Important: What should be in the Codeine FAQ?

Sorry if I'm off the mark, I've had a few beers today, but if the "codeine dribble" was directed at Sustanon and Sublimit as well as me, great.

I thought that knowing what to use to best filter a CWE would be a good addition to a codeine FAQ, but then again, I'm just a newbie. What would I know?

Indeed you are a noobie..

I was joking around. The title of this thread is "What should be in the codeine FAQ"

It has turned into the old codeine thread just under a different name lol..

It should now be converted and all this info put into it under a different name...

Obviously you miss-understood me.

I was about to ask the same question.

I think a few of the original authors are MIA? I haven't had a chance to review and edit the draft yet sorry p_d From memory the most time-consuming part left to do will be referencing the FAQ properly?

opi8 please don't take offence as I'm sure none was intended. As TripppAR mentioned we've been through several enormous codeine threads where the same questions were being asked over and over again so it was decided a FAQ would be the best way to handle the situation.

Regarding filtering the safest method in my opinion is going to involve:

1. Using a minimal amount of cold water (dependant on the number of pills, the different solubilities for codeine, paracetamol & ibuprofen are worth looking up),
2. Multi-stage filtering through for example, a course filter like cloth, and then a finer filter such as paper (coffee filters or lab filters). 25 microns sounds about the same as a coffee filter so should be sufficient if you're not doing CWEs frequently?

The FAQ will cover it all in much greater detail :)

G'day alt.

I have no idea who alt is, but g'day puckboy.

Sorry TripppAR, it's hard to get the tone of a message across on an internet forum, and after my first post here (which I was very reluctant to make), it seemed that I was grossly misunderstood myself, and treated with some amount of hostility. Add that to the way I took your comment, I guess I wasn't feeling very welcome here and retaliated.

I had skimmed through this thread and noticed other similar questions to mine from regular posters being answered and your post must have hit a nerve, probably due to the alcohol in my system.

Thanks belarki, again. I have lurked this forum through the times when there were a bunch of codeine threads on the main page, which is one of the reasons why I decided to post in here instead of digging up an old thread, or starting another one. It seemed like everyone else was doing it...

Recently I've been doing 1 or 2 CWE a week, it really helps me reduce alcohol consumption on those days. You can probably tell from my last post, it's not a great idea for me to drink and post.

Anyway, I'm very much looking forward to the FAQ, and I'd love to be able to contribute if I could.

Haha fail thread mods.

Anywhoo let me say that I am working on a column filtration based extraction that should eliminate both Acetylsalicylic Acid or Acetaminophen along with Caffeine.

Well, the FAQ was completed, it however was not up to the standards that some of the mods wanted (references etc), so it wasn't published.

No one has time to go through several sources and get refs for the info which is in the FAQ, i'm resigning my efforts - it is written if anyone wants it. The others who were writing also haven't got the time to do this.

I'm currently injured, and don't plan to put in anymore work than i already have into this FAQ.

FYI - new report published on OTC codeine use in Australia here

Really interesting read, thanks for linking.

I found this interesting:

2. Non-medical/recreational users; characterised by use specifically for the euphoric effects of
codeine. This group were generally seeking and sharing knowledge to reduce harms.

I'll put my hand up to help out if it is needed. It is far from my area of expertise so my failings may be painfully obvious. I am still willing to try though as we really need to get this happening.

I feel that is very important that we present an informative Codeine FAQ rather than the current "romance" style threads - I love the coining of that phrase.

Verybuffed, pm me your email address, i'll hunt down the doc from my archives or ask some of the others since the pc i wrote it on is screwed now, but i think i might have a copy somewhere.

The FAQ itself needs no work really - it just needs referencing, which i suppose only needs one person to do it. I'm really in no state to do work at the moment - i've got a broken leg and ankle.. fun times.

Anyway, gimme a hoy if you do wanna help out. Also, if i can't find it i know p_d has a copy as would some of the other mods. Personally i think all the information is completely valid in there, and some of the information (that which i wrote) generally ties in to personal experience on my part, in regards to addiction and treatment.

^ yeh the problem is the referencing will be time consuming and could be difficult for someone without subscriptions/access to medical journals etc (e.g. a uni student). From what I've read of the FAQ so far you guys have done a great job though! :)

Ah, Ok that's definitely not me. Coupled with my limited knowledge of the subject matter, maybe I am not the best person? I am happy to do some leg work or whatever to help out though.

To the FAQ contributors; if anyone has any trouble sourcing a paper for reference purposes let me know as I might be able to point you in the right direction. The abstracts for most things should be available via pubmed, which will probably suffice unless you wish to critique the authors' methods. You can probably find some peer review or further reference to support any claims made.

IMO, referencing should be done using a std referencing system such as the Harvard style. There are also programs that automatically structure the wording of a reference. Tronica can probably advise further if she's around.

I received the FAQ but have only just read the message above now. I am seriously not going to be able to help with the referencing, that's very far from my area of expertise.

ok I want to argue with someone on the merits of DXM plus CODEINE. Show me evidence that DXM POTENTIATES codeine. Show me research & credible references that it POTENTIATES codeine.

I tried it based on what people have said here, and what people say all over the net. 2 things I kept track off,
1: Was pain reduced
2: Did my pupils constrict

On a dose of 300mg codeine, I expect to no longer feel cold when it's around 17-18c & i'm just wearing a tshirt and shorts, & my pupils constrict.

On a dose of 300mg codeine + 60mg dxm (DXM taken 45mins before codeine) I get a very strange strong feeling. One that I don't find particularly pleasurable, & is a little frightening. I think it feels more like DXM. Blood pressure sky rockets, hands feel a little numb. I still feel cold, my pupils DON'T constrict. The effects arent' the soft warm pleasurable opiate feel, it's something else.

The question I have is DOES DXM POTENTIATE codeine, or does it cause a side effect, that although strong, isn't potentiation of codeine, it's a side effect of taking large amounts codeine while dxm is in the system. Is this combination potentially dangerous. I had wondered if it's serotonin syndrome, & people are actually getting off on that, not realising the danger.

^ I can't see anyone getting serotonin syndrome off 60mg DXM unless there are other factors at play (SSRIs, etc or some genetic predisposition?). I think d_m et al were recommending half that dose of DXM to potentiate codeine too. I'd say from 60mg you would start to feel the inebriated, dissociative effects of the DXM which could easily overpower the opiate euphoria? Do you have much experience taking DXM in higher doses? Perhaps try 60mg of DXM on its own and compare the two experiences?

Don't worry about the FAQ Verybuffed if the referencing is less than appealing. Your offer to help was greatly appreciated though :) We'll get it finished, polished and online one day....
