the official 'pets and drugs' thread

Who elses Animals seem to tap into your state of mind on drugs

I took an ambien and tried to stay awake. As it was kicking in my cat was like all up in my face and freaking out like OMG what is wrong wtih my owner??

Anyone else's pet do the same?

lol one time we were smoking weed n my friends beagle smelled it and it ran upstairs n started barking to my friends mom she came down n yelled at us for smoking lol the dog snitched on us.

My friends dog (collie cross breed) used to hate people smoking crack.
Even when my friend reached for the crack pipe, the dog would purposely obstruct them from getting the pipe. (it would jump up with it's front paws on the kitchen surface and wouldn't move - manifesting a barrier between them and the crack pipe).
It also used to act very distressed & make 'concerned' whining noises if anyone was toking on a pipe.

Nah, I'm a meth user... while my cat seems to be constantly nodding or something. :)

Haha I can relate. I used to take Zolpidem nightly and would toke up. My cat would always hang around me more, I noticed. It was as though she knew I was feeling good and that I would want to give her a nice massage and scratch.

I'm no doctor, but I would guess this kind of thing cant be good for a small animals health. I have never done it, and I wouldn't do it intentionally.

As someone studying pre-vet I would definitely say you are 100% correct. We choose to get high, and know the consequences, animals don't. Grow the hell up. I take every precaution to make sure my pets are not getting high. You don't know how it effects their brain chemistry, or anything. Be responsible, pets aren't toys, they are living creatures. Ugh.

Neither do I, jar4ever, it's not like you're forcing them to. If you held them down & blew smoke in its face, different story. But voluntarily going up & sniffing the doobage, then it's the animals choice. They're smart enough to not get near it if they don't like it & if they do enjoy it, they'll stick their fuzzy little noggin right into the cloud of 'righteousness'...pro-animal choice.

If my sister didn't stop her 3 year old son from playing with her drugs and inhaling it, he would probably stick around too. But as a responsible parents (or in pets case, owner) you fucking do what you know is right for them, because they don't understand. You have no idea what the effects could be on them, and they don't understand that they are 'high'. Come on people. For real.

Having said that though, I have a stoner cat.

I used to live with my 2 best mates and we'd smoke a joint every night after work. My cat would constantly try to come over and sniff the smoke when the j was sitting in the ashtray! Cheeky fucker! We'd always shoo him away of course but he managed to actually get at it a few times when we had our backs turned, and he would be obviously stoned. He seemed to love it though. So against every moral fibre in my being, but pretty damn funny to watch :D (once we ascertained he wasn't in any danger)

Haha...years ago I had a cat just like that. She paid no attention to regular cigarette smoke, but weed smoke she was all up on. I usually ended up having to put her in another room while we smoked.

I had crushed up e on my table and my cat licked it when I was out of the room.
I felt so bad. She was jumping around attacking stuff onmy window that wasn't even there.
I force fed her water.

This happened twice.

Wow, dude maybe be a little more responsible and careful?

cats are so gross. they'll lick the butter too.

what are the best drugs for animal telepathy? I talked to my dogs with telepathy on dxm. but it required a dosing regimen that also made me think was a dog for like 2 hours so I think it was just a case of nuttiness. And the little dog had a voice like peter pan from an old disney movie.

I swear my ferret has been stoned a few times.

It freaks me out though, I don't like the idea of it attacking her little lungs, she's too precious!

My friends cat would always attack us, clawing at our legs and shit. When we were tripping on shrooms it was going crazy attacking us. We were convinced that it was posessed by the devil, and we started crying debating calling a priest to perform an exorcism. Crazy night.

My dog is pretty crazy, and the only time I got him to chill was when I blew smoke in his ear/face. I only did that once, and he just layed down. Another time I gave him .25 xanax but I dont think that it had any affect. He was only about 20lbs at the time, and continued running around acting crazy, it did not sedate him. I wondered if human drugs work on animals after I did that.

Come on people unless your pet comes up to you and says hey bro give me one ( it just means youve had enough) no really I think its fucked up giving a pet dope. I on one occation gave my moms dog a very small hit of heroin, the dog was 16 years old and had a stroke or heart failure any way it was in bad shape, I gave it just enough to make it relax and we took it to the vet and told the vet what we had done and he was all for it, he then gave it something to end its suffering. In my life I have done one break and enter (I never steal) the dog pound got my best friend, I went there to pay and get her out yet the asshole tells me we are closing come back tomorrow, I thought oh hell no is my friend going to spend the night on a cold cement floor, I went home got tools, broke in found her and walked out the front door, I fully expected the cops to come in the mourning and they never did, I still have never figured out why.

Pets named after drugs

My friend named his cat Ketamine, and I feel it's rather clever, it's almost cute! shes a girl and keta is good short, most adults don't catch on or have a clue and think it creative.

Has anyone else named pets after drugs ?

Back in my raving days I always wanted to get 2 rats and name them Smacky and Chargey.
We never did though...but it would've been cool to come home from a rave and spend the day playing with Smacky and Chargey =D
