Diet Veganism made my addiction and recovery WAY harder than they should have been

I wish that I could say something to shatter this stereotype of vegans being a bunch of brainwashed, cultish, preachy, delusional weak freaks. If you met me in person, then you would see that I'm none of those things.

I respect everyone's opinion though, so please don't think that I'm arguing with you. I just feel that everyone should have the right to do whatever works for them, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. I don't believe that there's any "one size fits all" approach when it comes to nutrition, or anything else for that matter.

My 89 year-old uncle has smoked 3+ packs of cigarettes a day since he was a teenager and he's still in good health, but a good friend of mine died of lung cancer when he was only 47.

Some people need detox, rehab and sober living to stay off of drugs, while others do it just fine on their own.

Wishing everyone health and happiness,
Dreamflyer

I'm sorry. I't was kind of awful.

Just wanted to write a cautionary tale for addicts who are vegan or thinking about going vegan, from someone who did it for over 10 years. VEGANISM IS A SCAM. And no, i was not "doing it wrong" lol there is just no way of doing it right, maybe you wont notice the damage when you are young and ur body is practically bulletproof but i'm in my late twenties looking like i'm bloody thirty-five, and it's 90% because of veganism. They might have convinced you with one of those HORRIBLE documentaries about animal cruelty, telling you that going vegan will save the planet and the animals, and your health lol none of it is true, you should be against factory farming and unnecessary animal cruelty, not against something that humans need to thrive, which is eating animal products. You can only survive for so long eating damn plants before all kinds of health problems or even death if you happen to be an infant, happen. No bloody plant will ever fulfill and nurture you like meat does. Oh, but if you or someone you know got sick, you were simply "doing it wrong" hell, if doing it wrong has the risks of losing your hair, acting like a psychopath, getting wrinkles and cracks in your skin, feeling like shit all day, muscle and joint pain, etc, maybe it's not such an ideal diet like everyone tends to think... I'm just pissed that it took me so long to get rid of it because believe me you are never full no matter how much greens you eat, we are not freaking rabbits, and my recovery would have been so much easier and faster without that stupid enormous sacrifice i was doing. I always wondered why my friends who ate junk all the time and did more dope and less excercise than me were so much more energetic and strong than me. Well there it is. Fuck, those 10+ years were such a waste, i kept drooling at lunch watching my family eat gulash and borsch while i had a miserable raw potato. No shit i aged so fast and lost so much strenght in such little time while working out like a maniac 5 hrs a day. Dont even get me started with "vegan athletes tho" thats another illusion. I just wonder why no one ever said shit to me while watching me slowly kill myself? Maybe they thought i knew better cus i spent so much time reading about it yet never got results. It's such bullshit and some malnourished little vegan is prolly reading this and thinking i'm nuts, because "there are no ex vegans, once you go vegan u never look back" lol, 80+% of vegans go back to meat, there are more ex vegans than vegans and if your shitty eating disorder is so great, why would that even happen? Forgive this pointless rant, i just wish to save anyone from falling into that dumbshit, ignorant self-harm. Veganism is a scam and if you are a recovering addict, go fucking primal and eat only beef, eggs, raw milk, greek yoghurt and FRUITS!!! But grains, vegetables and SEED OILS are anti-nutrients and will fuck up your gut. You'll be alright, and so will the planet.
Honestly I think you're exaggerating
to begin with, "veganism" is a modern trend, well, a contemporary trend. VEGETARIANISM has existed for millenia, and without any serious health problems when done right, yes, you need to know how/what to eat.
I have diabetes type 1 which makes everything much more difficult, since I tend to burn fats and protein (muscle) when my blood sugar doesn't burn from lacking insulin, so that makes my self-management much more difficult than most people and surely much more than regular vegetarians.
Veganism makes no sense when you can eat proper aminoacids having some cheese or specially EGGS. I don't consider cruelty to have some chickens and get their eggs, they may be "stressed" but we are ALL stressed just for existing, at least you can take care of them and try to cure their potential diseases, all that..
Myself, being more than +15 years vegetarian I had 0 health problems, nada. Once I was a bit defficient in iron, I supplemented for a month and everything came back normal... I tend to supplement with herbs cause I love herbalism, so maybe that helps, considering that a lot of medicinal herbs are rich in micronutrients and minerals.
You know what happens? probably the big difference between me and you, apart of the health problems is that I don't give a fuck about meat, I dislike a lot meat, never like the texture nor the taste, in fact my mother needed to "dress" or "hide" the meat taste with a lot of sauces, then I liked it a bit, but prefer whatever else.
I think you feel frustrated so you need to charge against veganism (which is actually a trend, probably a dangerous one for quite a bunch of people), but one could be perfectly healthy without eating meat.

Nice. Aint it crazy how intense their brainwashing is? No matter how much someone would explain to me that it was basically the norm to eat animal stuff, i would discard whatever they said because i was convinced that the world should go vegan. Stupid....

I honestly don't care what people do to their own bodies as long as it doesn't affect my life. The only time I care is when people force veganism on their children. I think that's child abuse because it affects their development.

I don't know too much about veganism , is it , but it is interesting to hear about and learn of it.

It just really shouldn't cause a political uprising lol in my thoughts and feelings about it.

Anyway I like to focus more on eating from the basic food group categories with veggie's maybe
as the large percentage of the basic food pyramid.

And portion control helps so much and also one particular substance won't accumulate in someone's metabolism..

The balance helps tremendously with digestion. Portion control is important in calorie intake.

