Good Documentaries

Sent shivers down my spine, it really did. Especially the couple arguing, fighting and screaming at each other down the street - so many memories of the nearly Mrs Shambles. The one who nearly was, as opposed to the actual Mrs Shambles which are dotted around EADD and much saner :).

Great doc, but hard watching in places.

Watched Dope Sick Love last night, they should use clips from that documentary instead of David Mitchell's voice on a dog to keep kids off drugs.

Pretty grim. But good.

Expanded basic

post links to torrents, rapidshare and streaming vids, want to watch something good tonight.

I'm in to most things, war, drugs, history, Louis Theroux, etc. I will watch it as long as it is good :)

hit meh!

You can get expanded basic cable tv which will give you the Science channel, History International, The Military channel, National Geographic, etc. Nat Geo just did a new special on Marijuana this past Tuesday, followed by a methamphetamine special, and a heroin special. Then you can watch the new documentary 42 ways to kill hitler and a documentary on the falklands war of 1980, Battle of Stalingrad, etc. Its worth the extra $10 for expanded basic for all the documentaries you get.

The English Surgeon

I started a thread about it ages ago, just after it had been screened. Truly moving stuff.

The Amen Break - just watching now. Fascinating stuff. Had heard of "The Amen Break" (basis for a million and one top tunes and entire sub-genres) before but never knew the specifics. You'll hear it and think "Oh yeah! I know that break - that's where it's from!". I did anyway. Well worth twenty minutes of your time :)

i've watched that vid a few times heh, i love the amen break <3

Bit of a classic indeed, Evad. Amazed me to realise quite how often it's been used - really is ubiquitous now. Hard to imagine a world without it in fact. I also like the way he describes Squarepusher as pretentious, chin-stroking, drum-fetishism that's impossible to dance to. Don't agree but it did tickle me :D

3 years without food and water?
LOL=D
If I could manage to eat only once a fortnight I'd drop some tonnage alright.Bring the Budhism!

As a drummer, I don't understand the big deal about the amen break.

Then again, it could just be cause I'm so used to hearing it/playing the same beat, I never thought it could have been "created". That probably makes no sense, I'm mentally handicapped.

Think that was the point, Whore. It's everywhere now - standard drum break that's so well-known you barely notice it anymore - but someone, somewhere created it and the drummer on that Amen track is apparently the fella. Or at least created the version of it that's been sampled a bazillion times and is probably something that every drummer has as part of his repertoire now. I am also mentally handicapped so that may make no sense or just be complete bollocks though.

Nah it makes sense :) I just see most standard 4/4 beats as things you can build upon and it almost just comes naturally to play that beat. I'm self-taught though, perhaps dmt4blood can expand a lil :)

I've got loads of documentaries. Some of my favourites would be:

Scratch
- The history of turntablism, DJ Shadow etc. Hip hop geeks. ace

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0143861/

The Power Of nightmares
- Seriously good doc about how politicians use fear to gain the confidence of the masses, relates heavily to september the 11th. Everyone should see this doc, if only for the way it shows how the radical islamists and the neo conservatives come from basically the same ideologies- being against personal freedom and liberal values.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430484/

No End In Sight - The unbiased and shocking truth about The Bush Administration's total fuck up of Iraq

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0912593/

Cane toads
- hilarious and bizarre/

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130529

I watched that cocaine cowboys aswell the other day, an amazing story. The background to Scarface

Some linkies are allowed and some linkies are not allowed, Fix. Tis a quagmire of confusion, to be sure. As that's such a recent fillum and that site has fucktons of copywrite material on it it's probably a linky best snipped in this case, though ;)

EDIT: Ohh! It's a Herzog one. Yum :)

Will give that a watch sometime. Through entirely legitimate means in no way connected to the linky that is no more, naturally :)
