TV: The Sarah Silverman Program

Your pretentiousness is quite laughable.

Maybe one day you'll get your head out of your arrogant ass and realize not everyone finds toilet humor funny, no matter how it's presented.

You are not above me. You are not better than me. Money is not what should be used to measure what a person is worth, contrary to what society leads you to believe.

I could care less how much you make or where you live or what you do for a living.

The attitude you've demonstrated in this thread tells me all I need to know about your character. You could have Bill Gates' net worth and you'd still be a pompous snob. But if you feel it makes you "better than the average Joe" . . . hey, whatever helps you sleep at night pal.

Maybe one day you'll realize everyone is an individual. We all aren't supposed to be robots who like and dislike the exact same things. It's called taste. Something that you seem to lack.

Go back to the ostentatious circle jerk from which you came from please.

I usually disagree with Maxpowers. Hes said alot of shit about me n generally the weather forecast between us calls for a high percent chance of flames. But You LL....Man......It is just funny. Me n him can certainly agree when it comes to you.

You relaly, truly believe the shit you say, and thats wat makes me feel so bad for you. I didnt even have to read your whole post (actually, my stomach prevented me from tryin since the high level of smugness n self satisfaction that oozes outta there woulda had me throwin up) but my point is, I didnt have to read the post to know wat youre saying next. Cuz I know and max knows and every poor piece of shit who ever had the NERVE to disagree with you knows. Youre better than us.

Better than me, n him, and everyone else. Your self-given status means that we all want to be you. Taste is just a illusion. I dont know it yet,and neither does any other poster here, but we would rather be a wannabe comedian grinding the same stages and shitty audiences night after night, braggin about how god damn prestigious we are to people on the internet. Its the life we would all want for ourselves....ya know....if we would just admit that we envy you. becuz like your tastes, its inarguable. You like it, which means we MUST like it and desire it. no questions. anybody who disagrees is in denial.

You constantly talk down to people and treat them like shit verbally for the offense of disagreeing. You write like you got someone behind you sayin "GET EM!! GET EM BOY!!! YEAAA GET EM!!!" every time you make a post. Not eveything is a competition and not everything is fuckin objective. We have all heard about your "the greatest comedians of all time agree on everything I say so it must be true" thing. So save yourself the trouble of writing that one out again. is it ever possible for you to stop bein a pretentious pompous condescending know it all, or did you pop out the womb insulting your mothers taste too.
Lovelife. Better than you since 2000.:|

Lacey, I've been better than you since far before 2000, but unfortunately, without Bluelight, before the turn of the millennium, I have had absolutely no way of communicating that to my minions.

Have an enjoyable Saturday night, Lacey.

Truth is, over the past couple of years, I have actually grown to respect you.

Because when I make an assessment of someone, I make it based on ALL of their posts - not just the ones with which I disagree.

I don't think I'm a better person than you or than Max or than anyone, based on the fact that I'm a "wannabe" comedian (if only you knew) who is fortunate enough to lead a happy balanced life in New York City.

I think that I'm a better person than you because I'm Jewish, which is empirical evidence that God Chose me over you.

You know that song "Play That Funky Music White Boy?"

I *LOVE* it.

In fact, it inspired me to write my own song.

It's called:

"Do That Statistical Analysis, Puerto Rican Teenage Mother Of Six."

To Life, To Laughter, To Disagreeing, To Learning, To Smoking Weed, And To This Beautiful Community, Where We Can All Agree To Disagree On Certain Issues, And Still Be Bluelighters Together.

Respect,

LL

I don't really see what that has to do with the Sarah Silverman show.

Bottom line is that you can get Roger & Ebert to tell me all day about how a movie is "quite exquisite" and it still won't mean jack shit to me at the end of the day if I don't like the film.

I've read several reviews from many music critics raving about an album, only to listen to it for myself and loathe it.

Now, that's not to say I never agree with these views from time to time because I do. I don't disagree just for the sake of being a cynic.

Comedy shows are no different.

And I seriously doubt every single "professional comedian" (I scoff at the title since you don't have to do it for a living to be funny, but that's a different story) puts her on a pedestal like you're doing.

Well, you can keep speculating while I am telling you what I know from first hand experience.

There are I go bragging again - what a prick I must be, Max.

And, NO, you don't have to do it for a living to be funny.

But you do have to be AWFULLY funny to make it to the tippy-top (in terms of your peers' respect, especially) of this extremely challenging albeit rewarding business.

ahem.....now a message from our sponsor.

Hey guys,
I used to post here back in like '99, and then my name got de-activated somehow and then I just lurked. But I had to re-register to jump in on this conversation.

I am a writer on the sarah silverman program. I appreciate all the positive and negative feedback, except when it involves not liking her cause she is a jew. That is a litttttle suspect. Kinda invalidates an opinion.

I can say from the writer's room standpoint, we NEVER try to "shock" just to shock. It is never discussed once in the writer's room. We never say "hmmm what will be most outlandish thing we can do this week!???"

There are about 6 of us in the room and we are very close friends and we just do what makes each other laugh. A lot of people hate it and a lot of people love it, but that is art.

Anyways, I love mushrooms. Enjoy your lives.

If anyone has any questions or would like to have an actual discussion about the merit of our show, feel free. Thanks!

-Harris

Mr. Harris Wittels . . . if that IS your real name . . . I hope that you can agree that if someone were to find the show unfunny it is NOT because it is somehow "above their heads" and that we are all entitled to laugh at whatever the hell we want.

No!! You laugh at what I tell you to laugh at!

Yes, of course. There is a chance it is not "over your head."

Out of curiosity, what shows DO you like? Trying to argue the Sarah Silverman Program against someone who likes Two and a Half Men is a bit of a lost cause. So before I waste my finger energy... max powers.. the floor is yours...

I'm glad you acknowledge this fact and simply don't dismiss my opinion instantaneously like Lovelife has.

As far as what I enjoy watching, MTV's The Hills is amazing. The dialogue between the main characters is evokes a feeling of joy and youthful exuberance you can't find anywhere else.

No, seriously though. Old Simpsons is my favorite show ever. Curb Your Enthusiasm. I like the writing on "The Soup" does that count? Rocky & Bullwinkle.

wasn't this already a thread like, months ago? that one must've gotten off-track early too.

so since this one's already derailed, i'm name-dropping kathy griffin as funnier than sarah silverman. there. i said it. shock, no-holds-barred, intelligent current event humor. but tell me she's not a "real comic" though, lovelife.

i'm a big mr. show fan ans sarah silverman has been on my radar for ages. i tracked down and watched 'jesus is magic' and had very high hopes as it is directed by liam lynch (who gave us 'sifl and ollie').

i was really disappointed. it just wasn't that funny to me. also, i find she does a lot of racist material in a style which implies she thinks it's ironic, but it's just plain old racism.

^ well said. I'd hardly call myself pc, but racism is hate no matter how you paint it.

So I take the shows I listed are on par with two and half men and you're rather not waste "typing power"?

Sarah has constructed an alter-ego for her stage act. She is doing a character that exists in pretty much everyone, of wanting and trying to be a good person, but there is a degree of selfishness and inherent racism in a lot of people. She is doing an exaggeration of that quality people have. She, as a person, couldn't be more accepting of people. We cast black people on the show all the time, and they are wayyyy more cool with her jokes than you (an I'm assuming white person. could be wrong.) I guess what I am trying to say is LIGHTEN UP!

Sometimes it is ok to show racism in a comical way. Look at how many "racist" things Michael Scott has said on The Office. It is poking fun at the issue. Doesn't mean Steve Carell or the writers at the office are racist, does it? It is art.
