I have another reason to add to this whole thing, maybe an ignorant one, but in my experience, some minorities shy away from cops like an abused dog shies away from it's master. And that sort of attitude draws unwanted attention. Wheras, if you aren't afraid, you can walk around smoking joints and people will assume they're rolled cigarettes. And you can ask a cop for directions with blood red eyes and he'll assume you have allergies.
And why wouldnt u shy away from authorities if u been TREATED like a abused dog by them ur whole life? Many of yall aint lived in the places that we talkin about here, "ghetto" "hood" "high crime neighborhood" wtfever u want to call it, but in these communities there is a long-term, generation-passed-down, deep seated mis trust and fear of law enforcement. thats the way it been for a long time, and its like embedded in ppls attitudes and minds. U cant just change some shit like that over night. And let me tell u I aint even black, but I been havin fear of cops and all type of cop figures like that since I was a little girl. And even now, as a 100% clean ex addict who dont even do the slightest illegal thing at all, Im still scared, shit.
When you constantly see your FAMILY, FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, and SELF targeted and treated unfairly, falsely accused, abused, taunted, harassed, and all around catch hell from these ppl who is suppose to protect u, its a bigger problem than just one persons attitude or feelings or how they dress or talk or act or watever. Theres a Us and Them syndrome happenin and its long and its strong, and u know wat side u on. and thats ingrained in life in the hood for a lot of ppl. Black white brown it dont matter, when u come from there, the distrust and waryness of police its universal thru the races . but especially strong in minorities for easy to understand reasons.
When people talk about mistreatment or watever, it aint about "400 years" OK. Its shit, that is happening, riiiight, now. Maybe that u aint aware of. but it is. There is injustices of so many kinds it would blow your mind, goin down on a corner near you, every day of the week month and year, but nobody hears if they aint hearin from the street, and that means the people there know, but the rest of the world dont. "Well if its really happening the newpapers would be reporting it, i men there woudl be a outrage if that many innocent people was gettin targeted!" Bullshit. Cuz it happens and keeps happenin and its like enclosed in a invisible wall that surrounds the community keeping this shit in and keeping the outsiders out so they never get a totally true picture of wats goin on.
I aint tryin to ramble on, All im sayin is that u act like its some kind of stupidity or ignorance or attitude problem or somethin, on the part of the black and hispanic folks who pretty much is straight up scared of police. Why? Because from the moment you get those cuffs on...ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Law, goes out the window. Fairness, bye bye. Right and wrong, justice, gone. Maybe when you got arrested you got charged with exactly the thing you did, and maybe even less. But when you on the wrong side of the tracks, the wrong side of the police, the wrong side of the race line....Theres a lot more possibilities. I known my self personally, people who had nothing on them who got charged with possession of 115 bags of heroin. 67 vials of hard(crack.) People who didnt do nothing wrong but cussed back at the cop who taunted them and verbally attacked them, who got ass beatings and drugs or weapons planted on them. This aint no fuckin detective movie, no comic book shit, this is real life things I seen for my self go down. If you knew that when you walking down the street in your own neighborhood, wearin some comfortable clothes that consists of baggy sweats, a white T and a du rag and some nikes, you could get randomly stopped while walkin down the street, pushed up against the wall and cuffed, and at that moment ur entire fuckin life could change in ways that u cant even control at the moment, maybe u would have a little fear too. When you realize the power that they have over you, that even random, casual, non-criminal/cop encounters can end up with you cuffed down on the ground, I think you jus might be a little cautious too...
"Oh well if you know you black and that your hood is targeted, and know that they target ppl who dress like "thugs" then u should change ur appearance, and dont walk around at night, act different, come on."
No, becuz U have a right to walk , on your street, in the clothes that you feel is comfortable, and since when is a t shirt and sweat pants the "thug uniform." U aint gotta be wearin a Stop Snitchin or a shirt with some shit like DOPE BOY MONEY across the front to be considered lookin "suspect". these cops call u suspect if you got skin darker than the tone of extra-light coffee and are on the street anytime after sunset. The way shit is, is the way it is, and people gotta adapt how they act to work the best way that will be the most beneficial to them when they in that world. But how bout, lets not get so caught up in tellin people about "thats the way it is, so this is how u gotta act, and deal with it" that we forget the part about how this shit is unfair, misguided, and straight up WRONG in the first place.
U can talk about how we know its wrong but it aint gonna change, so if we smart and dont wanna get caught up, this is wat we gotta do to live with the wrongness...Accepting the wrongness, in order to be able to survive in the wrongness......but its still wrong. Thats all im sayin.
