FIFA World Cup 2010

Yep it makes us look better that they thrashed Argentina of all people by 4 goals. On this form the Germans could even win the tournament! 8o

I can see Germany's organisation, composure and ruthlessness destroying Spain. Their main threat is Villa and iniesta, if they contain them they'll go on to win i feel. I can forsee a Germany v Holland final.

Well done Germany! Amazing performance, they totally outplayed Argentina. I would never have bet on 4-0 before the game, can't quite believe it. Such an organised and efficient team, no heroics just incredibly solid football all round.

I think you're doing Germany a slight disservice. They weren't just organised and efficient; they played really good passing football. Even when their defenders had the ball and the Argentine forwards were putting pressure on them, they almost always managed to pass their way out of trouble (unlike England's defenders who always hoof the ball up the pitch).

I still think Spain will win the World Cup though.

Amazing performance by Germany, I hope the Spaniards go out tonight, but if they win against Paraguay I can see them getting slaughtered by the Germans, unless they cheat and dive their way to the cup.

The Germans don't dive and don't play handball and still manage honest wins against these latin teams that seem so keen on cheating their way through, one of the reasons I was happy Italy went out soon, sometimes I don't feel that we deserve the wins when I see our players getting penalties that weren't there or getting other players sent off.

I've been supporting Germany all along and will do until the end of the tournament, brilliant performance really.

I thought Brazil played far better football than Holland (especially in the first half). Both of Holland's goals were pretty freakish. It's amazing that Holland have got to the semis without really playing well so far in the tournament. Of course, now you have to fancy them to get to the final (where they will lose to Spain).

yeah, it really just came down to a few big plays and penalties for the Dutch, unlike Germany who left nothing to the imagination

it just sucks that Müller won't be playing in the next game... otherwise really neat performance

Fuck me, I'm awake 5 minutes and have seen 3 missed penalties. 8o Spain looking slick but Paraguay have the scramble working.

The pointy end of this tournament is unreal.

Spain was bound to win, but their coordination and passing was way off in the first half, among many things. in the end, Paraguay and Argentina just couldn't score goals, their game was just too defensive

Spain are going to have to play A LOT better to have a chance of going past the Germans, Paraguay were really holding them down well until that one small passage of great play by Iniesta. The reforee must have been high too with that penalty re-take lol

Those England fans are pricks who don't know how to be dignified in defeat.
The English public seem to expect their team to win every tournament.
They have only won one World cup ever.
I think this can be considered national arrogance and makes us look like dicks.
England laughed at Scotland in 78 when they expected to win the World Cup and came home with nothing.
Now they act the same and get all hurt and angry when their unrealistic expectations aren't matched.
Happy to say I was in Germany surrounded by Germans who didn't take the piss, bought me beer and made me feel welcome.
As most other nations would, I feel sorry for that German guy there fair play to him for retrieving the flag.
Burning another nations flag isn't what British people do, its hugely embarrassing.

I hope Germany win this now.

Rejoice, rejoice at Germany's emphatic World Cup victory over England! Stefan Szymanski, an economist, NS contributor and co-author of a book called Why England Lose, pointed out in the Times that the English Premier League, from which most England players are drawn, is "the child of the Anglo-Saxon model of capitalism": highly priced, barely regulated, controlled by plutocrats, marketed worldwide, full of extravagantly remunerated foreigners. The Bundesliga, on the other hand, comprises highly regulated clubs (subject to strict national rules on what they spend) owned by local fans. The players include a large proportion of home-grown products.

The World Cup match, concluded Szymanski, was a contest between "the liberal British model" and "the German model of social democracy". Thank God our side won. The left doesn't have much to celebrate these days.

support our german comrades
