The Travel Thread - Second Destination

And just think the whole trip nearly never happened when you were about 3 seconds away from missing your flight at Heathrow a few months back. :D

I'll look into AirAsia.

My mates recently booked flights to Asia, he's out there for 70 days armed with just £2k and plans to visit 6 countries which means about 11 days per country. Just saw his itinerary which includes just 5 days in Malaysia, 2 in KL and 1 in Singapore then the rest split between Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. All this travelling overland.

When did the object of travelling become solely about the travelling and rushing through a whole host of countries just to say you've been because that's about all he's going to have time for.

Hope he enjoys the 12-30 hour bus/train journeys.

I was going to do that, then I thought fuck it and flew to Hanoi. Big chunk of money gone but time is money these days, especially when no one's buying sofas.

Oh yes, fucking come on..!

Going to watch the Speed Zone Tour Grand Prix in KL and then there's a big free party after for ticket holders, Paul Oakenfield and Jamioquyiuyiqiye the only names I've been told of.

Sounds sweet man%)

I am still in Luxembourg. Got a part for my car this morning and its not fixed it. Maybe it will be fixed this evening. Or maybe not. Lazy bastard mechanics.

No fucking way am I coming back to the UK on Monday now. think I might take an extra week and go through Switzerland, North Italy, followed by a few days in Prague and then on to the Netherlands.

Luxembourg is fucking beautiful place though, and most of the living women here seem to be my type<3

hey man, see if you can include this in your route through north Italy:

i've never done it, but i fully intend to some time... %)

It was the distributor:!:!:!:X

New one winging its way to me for first thing in the morning. Dont have a room for tonight as the only hostel in the city is full and I had expected to be back on the road by tuesday night, so need to sort something out.
Smashing weather here though.

Smashing weather here too, it's fucking roasting in Edinburgh!

Hope he enjoys the 12-30 hour bus/train journeys.

I doubt he's even considered it. I'm all for travelling overland but you're guarenteed to burn out and get fed up of it all when your spending so much time on buses / trains. And how do you see a city, let alone a country in 1 - 3 days. I asked him if he planned to spend any time relaxing and / or enjoying himself and he reckons that's not what travelling is all about. Somebody should have told me! :\

What would you do...

Fuck off to Oz at the first opportunity, which will be August / September time, basically whenever I've £4k saved up, enough for 4 months out there without work I reckon.

Or

Grind it out here a bit longer, which I'm loathe to do as I'm in a rut and bored out my nut with work and lack of excitement, in order to save a more substantial sum of money and support myself for much longer.

Need to bare in mind once I've done Oz I'll be coming back to no money, will have to go back home and stay with my mum (staying with my mum is great but being in Scumdee will be torture, I can't stand the place). Ideally I'd like to put this off for as long as possible. :\

One of my friends from my old work at the charity fundraising call centre got a working visa by transferring to the Sydney office, why not extend your charity work, even if you don't like it, it will look good on your CV.. like your volunteering.

If I was you, I'd save up 2/3k not including flights and get a flexible part time job. I'm thinking of taking this club rep job in Hoi An. Shitty pay but they house and feed you and just give a small wage so you can do what you want but not enough to save up.

We certainly don't have a Sydney office though the charity I volunteer for apparently operates out there. That could be worth looking into.

How do you mean 'extend my charity work'?

I'll have £4k saved by end of August and planned to go out then, I can spend 2 / 3 months in a mix of travelling and chilling then settle somewhere and try and get work if I want to spend more time in the country.

What would your club rep job involve?

I'm in a cheap hotel. I was under the impression driving in here that this town was a hotel and a few shops. It was dark and I was stopping cause I was drowsy as fuck.

Went out to walk a spliff - and the place is fucking huge, streets and old shit and loony drivers. I got lost:D Walked about five miles in a stoned state. Got back just now and nearly knocked over the manager on the stair<3

I didn't get to do that pass yet. I'm about two hours away in the hills somewhere north east of it. I really should not have driven after Zurich as I had been done eight hours already.

After I got fucked by Obama in Strasbourg I crossed the border and travelled through germany where convoys of coppers and cars and buses all flying flags were being rushed through traffic. Saw a few wrecks on the other side of the dividers on the Autobahn.

The Autobahn is shit though, because even though on the autobahn I topped out my car often enough, I covered much more ground in Switzerland by everything always moving at 55 -75mph instead of doing silly speed for 30 seconds every couple of minutes.

It's much easier to drive anywhere I have done in Europe than in the UK or Ireland

I still need to decide where to go after I drive the pass tomorrow. Probably Milan and a hostel - but I want to see Prague on Sunday night, so maybe a quiet(er) night in Trento which is closer and would only leave me an optimistic three hours from Prague on Sunday. Plus I like the look of it.

Yeah , it was on top gear Ufo. Best driving roads thingy, I saw it online and assumed it was ages ago.

^ go down to Lake Como or Lake Garda. it's fucking stunning there. everywhere you look is a perfect postcard picture. we all regret not stopping there on our last bike trip, what a waste. :\

do it. :)

hey, i hope you're taking some video clips of you hanging round the stelvio. lift off oversteer will be your friend, haha. :)

Sounds like your having fun jude, road trips sound like fun! Guess if I ever want to do them I'd need to learn to drive. :\

some of you might remember that B****** A****** lost my main piece of luggage before I went away the last time, so i had to make do with only 3 pairs of pants etc. for the whole 4 weeks.

the last time i spoke to them, i asked them to keep the case at my local airport, where i would collect it on my return. shortly after that, cletus found the case in question lying outside my front door.

so i thought i would phone them today to ask where it is (no proof of delivery!) and lo and behold, they think they've still got it. there will now ensue the most extravagant claim for that 'lost' piece of luggage in history.

i really missed my caviar-encrusted solid gold alienware laptop and 3 kilos of pure cocaine, yeehah! :D

Incompetent cunts they really are, and then they just dump it on your front door, great idea! 8)

Get everry last penny from them mate, they gave us hundred and odd quid when they forgot to load our bags on the flight to Bangkok, we were only without them for 24hrs and knew they were coming.
