Opioids Dr is trying to get me off Oxy & switch to Suboxone

Ok so i made the mistake of not calling the doc and telling him, i was not aware of the potential consequences , i was totally naive.

So do i know have to suffer??

Yes, you do have to suffer as a consequence of your actions.

So how do i correct this horrible situation??

1. Act like an adult when you deal with your PM doctor and his staff.

2. Come clean about the clonazepam before your doctor finds out on his own and refuses to treat you anymore regardless of what bargains you are willing to make.

3. Admit to your doctor that you have a problem with narcotic medication, but you also have a debilitating chronic pain condition that needs to be treated.

4. Ask him what he thinks is the best way to proceed.

5. Follow his recommendations.

Bad idea, Clonazepam is a legit course of treatment for scoliosis because it is a muscle relaxant. His problems may get worst if he renounces to it.

I have to admit it's a stupid situation...if I were him I would listen to my doctor to the letter like ihatepipes said above. It's also because his doctor doesn't know him well. My doctor knows me for years...he understands me. If you cannot have a comfortable conversation about how your doctor spent his vacation, about how his kids are doing in school or about any intimate subjects you don't know your doctor and your doctor doesn't know you.

If he keeps going to walk in clinics asking for narcotics...the doctors don't know him, he may be a junkie, etc.

Yes cut down on oxy, DON'T do suboxone, unless you will be ready for one hell of a WD. I took one and I couldn't get out of bed for 3 days, and I was just plain sick for 2 weeks/

you only wd from suboxone if you take it too soon from the oc. you have to wait til you have mild to moderate withdraws from oc til you can take suboxone and then you will feel like a million bucks. better than i felt taking oxycontin

i know my body very well and am above average educated on the related topics you state here, with all due respect J you are wrong.

otherwise, some of your points are valid. Cheersh.

I actually somewhat agree with you that the OP probably has a problem with oxycodone even if he wont admit it to himself. I dont mean any offense to the OP its just ive been an addict for many many years, and have been addicted to many different drugs.....so I know addict behavior when I see it. Im not saying that I know for sure that you have more of a problem with oxy than you would like to admit, no one can know that but you, im just saying that thats the way it seems.....all signs point to "addicted and in denial". Its very common for someone in your situation, who has only been taking the medication legally given to them by a doctor to find it hard to realize that you in fact are addicted to your medication. In fact, anybody taking the doses of oxycodone that you are for ANY extended period of time would HAVE to become an addict. Or atleast dependent. Whatever word you use, I mean that you have to continue taking your medication or else you will have withdrawals, and your meds arent making you "feel" the way they use to so you are starting to show drug seeking behavior. Its only natural that this wuold happen after taking SOOO many strong opiates for soooo long...even if you are under a doctors supervision.
You can listen to me or decide to ignore what im saying and keep going about your life with your oxy as you wish, but I think you need to seriously start thinking about the situation your in. And really think about what this drug is doing to you. I believe that you know deep down that you truly do enjoy the "highs" that the oxy can give you, and since they arent doing that anymore for you, you are trying/hoping for an increase in your oxy dose. Its extremely easy to come up with an excuse as to why you took more of your meds than you were prescribed, even if the excuse was thought up subconciously. Maybe you dont even realize that you saying that you took the extra meds because of your active lifestyle was just an excuse that you gave to yourself subconciously so you wouldnt feel bad, or feel like an "addict" when you take extra oxy so you can feel that "goodness" that oxy can cause.
Im pretty sure that no matter what I say here your going to keep wanting to take your oxy, and thats because your addicted to it and I know how hard it is to want to make a change that goes in the opposite direction of your addiction....and there are so many excuses you can come up with as to why you SHOULD keep taking the oxy, its just too hard to say no. And I know that some of those excuses as to why you should take the oxy are actually very good and valid excuses(i.e. your disorder) but what im trying to say is that there is an excuse/reason as to why you should stop taking the oxy that is even more valid and even more important than any excuse you can come up with as to why you should keep taking your medication.....And that reason is that you are living an addicts life. And it is holding you back from reaching your full potential. I know from many years of experience, that even though there could be positive effects resulting from taking that drug, the negative outweighs the positive.
There are plenty of other medications and techniques that you can take/try to manage your pain other than taking oxy. You could even take suboxone like the doctors reccommended. It truly is a very good painkiller yet it doesnt cause the addiction that you are facing right now. I also know that from experience, I take suboxone everyday and it kills any pain I have, and since I donthave as much pain as you I get high off of it as well. But the good part is, im not addicted to it. Because of the type of drug suboxone is, it prevents me from becoming addicted to it.

