^ Yep, because I'm sure all of the above artists gave their consent to have their music featured on that mixtape.

Ive been listening to bits and pieces off the new Yeah Yeah Yeah's album on the J's. It sounds pretty good so far ! :)

Is that sarcasm I detect?

Would that be illegal for him to make that mix, advertise and promote it and make it available for download? What about when someone is sampled when they are producing beats?

Sounds like he is a Scratch DJ and he has mixed parts of those songs with some extra beats. What about Girl Talk? Does he have to pay royalties to the artists he samples??

What about podcasts of radio shows made available to download? Don't the artists get a royalty every time one of their songs are played on the radio? Are those DJ mixes from radio programs illegal?

Yes, it's sarcasm.

No, I'm not answering every single question you've asked as anyone with a klue (see what I did there?) would know what the deal is.

DJ Danger Mouse wasn't making any money off The Grey Album, yet he was asked to cease and desist as he didn't have publisher consent.

If someone is sampled when making a beat for commercial use, the sample has to be cleared with the publishing house. That's why the amount of songs that use a beat with a sample loop is much smaller compared to the golden age of the early 90s when the current sampling laws weren't in place.

People usually turn a blind eye to mixtapes as no-one makes any money off them; they are just there to create awareness for the artists in question. Unless permission has been granted to use those songs, however, it's illegal.

Cool, thanks for the reply. I Googled around a bit before and read the wiki page on mixtapes and a few pages talking about litigation surrounding them. I'll read that page later :)

I have only been seriously downloading lots of stuff the last few months since I have had broadband. That Hood Internet site you posted a while back is great, I didn't realize it could be illegal.

I bought maybe 100 cd's last year, I wouldn't even consider downloading pirate stuff :)

Current song: Size of the soul - Muph n Pluto

INXS - Beautiful Girl

I <3 INXS. It's definitely the bogan westy in me coming out to play. INXS is still on high-rotation in the pubs where I grew up.

From doorway to doorway
Street corner to corner
With neon ghosts in the city
And she sings

Stay with me

Feist - I Feel It All

Feist kicks my ass back into reality all the time. She's lovely.

Can I know more than I knew before
I know more than I knew before
I didn't rest, I didn't stop
Did we fight or did we talk?

Oh I’ll be the one who'll break my heart

Cloudkicker - The Discovery LP

Anyone after some brilliant metal, intelligent, hard, and melodic, check out this guy. I say this guy cause the "band" is actually one guy laying down guitar, bass and programmed drum tracks on his own (yes, instrumental).

He's getting himself out there and known by offering his tunes for free. Download the album, and a new EP, here: http://cloudkicker.uk.googlepages.com/

I just brought Silverchair's Frogstomp and Freakshow albums. Rocking out to 90's Aussie teen grunge.
It makes me wish I was 18 and not 8 when I first fell in love with them.

geez, hope you don't download this preacha, it may not be copyright released

I do have to admit that I'm listening to this song - 'Riverside' by Sidney Samson. It really gets the 18yo's moving at the bar though ;)

I also recently rediscovered this song - 'Rippin Kittin' by Miss Kittin, and I'm liking it a lot.

hardstyler99 - the Hard NRG albums are a fav of mine.

Oasis - Don't Look Back in Anger

This was the first band I ever really fell in love with. I even got excited when I was watching The Bill and I saw an Oasis poster on the wall of a teenage criminal. This love was fairly quickly squashed when I was in year nine and they cancelled their concert because they're a bunch of angry, fight-y fuckers. I still love them, but I will never forget how they broke my 14 year old heart.

Take me to the place where you go
Where nobody knows, if it's night or day.
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a Rock 'n Roll band
Who'll throw it all away

yeah they're absolute wankers but they have made some decent stuff

-leonard cohen - stranger song

I met a woman long ago
her hair the black that black can go,
Are you a teacher of the heart?
Soft she answered no.
I met a girl across the sea,
her hair the gold that gold can be,
Are you a teacher of the heart?
Yes, but not for thee.

I wasn't the one claiming I didn't download copyrighted music illegally.
Besides, considering how overplayed all of those throwback tracks are, I'd be wasting my time.

Jaz-O ft Jay-Z - The Originators

Unlike this. Jay-Z's first video appearance from 1989, 7 years before his debut with Reasonable Doubt. One of the tracks that popularised double-time flow, plus his cadence is massively different.
