Are goof balls a real drug?

ask 3 bluelighters the definition of something and get 4 answers.

goofballs has probably been used to refer to uppers & downers but i always heard it properly used to refer to a combination of both, from whence speed ball, even though it is like the lake trout (no lake, no trout), and there is no speed in it. the speedball that is. the goof ball, however, does have speed in it :p
 
and furthermore there's no real answer cause the definitions of these words are so fluid. probably different circles of people have used these terms different ways but my parents (mom was into that sort of thing more than dad but they both definitely saw some times) & most of the older ppl I know, online or IRL, do have a specific lingo but I guess a lot of it is tied to a place and a time ...

I took very close to what I term a "goofball" once -- adderall and i believe sodium amytal, some old school barb that was in somebodys medicine cabinet for 40 years. it still did what its suppsoed to. and I take the amphetamine/benzo combination almost all the time.
 
whatever. Only place i have ever heard the term goofball pertaining to drugs is in old drug books by people like Kerouac, Burroughs, and Selby Jr., and they are talking about barbiturates. No one I know today says, "goofballs." Maybe people i do not know do, and they are talking about your combo.

In time, more people will weigh-in. The ones who agree with me will be right. Just kidding. Kinda. Kidding around.

Your right about goofball being slang for barbiturates. The amphetamine and barbiturate mixture you refer to was called drinamyl. The purple heart shaped tablets were the favourite drug of members of the 60s British youth cult the Mods. After "purple hearts" got a lot of bad press as Britain’s first moral panic about drugs they changed the presentation to round blue tablets which the drug culture called "French blues". French Blues or just Blues were available on the black market until the mid 70s.

But I don’t know where the “French” bit of “French Blues” came from – does anyone else know?

I think that it is more likely that "in time" this post will be closed. No offense but I really dont see any use or benefit coming from this thread.
 
this thread will never really result in much as its trying to define loosely defined drug slang. it should be closed... not sent to another forum so people can bicker incessantly.

This. Burroughs in 'Junkie' explains that 'goof balls' was slang for nembutal - later taken off the market, as it produced a great many fatalities, intentional and otherwise. I remember he wrote dismissively of 'goof ball bums' who had 'no class', and barb abuse as being 'just one step up from the scrubwoman's kick - sniffing ammonia in a bucket.'

Of course, WSB was a great authority on 'class', what with shooting his wife and failing to show up at his own son's funeral.

i thought it was funny because everyone on here has a different definition for it and that site there was 6 different drug definitions for it (there's 2 pages JB)

Yea, not only am I horrible at making "humurous" statements over the internet, but I am even worse at picking up on other peoples humor via the internet. Honestly, I dont even try to be funny anymore, unless its with someone I am very good friends with because people are extremely sensitive and emotional, and if they misunderstand something I was saying while trying to be funny, they usually respond with....well, lets just say they respond negatively.
Its sad.....i think the reason most people get so easily offended, or are so sensitive, is because most people have atleast one or two serious personal issues or insecurities that really bother them and cause them to react like a cornered animal whenever they even sense that they are being disrespected or made fun of. I wish the whole world would just "lighten up". I think that would make this world a much happier place to live in.

Bastards!.....I should tell them this info so they can stop saying that annoying "phrase". Allthough my dad will probably just increase the amount of times he says "jiminey crickets!" to compensate.

James if you have an issue with moderators actions, discuss it with us, don't just call us lazy because of how we choose to address things. Its just as easy to move a thread as close it so laziness wouldn't explain (what you perceive) as closure over moving.

With that said, we can try this in DC but when its moved, its up to their staff if this stays.
 
Goofballs are defintely considered barbituates both by beat writers and drug users I know that popped Seconal and Tuinals in the 60's and 70's ,both are barbituates.There was the amphetamine/barbituate combo pill called the "purple hearts" I have read about and heard old druggies(my relatives and there friends) talk about ,and they all called barbituates goofballs, speed was Bennies,Dexies,and "uppers" and Methedrine etc..

I agree with this post 100% as I have read and heard from people who were suing these drugs the slang names.Nembutal was availble in 1990 in the US..when was in taken off the market? 1990 is twentyo years ago but I remeber Nembutals were more available than Seconal or Tuinals..But they are still available but are Schedule 2 drugs like Morphine,OxyContin,Dexedrine etc..
