TV: The Sarah Silverman Program

So I take the shows I listed are on par with two and half men and you're rather not waste "typing power"?

No, I love The Simpsons and I love Curb. Early seasons on both shows, however.

I am not going to argue with you because what is the point. You don't like the show. All I can do is say we aren't trying to "shock." There are shit jokes on it, there are vagina jokes, there are jew jokes, there are jokes about dogs, about dead dads, about lisa loeb, about abortion, about lemon bars....

The list goes on.

My point is don't relegate our show to one thing. Or try watching more of it. You seem stubborn and little uninformed a little bit.

Racism is a quality. Racism is art.

ooooookay.

Are you 12 years old? Open your mind for just a second and then you can go back to shitting into your father's mouth or whatever you do for fun.

If you are arguing that racism isn't built into society you are lying to yourself. It is everywhere and our country was founded on it. It is art's job to explore society. Racism being part of society, that is included. Take it or leave it. Now then, continue to give AIDS to your cat.

^ Yep. Definitely a writer for the Sarah Silverman show. I can tell because I see you're trying hard, but I'm just not laughing.

My point is just because it's a part of society doesn't mean you should encourage it or make it seem acceptable. There are a billion and three ways to be funny, condoning racism shouldn't have to be one of them.

Good god, we get it. You don't like the show and think it's racist. Move along.

I take it you've never laughed at a single racist joke in any show at any point in time? There is plenty of comedy made from stereotypes and racist jokes to varying extremes and I highly fucking doubt you ride your moral high horse past them all. You cite old school Simpsons as one of your favorite shows, well, how about the racist stereotypes and jokes perpetuated throughout the series? Is your finger always on the fast forward button?

The discussion in this thread so fucking cyclical and asinine it makes my head hurt. 8(

Good god, we get it. You don't like the show and think it's racist. Move along.

What the fuck? Move along? This is the SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM thread!! What the flying fuck are you talking about "move along"? What else are we going to talk about? Basketball? Jesus christ what a fucking stupid comment that was.

I'm just giving my opinion on the show. I respect others opinions. Laugh at what you want to laugh at, I could care less.

The whole racist or not racist issue is a moot point that was only brought up just recently. I really don't care about that.

I'm not the only one who dislikes the show. I'm just the only one who seems to take issue with the fact the few who DO like it choose to pretentiously look down on those who don't. This is the only thing that I find fault with.

Anyway, I've said what I've needed to say. I believe both sides have made their cases.

Just respect others and their opinions, that's all I have to say.

How is it "condoning" to make fun of racism? It's like protesting it through comedy. Not everything has to be done with picket signs and a straight face. And I agree with finder, Krusty the Klown is the jewiest guy in the world. And making fun of mexican television??? How dare they!

Look, maxpowers, it is fine to not like someone's comedy because you don't think it is funny. But dont cite bullshit reasons like racism shouldn't be dealt with in comedy. Who put you in charge? The comedy governor?

Now then, you can continue eating tapioca pudding out of your mom's butt hole. That's right. You are visualizing it now. I win. Realllly think about it all up in the crevice of your mother's grey balloon knot.<-----didn't try hard at all!!

For the record, it was alasdairm who brought up the topic of racism, not I. ;)

You've responded like a broken record to this thread 23 times. Twenty three. That's fourteen more responses than the next highest amount. That was my point.

I'm just giving my opinion on the show. I respect others opinions. Laugh at what you want to laugh at, I could care less.

I don't think you've displayed any respect for others opinions nor that you "couldn't" care less.

The whole racist or not racist issue is a moot point that was only brought up just recently. I really don't care about that.

Yet you mentioned racism twice and failed to respond to my question about the Simpsons. You know, if it's all hate no matter how you paint it.

I'm not the only one who dislikes the show. I'm just the only one who seems to take issue with the fact the few who DO like it choose to pretentiously look down on those who don't. This is the only thing that I find fault with.

I thought you found fault with LOVELIFE's opinion of the show being good and pretentiously looked down on it.

Just respect others and their opinions, that's all I have to say.

It's a two-way street. If LOVELIFE is of the opinion your taste is shit, shouldn't you respect it? :)

I don't think you've displayed any respect for others opinions nor that you "couldn't" care less.

While I haven't agreed with them, I think I've done a fairly good job of respecting their opinions. I haven't suggested anyone is somehow less intelligent for not sharing my views. Others have.

That, I do care about and take issue with, as you can see by my posts.

