Japan earthquake, tsunami pictures

its incredible. i'm getting quite a few live reports on facebook (a large proportion of the people who do what i do are in japan). i can't decide whether for stuff like this facebook is a bane or a boon. it told me that a friend is in one of the worst hit places, but a few hours later, it told me she was fine.

sad that the fatalities have racked up, there were zero fatalities for the one a few days ago.

apparently watching buildings not only sway but rotate is quite an experience.

anybody know if i'm right to connect these quakes to the new zealand one, as they're both on the pacific plate, and therefore conclude there's a lot of movement there right now so probably more to come? if so, hope it doesn't get to the other side, california just isn't as prepared as japan.

My mate just told me under no circumstances should I watch the moving pictures as it's even worse. Bad times.
 
This was posted YESTERDAY.

Apparently this months supermoon won't trigger tsunamis.

Last night I had a dream about being stuck in some sort of disaster unable to ring 999, woke up, put BBC News channel on which is my steez as soon as I get up, and there's been a tsunami! Being trapped/unable to call 999 dreams are a common theme with me, but this one was too close for comfort.

I almost can't take in what i'm seeing on the news!

I've got a cousin currently out working as a theatre nurse in Australia with her husband, but i think the threat for the east coast of Australia has been withdrawn. One of my good mates from back up north was born in the Philippines, she goes out there twice a year to visit her family. My thoughts are with her/them just now.

done. and i don't personally see it. even taking some kind of resonance into account, and the most powerful energy sources (that aren't particle accelerators) we have, just cannot focus that amount of energy.

i'm watching the youtube conspiracy video on it now, its not proposed the physical mechanism by which this could possibly occur. conspiracy theorists generally think all the science that disproves them is another conspiracy so don't bother to actually consider the science and come up with decent arguments against it. if you can post something putting forward the precise physical mechanism by which this could occur, i'd be far more inclined to believe it- fuck knows we've done worse.

I like you, but man, come on, that's shit. Keeping the news off Libya? I could think of fifty easier ways to do that than.... er.... induce an earthquake... if that were even possible. Six topless women on bicycles doing wheelies outside Buckingham Palace would get the world's press looking elsewhere and I could probably sort that for £500 if the women didn't have to be good-looking.

Libya's certainly an interesting and volatile place at the moment but if 'they' have the power to shake the continental plates then we can assume that 'they' would also have some pretty innovative ways of making things go 'their' way in Libya.

That is fucking incredible. Really, really bad of course, but just....there's no words. I feel really sorry for anyone that's anywhere near there. Fuck...
 
Horrifying footage is emerging all the time... I'm betting, though hoping I'm wrong, that thousands at least, have perished in the tsunami following this quake. There simply was not time to evac :(

If there was any need to stop reporting of the Libyan crisis, governments would simply TELL media to stop reporting. Simple!
 
The footage is mesmerising and horrible... there are a couple of clips where you can see big waves coming in with cars trying to outrun them, really heart-rending.

that supermoon thing.... who knows what its all about, but one things for sure, it just goes to show really that no matter how clever and how stupendous we the thuman race are, well, we're not, 8o this is one busy panet mother earth, always up to something, really always up to something... man, i used to get so into geophysics so much, i lost my appetite for it a while back, 8)

what a shame for all those people, and here me goin on about mel ife getin turned upsiode down for the want of a lil brown powder, andthis sort of stuff goes one.. we all live in out own realities. %)