Im sry for making such a long post that your probably not going to listen to anyway, and I do realize that there are even more factors that need to be considered with this issue that I didnt even talk about but its just hard to do this over the internet. i wish you well and hope that you make the right choices for yourself.....choices that are not influenced by the "high" you can get from oxy. *the word "high" can mean pleasurable or painkilling, it doesnt necessarily mean you feel orgasmic or anything*

i concur.

Do you fully understand the concepts/do's and dont's of pain management? I am not trying to insult you in any way I am just asking.

It may be a legit course of treatment for scoliosis but a condition of any Pain Management contract I have ever seen or heard of is that a patient will not accept prescriptions for scheduled drugs from any other doctors.

If the OP wants to have any chance of continuing treatment with the Pain Management doctor he is currently seeing then the OP better make sure that his doctor hears it from him first. I can pretty much almost guarantee that if the OP's doctor finds out about the clonazepam from anyone but the OP there is going to be hell to pay.

The OP has already jeopardized the likelihood that his pain will be treated with the most effective pain killers known to man (opiates), and the last thing he needs to do is to add deceiving his Pain Management doctor to the list of things he has done that reduce his chances of being treated with opioid analgesics.

Yes, I agree it's important to have a good relationship with your pain doctor. Every so often, he would ask us to drop urine. I neglected to tell him that my psych doctor was unhappy about me using oxycodone and prescribed my suboxone. (this psych I had a good relationship with for more then 9 years) My next visit with pm, he goes over my drug test with me and WTF? I had to explain sheepishly that I used the suboxone because I had run out of the oxy and it had been six weeks since my last visit.

I could not see him because I had run out of money, and he knew I was unemployed. He offered to prescribe the suboxone because he also deals with addiction management, but by then I had no insurance to cover it. I'm glad he gave me another chance while most doctors would have sent me packing. But being that I wear my heart on my sleeve and can tell him everything, he was sympathetic and I feel fortunate. There are not many doctors in this field who let patients get away with this.

This is why I was a bit worried when op mentioned that he went to a different doctor and got klonipin. Knowing that pm doctor is very much against mixing opiates with benzos. Even if you've flown under the radar with them not having a statewide database, don't they make you take drug tests every so often?

only went to the walk in for a asthma puffer and something to calm me down.
Thats it.

and i am not a junkie.

I don't know what fucked up region you come from but my doctor does whatever I tell him. If I tell him give me oxy, he gives me oxy...because he knows that the odds of me abusing it are slim to none...I agree tho, he should listen to his doctor and cut the stupid shit he's doing right now.

First of all, we can't "coach" you on what to say to your doctor in order to persuade him one way or another. That is NOT harm reduction.

If you are in pain, and your true goal is to keep that pain at bay, then your best bet is to listen to your doctor. Honestly, by the way you have been posting, it seems to me that you only want to stay on the oxy because it gets you more high than suboxone/methadone would. This may not be true but its how you come across. And it probably is how you would come across to a doctor. I mean, you havent even given us a reason as to why you wouldnt want to try another medication....you simply asked for advice on how to manipulate your doctor into keeping you on the oxy.

If I were you, I would take the medication that my doctor prescribes me, and be honest with him/her as to how effective it is at killing my pain. I do not see any reason why you shouldnt give methadone or suboxone a try. they are both very potent opiates. Suboxone is ~40x's stronger than morphine. If you actually DO come up with a valid reason as to why you shouldnt switch your medication....you should tell THAT to your doctor.

I really dont know what other advice you want us to give.