Yet you mentioned racism twice and failed to respond to my question about the Simpsons. You know, if it's all hate no matter how you paint it.

Again, while I have mentioned it a couple times just recently, racism has never been the point of the conversation. But since you bring it up again, I'll address it.

There are varying degrees of being non-PC. With the Simpsons, I never thought, with regards to race, they ever took it as far as other shows do. I fail to see how Krusty or the Bumble Bee man were blatantly racist. If you can find any other examples of them being inappropriate, I'd be glad to hear it.

I thought you found fault with LOVELIFE's opinion of the show being good and pretentiously looked down on it.

He can find the show completely hilarious, that's fine by me. But when he tells me it's over my head, that I must not "get it", that I'm inferior because I must work some white collar job where I slave away in a cubicle from 9-5 and he points out he doesn't . . . that's what's not cool with me.

Where have I been pretentious? I never hinted I was better than anyone.

It's a two-way street. If LOVELIFE is of the opinion your taste is shit, shouldn't you respect it? :)

Again, I do respect it. I just don't agree with it.

Listen, this thread could be about The Simpsons. I could be the one saying it's great and someone else could be saying it sucks. These parts are interchangeable.

The reason I've been posting so much is because the select few who actually like this show think they are better/more intelligent than those who don't and that shit gets me going.

Not that it bothers me in the least once I click away from this thread, just when I open it.

The "select few" who actually like this show ARE more intelligent than those who don't, in my despicably-unhumble-in-your-opinion-opinion.

Does my opinion that, as a general proposition, people who appreciate Shakespeare tend to be more intelligent than those who don't appreciate Shakespeare bother you too?

"Funny you should should ask, Conan - but it just so happens that I *WAS* in attendance at the Academy Awards last weekend.

And what a special night it was - Denzel Washington and Halle Berry BOTH winning Oscars on the same night.

What an incredible achievement for African-Americans.

I mean - think about it - how long ago was it in our society that a black woman would have gotten ARRESTED merely for driving a fancy car in an expensive neighborhood?

Into another car, and then driving away."

- Sarah Silverman, sitting panel, years before you probably even knew who she was.

Please, MaxPowers - for the love of the God who may or may not exist:

Constructively criticize *THAT* BRILLIANT "racist" joke, if you will.

Yes, comedy is subjective, as is all art.

And if, hypothetically, you were of the opinion that Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro and Ed Norton are/were shitty actors, then without respect, I would be of the opinion that your opinion is shit.

Does my opinion that, as a general proposition, people who appreciate Shakespeare tend to be more intelligent than those who don't appreciate Shakespeare bother you too?

I never liked Shakespeare, and I don't agree with your opinion. But it doesn't bother me....I'm far too secure for that. :)

Well, I respect you, I respect your opinion, AND I respect your intelligence.

And I never said anything about LIKING Shakespeare - I was talking about APPRECIATING it, and I might have been more accurate by saying "People who UNDERSTAND Shakespeare . . . "

And, in any case, unlike some people in this thread, YOU, Mariacallas, know how to disagree without being disagreeable. :)

Shall I compare you to a summer's day, Mariacallas . . .

Peace,

LL

LL - Of course I don't get that joke. I'm not a (OMG!) professional comedian, nor am I an elitist New Yorker, so I'm definitely not smart enough to get it.

I do think its really funny that your "opinions" (that you try to push as facts) are as ridiculous in comedy/art/entertainment as they are in sports.

Maybe next time you're in the green room with legends like Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor you guys can write a joke about that, since you've tried to make it so evident that you chill with the world's hottest comedians. The fact that they're dead won't affect your delusions of grandeur, right?

=D

I find her extremely obnoxious. Her humor is on par with those idiots form Jackass. She thinks the more vulgar she is, the more funny she is. I think not, horseface.

^ i DISagree, good buddy. putting her in the same category as the douches from jackass is a tremendous insult. those guys are all dick and fart jokes, she's got story lines that are actually funny (to me and LL anyways).

i really don't understand why more people don't seem to like her show. the overly cheesiness is obviously intentional (which i KNOW for a fact a lot of people overlook, not talking about anyone here, people IRL) which i suppose you either like that or you don't, i think it's funny. the plots are often about little things on a grand scale (overexaggerated every day life). and the thing that i love the most is her attitude. her arrogance, self-centeredness, cockiness, etc. all crack me up because i often act the same way jokingly.

and if that means more people DON'T want to hang out with me in real life... believe me, you're only doing me a favor. :D
