New Tobacco Law Goes Into Effect

Camel Lights are now Camel Blues...

My Parliament Ultra Lights are still Ultra Lights.

:! Products can't be named certain ways? What the hell are we coming to?

Isn't that pretty obvious already that products can't be named certain ways? Would you see a beer or cigarette called "Toddlers Choice"?

It was only been a few months ago that the 'Cocaine' drink was taken off the market.

Just more ways to CONTROL things. Wasting time and millions of our dollars passing virtually meaningless laws that really wont do a damn thing in the long run.

All this while there were never laws passed to make sure that if there was an oil leak, there would be a way to shut it off......

Who is running this shop anyway???

What are you upset about here? Where are you drawing these conclusions?

This law isn't costing 'millions of dollars'. It's only going to cost the cigarette companies who have to change their labels. Also, this will do something in the long run. If this were to cut down on smoking related diseases/illnesses in a big enough way it could translate into less spent on health care.

I'm definitely not one for having increasing government control, but whining about this law makes pretty much no sense and nothing is being lost from a consumer standpoint, except you have to say "gold" instead of "light". Oh no! The terrible government! 8)

What's gonna happen to black and milds though? That's making their brand name illegal? Seems a little much doesn't it?

That's a good point. I hadn't noticed that.

By extension, what'll happen to Phillies Blunt? Someone may be misled into thinking they're not as sharp as regular Phillies.

mild in b&m refers to the taste right? i agree it'd be going too far there

i can see both sides here, mainly because these extremely powerful agencies abuse their powers, get carried away (e.g. if they want to rename black and milds that'd be an example), etc. and this is the DEA we're talking about, BLers know a little about their track record :)

cigarette companies are very long overdue for regulation, though. if any drug needs to be handled more carefully, it's tobacco

I think this might have an impact or a much larger number of sports related shit than they realize. Any team for anything that is funded by a tobacco company is fucked...

How about reining in the government. That's the source of most of our problems.

This explains a lot. I think RJ Reynolds was ahead of the game in making Pall Mall color coded, long before this ever passed.

Products can't mislead, there is a difference

Saying they can't cell Light cigarettes is like saying Coke can't sell Caffeine Free Diet Coke (which is horrible by the way, I don't know why they do make it).

Except that caffeine free diet coke doesn't contain caffeine or sugar, so it's not misleading. If Coca Cola were selling a product that contained caffeine while advertising it as caffeine free, would you have a problem with that?

If companies are concerned about losing customers due to packaging...
make these for all major brands?
