the paper.

Even if I'm rolling a phatty I still use the smallest paper I have. Sometimes it barely over laps.. thats right one single layer of paper and it is still nice and tight without being too tight. Unless I'm with a bunch of people I will roll a nice cone but otherwise it is a waste and I want the true taste of the plant, not that paper.

Thread is lulzy (I have to admit, IME Americans do roll pretty rubbish joints, to the point that you say "Honestly mate, just smoke it to yourself"), but is not really CD material I'm afraid. Anyway, Americans tend to view rolling with tobacco with the same kind of disgust as we do a big, rugby-ball-shaped, slobbery, roachless monstrosity. Live and let live. Closed.

EDIT: Thread is retitled, didn't mean to step on toes p_c, I'll get out of the way.

Okay, since some discussion is happening I changed the thread title to get rid of it's provocative nature --- don't want us Americans to get our panties in a bundle over this one ;)

wow what? really? lol. I would offer to re-roll it before I said that. :D Or just try my luck. I guess the only thing I could see prompting me to say this is if they just got done slobbering all over it.

^Well, I'm talking about being offered a joint by someone- you can hardly say "that's a piece of shit pal, I'm rerolling it" to a friendly stranger! Although when I was in Copenhagen recently, an American guy we were smoking with rolled a joint, and my friend (who is not noted for his tact) looked at it, looked the fella square in the face, and, without smiling, said "Roll it again". I feel conflicted, because whilst I'm aware that such behaviour is why everyone hates the English, I can't help but find it funny.

Yeah Yerg, as you can see I was also borderline about this on...but with the thread title being less provocative, perhaps it could cause some interesting discussion between us Americans and you English folks :D

Indeed. Sometimes people know it though, you know? You know when they roll it and they pass it off and they have that look that says "Ya man. I don't know. Sorry, still wanna smoke it?". :D

LOL that is funny. I probably would've just sparked it and smiled. I'm sure your friends would get a good laugh out of my "preggo" joints.

The only differences I know of personally, is the fact that americans tend to roll it with no tobacco (or 'pure' as us english call it. :P) and for some reason don't use roaches?

Other than that shit seems to be the same, apart from what we call stuff...Oh and you americans seem to love your blunts. :P

it's turkish tokers that freak me out.

Does any american care to explain if the no roach thing is as common as I think, and if so, why?
