I was born in East Texas and have family there. It's the only accent I can accurately mimic. I was raised on the west coast and have the "default" American accent which is just boring/bluntly overpronounced English.Nearly broke a rib laughing at this as it's so true.

Last time I went down there 10 years ago you could go to any pharmacy 5 min from the border and buy vials of ket, benzos, oxy, whatever. But they don't really do that anymore particularly near the border. Especially for gringos.

As a Western, English person I believe I'm at best Shadow boxing with the faith till I've been to Mexico, walked to the famous shrine in Barrio Tepito etc, Juarez is RAW as fuck and something in me wants to see it.
I'm personally good friends with an Anthropologist who's not long back from another trip to rural Oaxaca where she lives off-grid with a family of Brujo & Bruja's, I chat in my bad Spanish to the 2nd daughter who's a very powerful Bruja, I've been asked to visit their village and I can stay in their hut, work in the shrine with them, learn more about Brujeria from her etc.
