Recommend another good movie per post

I've got that one my lovefilm list (along with 700 other films), it doesn't get a very good rating though but I've too liked the other Van Sant films I've seen (Milk, Elephant and Paranoid Park).

Since we're talking Gus Van Sant, then this is his best film. Its in my top 10 favourites ever:D.
Also it is highly recommended viewing for all substance consumers;).Might give you some "bad" ideas though;).

Watched Three Colours Blue last night, pretty dull unfortunately.

Looking forward to Ill Divo this weekend, I hope it doesn't turn out to be another Gomorra!

What are you going into these films expecting? Its a Krystof Kieslowki film, beautiful and dark....and slow moving. One of the best directors ever.
Maybe you should stop watching art house films.:p
You'd be up shit creek with a Theo Angelopoulos film and no mistake.

I went in expecting an enjoyable film that's all I ever ask from a film to be enjoyable, in my eyes of course. I'm not interested in films being 'arty' unless they are arty and enjoyable to watch.

It wasn't a bad film but it was just a bit boring for me. I disagree on one of the best directors ever based on what I've seen so far (just Three Colours Blue I think but have the rest of the trilogy on order and some other titles) it's all well and good making a film beautiful, dark, slow etc but if it's not entertaining or watchable then the director has failed miserably IMO. Why not combine art and entertainment, that way you'ld have an exceptional film.

Hmm,well there are many films that are an endurance test. They aren't set up to be enjoyable.Film is art.How many people can stand looking at every piece of art Jackson Pollock made?To most they are just a bunch of pieces of paper with some paint thrown at them....yet they are still art and no less valid than a Turner or Constable painting.
I have a very large feeling you would hate Metropolis, even though it is one of the most important films ever made.IE its black and white and silent.

I probably would but I'll rent it and give it a shot. Black and white plus silent is a sure fire way to put me off.

For certain you would hate all Jean Luc Godard films. They are endurance tests.I watched a bunch in school when I was watching/taping everything not in English...wait I'm still the same...

This would be THE nightmare Spade film.;)

The idea of a film being something which you have to 'endure' seems wrong, aren't they supposed to be entertaining on some level?

Well I did mostly film studies at University and most people were like you. They got bored to death and hated 80% or more of the films shown.Different things are entertaining to different people. No doubt there are people in this world who watch Weekend and sit around stroking their beards discussing it in depth.Just like there are people who read James Joyce for fun.
Just as many people despise subtitles and on Lovefilm give anything not in English 1 star. These people are cunts and should be garotted;)
Another anti-Spade film -

I love films but would hate to do film studies and start watching films and trying to analyse them and stuff, would ruin the enjoyment factor personally.

Films for me are pure entertainment, that's not to say I like watching mindless, obvious, done a million times before shite like Slumdog Millionaire, Benjamin Button, The Reader etc.

Mostly involves Frenchmen looking moody and chainsmoking from what I recall, Whore. Good film - should get around to watching it again sometime :)

BB: Enough guice down the hatch and who knows what could happen? :D;)

Herzog do it for ya? One of my favourite "arty" directors :)
