watched 13th floor last night it was good, my kind of film if not a little predictable hah

I watched it totally in ignorance on tv in 2006 and didn't work out anything that was happening. Also I love Vincent D'Onofrio!
Since Park Chan Wook's new film is out I'll watch that at some point. Seen Joint Security Area,Mr Vengeance,Old Boy and Lady Vengeance all of which are really good. But no one ever mentions this one:I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK

I loved it. Although I have a thing about mental illness films and psychiatric units...having been in one and had all sorts of delusions myself. Some of the stuff in that is definetly based on truth, having known various schizophrenics and psychotic people since 2002. Suspect there are many people on EADD who can relate to the stuff in this film knowing how many of you have been off your faces on ket and psyches!

Black Dynamite

Just caught this last night and couldn't recommend it more!

This is the story of 1970s African-American action legend Black Dynamite. The Man killed his brother, pumped heroin into local orphanages, and flooded the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor. Black Dynamite was the one hero willing to fight The Man all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.

excellent parody of the blaxploitation genre, it's kind of what grindhouse was trying to do but so much better. The plot from just about every blaxploitation pic is mashed together in this hillarous film, ridiculous but played straight, the way a parody should be done. The dialogue and look of the film is very true to the genre, there's some amazing lines:

"The worst thing about these dealers getting children addicted to this new smack, is that these children are ORPHANS…. And orphans don’t have parents."

"Your knowledge of scientific biological transmogrification is only outmatched by your zest for kung-fu treachery."

"First Lady, I’m sorry I pimp slapped you into that china cabinet."

any film that has a huge dolemite style character having a 1 on 1 kung fu battle with richard nixon is automatic win IMO.

Probably helps if you've seen/are a fan of Dolemite/Superfly?Enter the Dragon and other films from the style and genre but my mate who i watched it with hadn't seen them and enjoyed it greatly also.

Not sure if this is appreciated in this thread or not but one new film to AVOID is

Zombieland

I enjoy the stupid Zombie /horror film when they are good fun (Shaun of the Dead etc) but this new one is rubbish, few good laughs sprinkled around but half of the movie has zero zombies in it - just turns into a typical awkward teenage love story.

I'd disagree and go as far to recommend zombieland, all the best zombie films focus the story on the humans and what happens to them rather than filling up with non-stop zombie fighting. Funny script, movie making cameo and all round fun, my only problem was that it was a bit short hah

2nd that. I think I already recommended it earlier in this thread. It was a decent enough zombie movie & set me off on a wee spree of watching dawn of the dead etc.

I watched that Black Dynamite film the other night. Absolute class, one the best comedy/spoof type films I've seen for a long time.

I'm recommending this, if anyones after a sort of crime/comedy type thing.

It's got Mike Epps, Mos Def & Avon Barksdale in it. What more could you ask for? lol

Yeah its fine to focus on the humans if they are doing something exciting/funny or even based on survival but this didn’t do either. This coupled with the fact that I was expecting a horror or Shaun of the dead style comedy left me pretty disappointed.

I quite fancy that paranormal activity move as quite a few people are saying it’s scary in the cinema.

I keep watching films that telegraph the plot even more so than usual.
Its no wonder people are so ignorant about films though, when you can watch 10 total no hopers from this century and think that they're good, If your 7.
I didn't really have much in the way of critical facilities till maybe 16, do remember so many males about my age being fixated with Stallone/Arnie and force feeding me the stuff and thinking it was wall to wall arse.
Maybe I should de-recommend a film!
Some holy fucking grail that'll get me shot at dawn from the people kicking my front door in:|
Something like Star Wars - A new Hope.
Empire was the first film I saw at the cinema and though I didn't understand it at all.....took watching them in the right order years later to do that......I still knew it was something amazing.
Jedi was good even if some cunt filled up the forest with stuffed bears:|
Eventually I watch the first one and since its the same plot as jedi I become very confused. A year later I probably watched all 3 over a christmas and finally understood them all....and saw all the holes and bad acting......and realised that the first was just plain bad.
Take some classic Japanese cinema and philosophy and knock some cardboard cuts outs together plus 2 gay robots who are the only good thing.

Or I could just state that I have never watched eps 2 + 3 as Ep 1 is the worst film I have ever had to sit through in a cinema. I'd rather watch Rocky 5 again:|

Finally saw Moon last night, really liked it :)

I did have some K which probably made me more absorbed than I would've been normally but if anything it added to the mindfuck and pure win of it all :D

Got it on my lovefilm list. Have managed somehow to read various reviews over the last 6+ months without finding out the plot.
Just for once being a total recluse with drastic inability to interact with any thing apart from a beetle has a slight upside:\:|

I used to have so many films/programmes/books wrecked for me by other people. One of the various reasons I am more misanthropic than Charlie Brooker:\

I fucking love that movie ^_^ I really liked the narration throughout it too. The film in general had such a strange air about it - the settings, that girl, it was all amazing.
His films are amazing, all of them. And I really can't wait to catch his new one. Looks top :)

Yea I really liked Zombieland too. Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson were both great in it. I really like Eisenberg. He can be a bit type-cast sometimes though.
Also, how hot is Emma Stone in that flick? ;) Rawr...
Plus, fucking great surprise to have Bill Murray in it! =D He was great.
I'm glad I didn't read a review or know anything about it before watching in that respect.

Yeah zombieland was really good. It was just quite fun to watch not an amazing film but certainly very entertaining.

I've never seen Human Traffic before 8o

.... have it in one hand and ILSA She Wolf of the SS :\in the other hmmm he said it's a historical drama :|

I choose :)

I'll recommend a few films I have watched recently

I'm a Cyborg but that's OK

im-a-cyborg-but-thats-ok.jpg

really enjoyable film about schizophrenia from the director of Old Boy and the vengeance trilogy. Saw it recommended in here and really enjoyed it. Funny, odd, heartwarming and violent all at once, despite it being a fairly whimsical and lighthearted film, there was clearly a good bit of research done about schizophrenia and the like.

Half Nelson

Half_nelson.jpg

Film about an inner city teacher with a drug problem who develops a friendship with one of the kids after they discover his secret. It's got a few of the kids from The Wire in it so the standard of child/young actors is pretty good but the class size is too small and the kids too well behaved for it to really feel like a tough Brooklyn school.

Entre les Murs

entre_les_murs.jpg

A much better attempt at showing an inner city school. Written and presented by a real teacher this feels a lot more genuine. There's no major dramatic loops or huge events it just tries to show a year in the life of a teacher in an inner city school. very good film.

and just because...

Bad Lieutenant

Already been recommended in this thread but it's one of my favourite film characters/performances ever, if you haven't seen this check it out now. The new version with nicholas cage looks proper gash, how can anyone stand nicholas cage?
