Im trying out different tablets to help me sleep & stay asleep. I'm mainly interested in the common Antipsychotics:
Clozapine, Zyprexa, Risperidone, Seroquel etc. (Currently been taking 5-10mg/night Zyprexa)
Because I've been given sample packs of several of these tablets for my insomnia/anxiety in small doses & wondering how they rank with sedation in your opinion?

I suppose u could feel free to include any otc sleeping aids like Promethazine, Doxylamine, Diphenhydromine etc.
The rx "Z-drugs" & the tetracyclic antidepressants (Mirtazepine etc.)
I wouldnt expect any benzos to be ranking highly as actual sleeping tablets cuz they're more like calming tablets.
Don't wanna here about tablets that arn't actually commonly used.

I'm just looking for rankings of sedation from different meds u've tried to get u to sleep & maybe some comments

1. Zyprexa: has made me most tired with least hangover (Compare with other antipsychotics i've tried but in a higher dose made me sleep to long
2. Seroquel: Gave me funny distorations of vision before going to sleep & gave me a havy body feel. Felt lessclean as Zyprexa
3. Promethazine: first time I took it 75mg (stated & pack to take 1-3 25mg tabs) made me real tired with about the same hangover as Zyprexa & as i mentioned before the hangover is only mild.
4. Doxylamine: Gave me funny CEVs & wasnt as sedative as Promethazine
5. Temazepam: Makes me a little sleepy at high doses more than other & kept me asleep which Xanax was to short acting.

I wont mention any more cuz ive done the top 5 of the ones I've tried. but I can name alot more. I actually like to take benzos in the morning which is quite strange I suppose & than just drink alot of tea/coffee If i start getting drowsy.

I find the ultimate sleeping tablet is zopiclone, personally.

Just neck one with ONE beer and hour before you need to sleep, then start reading a good book.

You'll wake up when the book falls out of your hand; then it's time to switch off the light and it's all zzzzzzzzzz's from there.

I have also found success from Mitrazepine but it makes me groggy the next day.

Promethazine is also helpful.

I find high doses of benzos effective too though: 50-60mg of diazepam will send me to sleep if I'm tired.

A joint can help too, just make sure you smoke it a good few hours before bed or you'll most likely just lie in bed tripping.

All of the above are best enjoyed with ONE beer or equivalent; drink too much and you risk blackouts and respiratory depression.

For sleep I stack H1 Antagonists such as Chlorpheniramine Maleate [Commonly found in Coricidin] and Diphenhydramine [known as trade name Benadryl] -- The generics work just as good as the MUCH more expensive name brands.

These can't be used every night though as their sedative effects become ineffective after just one night in my experience. I bought both in bulk. 1000 tablet bottles. So many uses. I have benzos but I like to conserve them for panic attacks when using psychedelics or disossiatives and things start going wrong.

I don't need to take much to sleep when the time has come usually, but from time to time a friend has given me a couple of Valium or at times some Xanax...

Having said that, I've found that a very simple antihistamine, Phenergan, has me out like a light in a very short time if I have a couple of the 25mg tablets :)

Added bonus - I can crash at my friend's, who has a kitten (called Kevin!!) without going crazy from allergies!

i personally like midzaloam as a sleeping drug but the downside is tolerance which rises very quickly at first i was using 10/15mg=3ml amp which has now got to 45mg my personal fav combo on a night to go to sleep is demerol 100mg/200mg and 30mg of midzaloam both drugs are very sedating

All the hypnotic benzos are very effective to me. Those with longer half-lives are usually the best. I like zopiclone too, despite its relatively short half-life.

I can't keep my eyes open if i take a xanax..not with other benzo's,but it seems very strange to me when i read posts that says that xanax is not a sleeping aid benzo and people don't use it this reason, and valium, ativan etc are sleeping benzo's.It's a litl bit strange but xanax is the only benzo for me who does the job,i take it and in 20-30 minutes i will be sleeping, for sure..But i know, this is just me,and there are not a lot of people who agree with me,and it's a proof that every drug isn't for every people.I like lorazepam and diazepam a lot more than alprazolam,i use them to get high, but alprazolam only for getting sleep, but that's just me..

Ghb, best sleep of your life.
Only side affect, you wake up abruptly and need to redose to go back go sleep

In my experience, out of the benzos i've tried - the most sedating benzos are:

1. Triazolam (most sedating)
2. Nitrazepam
3. Temazepam
4. Flunitrazepam
5. Diazepam

I've also tried midazolam (I did this via the oral route and I think I might've took too little of a dose, so I was disappointed with it), alprazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam, oxazepam, chlordiazepoxide, estazolam, flurazepam, bromazepam, and maybe 1 or 2 more.

I haven't tried lormetazepam, nimetazepam, loprazolam (NOT lorazepam), brotizolam, and flutoprazepam - so my list would probably somewhat different if I had tried more benzos.

I believe triazolam and brotizolam are the most sedating by far, according to most reports.

i took a 25mg seroquel pill without knowing what it was. went to take a nap. woke up 14 hours later. there has never been another drug that i cant keep myself awake on. so id say seroquel is the best to just knock you out cold.

Zyprexa and Seroquel are seriously overprescribed, VERY strong, and quite dangerous. Zyprexa especially.
I once slept for 36+ hours after taking seroquel. I take Diazepam for sleep and it wasn't working well at the time and instead of upping my dose or switching my to tamazepam or alprazolam or triazolam, my phsych gave me a bunch of seroquel samples.
I had his ass writing missed class excuses for days.

^ Zyprexa is an excellent drug and i seriously would NOT be living right now w/o it..
Everyone has different experiences with drugs and my 30mg/day of this one keeps me from killing myself and others.. i would hate to see what i would do if i didn't take it for a week.

^ Didn't you gain massive weight while on Zyprexa? I gained 25 kilos within 2 months on it...

Most powerful sleep aid I've used is Seroquel. Knocks the fuck out of you.

However I don't like it because of the bad side effects and in the morning I'm incredibly tired.

"I wouldnt expect any benzos to be ranking highly as actual sleeping tablets cuz they're more like calming tablets."

Incorrect. Benzodiazepines make great sleep aids. Their called "hypnotics". My favorite is Temazepam, it is an all around good sleep aid. Triazolam (Halcion) is another effective hypnotic. It is very good at knocking you out. Its action is very short but you should be able to fall asleep by the time it wears off.

i've been feeling better since i started trying Zyprexa & I dont feel a horible hangover in the morning. alrhough i have started drinking coffee in the morning and have been eating more.

I'm basically looking for the most practical sleeping tablet for me to take each night.

What people think of risperdol compared to seroqel/zyprexa??
