Highly recommended supplements?

Nobody mentioning a nitric oxide pre-workout for someone who says he's into lifting? Myself (and a couple trainers I know) are big on it for helping get that extra energy and pump out of every workout. No-Xplode, Nano-Vapor, etc. I won't recommend any one in particular because peoples opinions on how each one works for them differ. Its a trial and error thing so it can be spendy - unless you have friends who use it also, then you can get a sample off them!

But yeah, nitric oxide boosters FTW.

Meh just take creatine instead of wasting like £10 per week or something on those no-Xplode things...

Totally different uses. Use them in combination I say. Have you actually tried any Nirk, or you just put off by the price? They are spendy, but I think they are worth it every other month. Like most things, taking a break from them is good - but for me that's when I really seemed to realize how much they did for me when I was using them. Then again the OP did say he wasn't interested in the 60+ for a month supply supplement, so that kind of cancels out the suggestion.

OP also asked about cholesterol and eggs - the rule of thumb I absorbed was 2 egg yolk a day max. Which sucks because I could eat a half dozen boiled eggs a day, I love the yolk.

I just skimmed that article so I didn't read everything but they seem to be a bit confused w/regards to calcium -
Before one even thinks about supplementing calcium, one needs their D3 and K2 levels in order. After that, 500-600mg/per day should be fine. When using using proper chelates, this is a non issue. However, for men who eat dairy or meat and supplement D3/K2, calcium deficiency is unheard of. Barring the elderly and those with other medical issues of course.
Calcium and magnesium have been known to antagonize each other, but as far as I know, this is only an issue with inorganic salts like carbonate and oxide.

The rest looks ok I suppose, I would up the dose of Vit D to 4000 IU+ per day, but no big deal.

However that is hardly everything you will ever need to know about supplements. Far, far, far from it.
The entire scienentific community dosen't even know everything about supplement use in humans, why the hell do you think we still do studies and experiements? 8(

Ok, maybe its not 'everything' you need to know, but, for all the shit out there that people take I think its a pretty definitive list. Most people dont need even half the supplements they take and thats what the writer is trying to get across. There are literally thousands of supplements out there and he has just narrowed it down to the few that are useful to 'most' people. :)

The only real benefit from the glucosamine and chondroitin you mentioned are for the health of your joints.

The glutamine you mentioned however is an amino acid that is helpful for recovery, digestion and immune system strengthening. Lots of post exercise whey protein powders already have it included so I would check that first before you go out and buy more.

I really feel the need to put my oar in the water about your cholesterol however since I sell a drug for treating it and talk about cholesterol every day. I very much doubt your cholesterol levels would rise to any great significance even if you ate 20 eggs a day. Eat the whole thing. Including a certain amount of dietary fat will help you reach your fitness goals. In fact all these supplements really should only be considered if you already have a healthy diet already otherwise you're not going to be getting your value from them.

Your cholesterol is far more likely to be elevated by some of the other factors mentioned in your post such as getting the munchies and alchohol consumption. If it is really worrying you however go an get a blood test done and you can find out were you are at. If you are young and fit however the liklihood of you having a heart attack or stroke is very very low even if you have raised cholesterol.

ive heard no-explode puts massive stress on your liver or something. i was going to buy some but now im a bit hesitant. think i'll stick to just whey and creatine

I have tried my own mixture of amino acids such as arginine, creatine etc. and yeh it does give you a bit of a pump but personally I would rather progress slower but know all the gains have come naturally, I dont really like taking loads of aminos, I would rather just eat some food. Things like NOS explode etc, I aint spending that much money on! But fair enough if you like them and they work for you, although I am not convinced that they are particularily healthy to take anyway. Just stick to creatine IMO.

Also all this worry about "if i eat all those egg yolks my cholesterol will rocket" is unfounded, I have read from multiple places that eating good dietary fat does not increase cholesterol levels significantly... Just try to avoid trans fats, excessive alchohol etc. Eating fat from good sources is actually good for you...

Delta_9 why do you need to supplement with vitamin K? Just eat a small serving of veg and you get loads of vitamin K! And Also you wouldnt need to supplement with vitamin D on sunny days either because your body makes it when its sunny....

I feel that my diet is rather good for the shit that I do. I drink lots of milk so calcium and Vit D arnt a problem. I have been trying to eat more fruits and veges. Got loads of fruit in the house now, probably make a smoothie later.

But I have been taking this fish oil and man has it been fucking with my poop. Smells like a baby and wipes like a baby... Been trying to counter it with fiber bars but still not much... Just eat more fiber?

Wouldnt bother eating much fruit tbh mate its not really that good for you... just eat plenty of veg.

wait, what? fruit not that good for you?

Just saying it doesnt actually contain that much which is good for you other than vitamin C... and it is full of fructose which is bad....

Just said to eat more veg instead of loads of fruit... just maybe have a bit of fruit.

Fructose is at least better than sucrose. Like if you have a sweet-tooth, fruit is a better choice than refined sugar crap. But yeah, vegetables are where it's at. Forget the fruit unless you crave sweets.

fruits (each is different) contain: fiber, potassium, beta-carotene, folic acid, calcium ellagic acid, anthocyanins, perillyl alcohol, naringenin....etc

in moderation they're a perfect energy source.

slam a home made fruit smoothie post workout followed by some good quality protein....nom : )

But they dont really contain very much of those things compared to veg and meat....

I think the OP was saying he wanted to lose some weight so maybe eating loads of fruit smoothies isnt a good idea because lots of fructose isnt very good for loosing weight.. Good to have a little bit in the monring or after a workout because fructose fills up your liver glycogen fast but once its full it would lead to fat storage.

Personally I just have a glass of orange juice occssionally but I dont really like fruit other than berries and strawberries which are ridiculously expensive anyway.

Around here they arnt bad. Had a banana yesterday. I just cant get into eating a bunch of fruit because then I just come back hungry in an hour or so...

Yeh thats probably all the fructose sugar.... fills you up for about an hour then you get hungry again as your blood sugar levels drop down below normal....

Thats part of the reason why I was saying not to eat loads of fruit to the OP who is trying to lose fat... I eat 2 100% beef 1/4pounder burgers for breakfast and that keep me full for about 5 hours! :D

Not saying fruit is inherantly bad and some of it tastes quite nice like strawberries but eating loads of it thinking "its fruit it must be good" isnt really a good idea :)

Unless Im getting a bunch protein or I just eat a load of calories, I get hungry relatively fast. Shit like Mac N Cheese is no good anymore... Straight carbs, hungry in 2 hours after a box...

Judging by your avatar pic thats prob the weed mate :p I used to get EXTREME muchies when I used to smoke it haha... for example one time when there was no food in the house i drank an entire bottle of tomato ketchup and ate a whole jar of marmite raw LOL.

Sounds like you are a victim of High GI carb insulin spikes and troughs.... eat some more fat and it will keep you full longer...

Im talking when I wake up. Shit like cereal and what not just doesnt last. Oatmeal, etc... And I rarely smoke before I do anything. I like to get my lift in and shit before I start to do drugs...

Yeh and carbs make you look bloated as well.... All I eat for carbs is about 90-120g a day in a few small servings just to give me brain some glucose to run on and stop muscle glycogen getting to low... Rest of my calories come from fat and protein becuase fat keeps you full up for more than 5 mins, also encourages your body to use fat for fuel more.

Been messing around with caffeine pills but they dont do fuck. Just make me more tired with no energy...
