Why isn't Ecstasy legal?

Nah people would do it all the time and it would no longer be fun and special.
What i like about MDMA is the fact its quite pricey these days because it means i do it much less often... I have done MDMA binges but its never quite good...

If i only do it every so often because i'm more likley to have an amazing roll.
once a month i would say...

wines made from grapes have existed for more than 10,000 years and that drinks such as mead and beer have existed for even longer. why NOT legal MDMA? see how old is alcohol, people are alive. There were always alcoholics, so what can you do with that>? What do u fear if MDMA will become LEGAL. ofcourse many will die from it, but thats the way it is. If it will become legal it will be very popular at first but later it will be avrage, like everything in this wolrd. Everyone is responsable for themselfs.

Of course ecstasy shouldnt be legalised, are you mad?
Prohibition been a great success, it has taken drugs out of the hands of criminals, out of the mouths of the ordinary innocent indvidual, drug related crime is non-existent. There is no longer a black-market feeding organised criminal networks and terrorism.

Wow can't believe so many people think MDMA (or any other drug for that matter) should be illegal. Like someone mentioned the government shouldn't be able to punish us for only damaging ourselves. More research could be done and proper harm prevention studies could probably make MDMA harmless (bundle it with the proper dose/instrustions of ALA, deprenyl, ALCAR etc...) The only social problem that would come is abuse, but thats already somewhat of a problem. So basically nothing would change except the government would save millions on housing non-violent drug offenders and being able to finally say goodbye to the DEA and narcotics branches (and turn them over to stop violent criminals), would earn money by selling drugs, which could then be put into research a abuse programs. I'm 18 and about 80% of people I know have tried MDMA, and 90% of them are responsible with it, not binging or doing it to frequently. Just because there are people who are irresponsible and will ruin their lives over a drug, doesn't mean the government should spend billions on propaganda and law enforcement, which in reality only makes the problem worse.

Read again, I don't want MDMA to be legal, but not because I don't think people can be trusted with a dangerous substance. I want MDMA to stay illegal for purely selfish reasons. MDMA staying illegal means I can obtain it easily, no questions asked, by some dude down my street for a pretty cheap price. If MDMA became legal it'd come with a boat load of regulation that you can bet would take it out of the hands of dealers and into the hands of pharmacies and doctors. Yes, I'm sure there'd still be a street market for it, but look how that's working for the price of Oxy (at least around here, I hear Oxy is ridiculously expensive.) Making MDMA legal would not mean that it'd suddenly be as easy as walking down to Walgreen's and picking up a couple tabs in a brightly colored packet sitting next to the cash wrap. I don't think they'd even make it as easy as it is to get a medical marijuana card these days. That's just not going to happen.

Now in a perfect world, decriminalization is what I think we're all wanting to see. Being able to buy MDMA from your dealer without having to worry about you or him getting busted and thrown in jail for it. Being able to take pills into a club/party without risk of being thrown out or handed off to the police. Being able to supply your friends with pills at your house party. It's kind of far fetched, but that's what I'd like to see with pretty much all drugs.

Over half of all fatal car crashes in the US are alcohol related.

Alcohol is the most widely abused drug and available drug in the world (other than caffeine).

And yet alcohol is completely legal and socially acceptable.

Why? Because big alcohol companies generate a SHITLOAD of revenue. Taxable revenue.

I don't neccesarily think MDMA should be 100% legal, but if a drug as dangerous and addictive as alcohol can be legal, than why not MDMA? At the very least it should be made legal for therapeutic sessions and prescription. If the government was really worried about drug abuse, they wouldn't be prescribing opiates to anyone and everyone who walks into the doc's saying their back hurts.

Plain and simple, MDMA is mainly illegal because there is not big enough of a market for it to generate big money. One day, it might, then it will probably be in the same boat as weed is right now. Until then, we can just dream.