Anyway cutting back on portions with the basic food groups (pyramid) work really well.
And then you don't have to worry about having too much of any one portion.

Omg. What am I writing, on a drug forum. !!! he he.

Anyway I couldn't commit at veganism when I was using opioids because then is when I was very aware of
how important eating in a healthy way really does have relevance to health for my choice of best available nutrients
and consumables. And qualities.

Eating in the most mentally healthy way does give an optimum outlook on life skills and choices.

I'm not vegan any more. I WAS for 9 months but I have a looooong history of anorexia and I unintentionally lost 15-20lbs in those 9 months and the weight loss triggered an anorexic episode so my doctor strongly advised against trying any type of restrictive diet.
Hope you're feeling better now. Yeah, some of us have health conditions that unfortunately make it hard to pursue the lifestyles that we want to.

I've always had naturally high levels of iron in my blood (hemochromatosis) that made it dangerous for me to eat red meat. Even after being vegan for a few years, my iron is still on the borderline-high side.

(That's not why I went vegan, but it's definitely an added benefit.)

Stay Healthy,

Just to report that I had blood analysis due to my annual diabetes check (Hba1c) and the results include a bit of everything, immune system, thyroid, kidneys, urine, liver, cholesterol...
so then, everything came PERFECT, I mean, not a single bad thing, and my Hba1c was 6.4 which is pretty good considering I had diabetes type 1 for 30 years...
IME vegetarianism is nothing to worry about in terms of health. I was worried because I had covid some months ago and before that I used some stims, binging a bit, but nah, all came perfect. Also vegetarian since +15 years ago, as I said.
I also thought my kidneys could be working not so good due to taking too many supplements, but I guess I did ok enough.

Yeah thats my point. This idea of heaps of meat or no meat seems to be where a lot of peoples heads are at. Its neither. We shouldn't eat too much meat and too much = what most people who eat meat, consume. Based on what I've seen many eat, my estimate is 'half that shit'.

I know what you mean regarding being grossed out. An easy way to reduce that feeling is to include these other parts of the animal in dishes that aren't 'direct' IE like a steak is just.. steak. As direct as it comes. For something like liver or kidneys, adding it into a meat pie means you don't even notice/feel/taste it in particular but you get the goodness of it.

As for green vegetables. I don't eat them for nutrients. I eat them for fibre and flavour/texture. I can't say why others do or don't eat them but thats my reason. I've never considered them particularly nutrient rich.

Regarding vegans. Yeah, I don't bother. Like I say, they are essentially lost to a cult. I don't know what it takes to get them out, I've only seen people stop themselves - not because of what others have said or done.
It was kind of a miracle that i stopped based on evidence because, like you said, i was also lost to that cult, so much that i would reject any evidence that went against it... Only when my health went to shit i started to listen, and sadly thats one of the biggest reasons vegans stop.

Not at all, i have nothing against vegetarianism, and yes, of course i am frustrated with that stupid vegan thing gaining popularity when all it does is the opposite of what it preaches! Destroys the planet, kills animals, preys on people's love and empathy while destroying them, and they want the whole world to be vegan?!? Of course i dont like it. And no i dont think eggs are cruelty, eggs are awesome.

Fuck...those vegans as i know even not consuming honey.....'cause it "rapes"the bees or something simmilar idiotic-I heard this from vegan🙄😂

yeah, I agree that's pretty stupid, that's one of the reasons why I never thought of becoming vegan,
not eating dairy makes moral sense (because you "must" kill the calf, most of times) but the honey thing...
come on! give me a break....
And no i dont think eggs are cruelty, eggs are awesome.
eggs are the best! Choline source by the way
Fuck...those vegans as i know even not consuming honey.....'cause it "rapes"the bees or something simmilar idiotic-I heard this from vegan🙄😂

Well, that is exactly what vegans want... To force the entire world to go on their shitty diet. And right now they are not just killing babies and children left and right by doing so (i was just reading TONS of articles about infant deaths by forced veganism) but they are also killing their pets, especially cats, so thats another huge issue i have with vayganism
This is the kind of stereotype that I wish I could shatter. My best friend is the biggest carnivore on earth, and we goodheartedly tease each other about it. He says that he wants to order me a box of Omaha steaks for Christmas, and I tell him that I'm going to sneak tofu into his morning coffee shake.

I would NEVER try to "force the entire world to go on my shitty diet". It breaks my heart that there are so many preachy vegans out there that give the rest of us a bad name. I choose to be a vegan; you don't. End of story. No hard feelings.

a miserable raw potato
raw potatoes are poisonous, you supposed to cook them first.
why no one ever said shit to me while watching me slowly kill myself?
You haven't tried talking down a vegan before then?
go fucking primal and eat only beef, eggs, raw milk, greek yoghurt and FRUITS!!! But grains, vegetables and SEED OILS are anti-nutrients and will fuck up your gut.
Good to know you're done with the fad diets and weird rules for eating

I say that as a former vegetarian, I applaud your failure and mine, lets be healthy murderers for ever after, I'm having grease dripping Angus burger tonight. 😁

Fuck...those vegans as i know even not consuming honey.....'cause it "rapes"the bees or something simmilar idiotic-I heard this from vegan🙄😂
I should introduce you to a vegan beekeeper I know, it's confusing o_O

I think it's better to eat meat from happy animals because they had happy chemicals running around their bodies, got to be better consuming those than miserable ones. So I'm all for free range, organic, giving them cuddly teddy bears on a cold night, but not eating them at all, like @strangeaeon says, is risking your own health.