*You say you want to avoid withdrawals and thats why you dont want to switch.....well, guess what, suboxone withdrawals are much less severe than oxy withdrawals. Especially at the low doses you will be taking, because suboxone only acts as a painkiller at doses lower than ~2mg's. And I can tell you from personal experience(I take ~2mg's of sub every day) that I can stop taking my suboxone anytime with no withdrawal effects because im at such a low dose. Oxy withdrawals are HELL, I know that from personal experience as well*

The fact that you say you can come off of 2mg of suboxone with no withdrawal is absolute bullshit. I did the entire rehab thing for around 6 months, and finally tapered down to 2mg. After a while on that I jumped off and the withdrawal was very bad. I couldn't sleep or eat for weeks. I agree that Oxy/Heroin withdrawal is worse, short term - but when you factor in how long it takes to start feeling better from suboxone withdrawal I would honestly say that my suboxone withdrawal was much worse than the many heroin withdrawals I've been through.

Stop taking your 2mg of suboxone for around 3 days, and THEN come on here and tell me you have no withdrawal from it.

Ive actually stopped taking my suboxone for up to 15 days with no withdrawal. No offense but theres no reason to treat me so rudely when you really have no idea what I experience. I have talked about this with many people, many times, here on BL, and I can swear on my grandmothers grave that I have absolutely zero withdrawal symptoms when I stop taking my suboxone.

So, next time, please dont treat me rudely just because you dont understand my situation, or how I respond to something. Your attitude, in no way, helps anyone here at BL.

You're right, I apologize. I just find it hard to believe that you can stop taking it with no withdrawal symptoms. If that is the case then it is truly amazing.

Why aren't we seriously studying people like you? All these people who have withdrawal from coming off of suboxone. If we knew WHY you don't have withdrawal from it then maybe they could do something about it.

Also, I was not being sarcastic in my above comments. I know it may seem like it since the last post was kind of mean.

As to the OP, I kind of have to agree with everything they said about the addiction to Oxy. I mean, you even have Oxycontin in your interests - is that necessary?

Well no the party's over in South Florida anyway. It's a struggle for the past few months for people to get their oxy filled. Many doctors like mine, were able to dispense your monthly script. The laws have changed and force patients to go to a pharmacy. I had to switch to hydro because my doctor ran out. The pharmacies are still price gouging or some are making their own formulary brand. If you are not established at a pharmacy in your county, they are short and only reserve only the little they have for continuous customers - It's very hard to find a pharmacy that will accept you as a new patient with a prescription for oxy. :(

thats pretty lame.......

I disagree slghtly.........ALOT of people AND doctors abused there privelages and as a result they are having to pay the consequences. I do realize that there more than likely are some innocent people who are having to pay other peoples consequences as well, but that is the price you pay when you choose to live in a society such as ours. You put yourself at those risks when you decide to live in our democratic community. I feel sry for those innocent people, but I feel no sympathy for those people who were abusing the system to get to potent narcotics......and this is coming from an ex-addict.

They are history.

I Revoked my ex family doctor and pain clinic doc and am looking for a new doc that will refer me to a new pain clinic and hep me with my long term plan. The provincial Gov knows every detail and advised me to go the ER at my Hospital with the specialists reports and ask they bridge my pain meds till i find a new family doc who can refer me to a new clinic .. perhaps he wont and he will take after my treatment for good?? i can only pray.

1. reduce my oxy intake - 10% every 1-? months (this month 10% already succeeded) Depending on my activity level and weather*

2. no intake or detox lock up. I am a legit person with legit pain treatment needs. I demanded a new urine test after the test came up + for cocaine - never took it, never. False Positive from what my research has told me. My 2nd follow up pee test must have come up negative as my last prescription was released to me a few days back for the entire week. Now I know why they dispensed daily last weeks*** ANGRY**** Someone messed up with my test and they need to pay. Email sent to Director & PR dept at Hospital.

... i need to get my life back on track and begin my business and work work work, a ssoon as a new doc alleviates all of my anxiety from having to be treated like a rat in cage. not for me. Too strong. Too smart. Too legitimate.

I wish you all, everyone here on blue light the very very best and health, wealth and a few other things your heart desires. All of it.

stay Safe, Safety is key. Health will follow. wealth too hopefully.