Everything you said just goes to show how it should be made 100% legal, along with other drugs. If it were up to me I'd make heroin, meth, oxy all legal to buy for anyone 18+. In reality how many more people are gonna try crack/heroin just because its legal?? I know I'm never going to. I don't think I'm more responsible then everyone else. If prohibition worked, i'd say stick with that. But to bad it doesn't. It puts money in the hands of criminals, and makes ordinary people into criminals. Nothing will EVER stop drug dealing. Every drug dealer could die right now and by this time next week there would be a whole new network or drug dealers. To much money in this market to ignore. How about putting it towards schools, hospitals, research, and drug rehab centers? That sounds better than buying new grills and rims for the dealers. With or without legalization there will always be abuse. But I bet the only drugs that would actually see a real increase in use/abuse if all drugs were legal would be shit like oxycodone, MDMA and cocaine, because I don't think the general public is gonna start smoking crack/meth or shooting heroin. Alcohol is legal and we're all still here, our world isnt burning.

I think it's interesting that people are hypothesizing that making it legal would make it easier to get and more prone to abuse.

When I was 16, I could get a bagfull of MDMA, first phone call to having the bag in my hand, in less than an hour and a half. Only once in a blue moon could I get alcohol.

It's true, I don't understand why people think it illegality actually protects people. There are two issues here. Whether we have a right to decide for ourselves, and whether or not prohibition is actually beneficial. I suppose there can be different opinions as to whether or not we have the right to do what we want (which I think we do), but it's pretty clear that prohobition is making things worse.

legalized, the usual reasons offcourse.

but mostly because other things that are more dangerous like being stressed out and driven to burn out in the course of a year under guidance of your company, their biased dr and the so could mental health professionals resulting in permanent brain damage to the hypothalamus also have (semi)legal status.

i myself can say that years of GHB/GBL abuse with 24/7 aspects, weekly weekend MDMA/ ... sessions, poly drug use and well even drowning 1 1/2 years in ethanol have had neglible effects on me compared to the effect of the burn out. be warned don t work to hard!

i think it should eventually be legalized, but first there needs to be some serious education given out about responsible use and the facts about mdma. people are so drug retarded in america that i feel like people who didn't know better would treat it like alcohol and use it on a regular basis for a while. there would be a lot of fried brains walking around.

+1

I am completely amazed that there are so many people on here convinced that if drugs were made illegal, that the world would go to shit, 'cause god forbid you learn to exercise some self-control! As has already been said, I highly doubt that if heroin and crack were legalized, then everyone and their mother would run out and start smoking and shooting up. If you want heroin, you'll find it, whether it involves finding a dealer or going to a store, and increased ease of access is not going to make a clean person suddenly go hunting for drugs. Use of other drugs which have a better image and less consequences, like ecstacy, some psychedelics, etc., might go up, but even then they'd be safer, since they'd be made by companies who are concerned with reputation and the quality of their product.

Making them prescription only also defeats the purpose, since that fosters a black market as well (i.e. oxy). If the legal means are too prohibitive, it will do nothing to quell the black market for the drug.

I also can't believe how many people want to make the age limit 21. Come on now. I'm 19 - my government considers me too irresponsible and immature to drink a beer (and all I can say is: thank God for universities with liberal alcohol policies ^_^). As has been said, if the government thinks I'm old enough to be shipped off to gun down people halfway across the world, it's a tad hypocritical to also think I can't have a drink. Or take some ecstacy, for that matter.

Legal to buy and use at 20. Illegal to drive and work under the influence. No crime for public intoxication unless breaking another law. Illegal to own very large quantities (more than 5 grams maybe?), let's be honest, if you could buy a ton, yet it was still illegal to some, it would still create a huge black market. Any remaining black market would be dirty cheap because it is accessible (there is little if any markup on alcohol). Less money involved, less guns, less violence, less meth bombs. Do you know any gangs that push alcohol?

^If it's illegal to have more than 5 grams, who's going to be selling it? Surely that doesn't deal with the organised crime problem at all?

Anything would be better than the current mdma legislation. I think drugs that aren't incredibly addictive should be uncontrolled. Drug education instead of prevention should be taught. Then whoever dies or has complications from these drugs would be held responsible for their own actions.

Stores? If it's legal to own under 5 grams it can help prevent abuse and a black market. The only people that a black market will cater to is those who have been cut off from buying (fairly easy to track electronically) and those who are under age. You think your 16 year old brother is gonna go to some shady sketchball for what they were told is molly from a store? Nah, they'd ask their big brother to help them out. People don't realize how if it were legalized and regulated similar to alcohol how smoothly things would go.
