The Travel Thread - Second Destination

Got sent 200 quid/$277 from my girlfriend and have $95 left still :)

Yesterday was most likely the most stressful day of my life. I had to wait until 4pm VN time to get money as that's 9am GMT when post office opens, and in VN the banks close at 4:30pm. I then had to get to the booking office by 4:55pm because my flight departed at 5:55pm today and needs to be booked 24 hours in advance....
Got to the booking office at 4:45pm due to my bike breaking down, couldn't book tickets as Air Asia clocks must be wrong.
Took the risk of flying to Saigon and buying a ticket when the checkin opens, had to dash after getting my tattoos done on a mototaxi.. wish I had time to drive around Saigon myself, looks like a lot more fun than Hanoi and I won't feel guilty about the smoke bellowing out of my exhaust at the lights because you can already cut the smog with a spoon here.
 
So give me a run down, where has your trip taken you then?

Good to see it's all worked out OK in the end, I reckon you use that last $95 to get tanked up on booze! :D

Fuck you Bangkok your traffic is complete wank, I'll take Saigon or Hanoi or even 18 wheelers on the Hoi Van pass any day over Bangfuckingcocking traffic.

What should take 45 minutes from my guesthouse to airport (should have slept at airport, paid $30 for executive lounge at 4am (get my full 4 hours worth) but I left some stuff when I was first in BKK) took 1 hour 30 minutes because of an accident on the road.

I got to the airport 55 minutes before departure, 5 minutes too late. But the woman at the help desk said I could still make it if I run to check-in row E, so I did and when I get there it turns out my check-in row is row Q, right where I started, so I had to sprint back and by then they'd closed and no staff around.

Now have to find a cheap flight back to Heathrow, but I can't find any one-way tickets cheaper than my original return. What a fucking waste. Could have just spent another week riding my bike to Saigon then using the money I was so kindly sent to buy the ticket I need now.

Went to the embassy earlier, but I got there at 11:02, two minutes after closing for 2 hours.. fucking Thai's and their military precision timing when it involves fucking off for boom boom.

Why's it so hard to find a flight from BKK to Heathrow on sites like ebookers?

Found this lot in my insurance policy, anyone have any experience with shit like this?
 
"If claiming expenses due to missed departure, we require a written report from the public transport operator confirming the reason for your failure to reach your destination, or a written report from breakdown service if your own vehicle was immobilised "

I reckon my last $50 will get me a written report, don't you?

Unlucky. Use expedia instead.

EDIT: UK sites will charge you about 500 bills to get home.
 
Seems like my insurance only covers my outbound flight from England.

And it certainly doesn't cover my last flight returning home.. although my flight to Cuba is covered on this insurance so technically its not the end of my trip?

You might find some small print saying each time you enter the UK it marks a completion of a journey.

I'd be down the cop shop reporting your stolen bag containing several hundred quid and your camera.
 
Right I'm sorted. Spent a good few hours at the embassy making good use of the free phone and took a recommendation to see if the temple not so far away will house and feed me for a couple of nights :)

I'm not going to fly back tonight or tomorrow, even though I could as I've been loaned some money via WU. I'm going to make the most of this and get the train down to KL and then the cheap 99 pound flight from KL to Standstead a few days later.

Best to say I got it jacked off me walking down the street.. by ladyboys?

You silly boy though, surely you were well aware that Bangkok traffic is some of the worst in the world!

Where you getting a £99 flight from? Sounds extremely good.

If I was you I'd get that flight booked ASAP and make sure your there about 24hrs in advance knowing your luck because I envisage you ending up stranded in Kuala Lumpur and asking someone to send more money. :D
 
I'm looking at flights from UK to Oz now, tres expensive! Nothing cheap in sight for the time of year I plan to go!
 
The 99 quid flight is just a marketing technique, they have about 2 seats every 5 flights and they're all sold out for next 6 months.

Managed to get a one-way flight from KL to Standstead for 248 pounds including taxes etc with AirAsia, Spade, give that a look and get a cheap flight from KL to Aus.

At first I wished this was an April fools joke, but you live and learn and its making for some good stories, as you already pointed out :)
