Coronavirus lockdown

I don’t know if it a stupid thing to say but I don’t buy anything from China again if I can help it.
fuck China lol
Fuck the eu too. We see how they got on after all this

When (if) we get over this, there are definitely lessons to be learned...

yeah, don't let the Chinese eat bat chow mein any more...

After the first SARS outbreak in 2003 viral experts said it was only a matter of time before more coronaviruses jumped species as long as the Chinese government allowed the live exotic animal wet markets to remain operating with such atrocious sanitation and conditions. They were ignored. The WHO had called on China for years to ban the wet markets, but they were ignored.

In the early weeks of the outbreak the Communist Party covered up the extent and severity of Covid-19 and silenced whistleblowers who later died.

Now China is attempting damage limitation by donating us face masks and ventilators.

A reckoning with the Chinese regime must happen when this is over - they are responsible for thousands upon thousands of deaths and global economic chaos. Don't let the SJW's say it's racist to blame the Chinese govt for this

I bet you've been happy to stuff your face with Chinese food on many occasions in the past? Perhaps you're the super spreader..?

Looks like we're in for the long haul. Stay safe everybody

I'm definitely not buying Chinese brands again and I know for sure I'm not the only one. Smashed my Huawei into the ground and got a Samsung instead. Felt like a nice symbolic gesture.

I'm not stupid enough to think I can avoid anything made in China completely, but I can avoid Chinese brands and I will. Others are going to do the same and this won't soon be forgotten.

Related I have noticed Chinese brand phone companies like Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi have ramped up their marketing recently, they must be feeling pretty desperate for sales.

Yep let it be known that the CCP destroyed the first research into this virus and attempted to cover it up for almost a month. If the world had known just three weeks sooner, cases could have been reduced by 95% and geographic spread limited.

I do not even think it is SJWs in this case. I think they're being used as pawns since they will latch onto anything they can call racist sure, but the pro-China message is being driven by CCP propaganda, which China is actively spreading on social media.

Example:

China desperately wants the world to think the virus did not originate in their country. They're telling people the US caused it, they're telling people to doubt claims it came from Wuhan, and of course they will play the race card. It's pathetic and anyone with two brain cells to rub together should see right through it.

I suspect the CCP is relying heavily on the 50 Cent Party for this right now.

Oh and the N95 masks and COVID-19 test kits China sold Spain and the Netherlands turned out to be duds which had to be recalled. Chinese engineering!

I don't quite follow. I know that China isn't the most democratic of counties, but you've all been happy to lap up their mass produced cheap shit thus far. Plus you're all happy to call Ling Plong Flongs on a friday night to stuff your fat titties on deep fried meat of indeterminate nature. China isn't the only country that has shocking hygiene standards - have you ever seen a McDonalds kitchen? I rest my case...

You think I actually eat the shite they serve at McDonald's? Nah mate if it ain't Michelin star I ain't showing up.

Seriously though I will have the odd Pizza Hut especially after a fat spliff but I don't sink as low as Mucky D's. It just tastes like cardboard.

As for China it's very much an emotional rather than a rational thing. Objectively China has been doing bad shit for ages as I said. Human rights abuses too numerous to list, IP theft happening constantly (most often not publicly disclosed), propaganda machines running there and abroad (China practically owns Hollywood), the social credit system is the latest proper scary one... all sorts goes on.

The reason this is different is because it's not so easily put out of sight, out of mind. It's easy to forget things when they're happening in another country. You read an article or see it on the news, contemplate how sad it is for 10 seconds then move on with your life.

COVID-19 is not like that, it's gonna affect the whole world forever at this point. And as we speak people around the world are dying or losing jobs.

It is not abstract, it is a matter of our own lives. It's not just "oh China has death camps, read it in the news, they're bad... but hey their factories are cheap." It's now people seeing first hand the damage being done to their own families. It will change perceptions big time.

I'm looking at this as an analyst would. Said a few pages back I'm looking at the markets right now. Stock market is pretty much all emotions and not very much about facts and figures because it's driven by people. Those people also drive consumer spending decisions. They will be turned away from Chinese brands. That's my prediction. It could be wrong, but I think there will be a significant hit on China for this.

After all there's a reason they cared enough to cover it up in the first place and a reason they're even using their diplomats to spread propaganda and shift blame to the US. They care about this so much because they know that any damage to their reputation in any way that Western people actually care about will damage their economy and they can't have that. If they are not the world's factory they have no money, no leverage, no power.

Ultimately that's what it comes down to. On our end, first hand experiences leading to emotional responses and realisations of just how bad China is. On China's end, this is a battle to maintain their power and wealth. China knows very well just how important propaganda is. They cannot lose their reputation, it is everything.

On an unrelated note reckon I'd go viral (no pun intended) if I got a pile of Chinese phones and strapped them to fireworks?

Well if everyone boycotts China for their iPhones , I'll be happy....

Businesses have been wanting to get away from dealing with China for a long time, not least due to IP theft. This will accelerate that move. Manufacturing will move to other cheap countries like India faster than it was before.

To give a real example of how bad the IP theft is, Samsung spent 10 years and billions of dollars developing a folding phone. Chinese companies stole their technology and instantly came out with their own products. That's why Huawei has a folding phone at the same time as Samsung. The tech was stolen.

China allows this because they do not respect foreign IP. Chinese officials also frequently hack foreign companies to steal trade secrets all the time. Any big company that sends people to China will give them burner phones and burner laptops that are never used to hold sensitive information for this exact reason.

I love my iPhone. I’ve also probably spent best part of £300 on random shit I think I need after a few beers on AliExpress, bloody love that website. It’s the only website that shows you a cock sleeve, nipple tassels and a grenade all ok the same shopping page.

It isn’t going to stop be buying shit from China, what is going to stop be buying shit, is if it’s no longer cheap.

I'm very happy with my Samsung. Thing has a giant screen, two day battery, four fucking cameras, a fingerprint scanner under the screen, it actually has a headphone jack in 2020, and it is fast as fuck. Got it for about £300 brand new. Only thing it's missing is wireless charging, and it's got a plastic back instead of glass, but who gives a shit?

Over the years I've spent grands on Aliexpress. I bought most of my tech off there. When Apple and Samsung had the cheek to start charging £1k for their flagship phones I moved to the Chinese brands. Same specs for half the price. I was smart enough to replace the software with a custom ROM so they couldn't spy on me, but now, no more cheap Chinese tat for me. I already moved back to Samsung because they are competing very well with the Chinaphones. But I'll happily pay a premium for a proper brand in the future if need be.

I used to have every flagship phone going, had all the Samsung’s since the Samsung Galaxy S2, the HTC Desire and the HTC Desire HD, had Google’s Nexus 4 (still the best phone I’ve ever held in my hand), most of the iPhones (3GS, to my current 11 Pro Max) and everything in between.

Current phone is a beast, the battery can easily last me a couple of days, even with heavy use, the camera is amazing 4K native photos and video, only downside is the cost. Most expensive phone I’ve purchased (to date).

I think with most phones being made from parts manufactured from every corner of the globe, cutting off China is akin to saying you’re only going to breathe air that’s made in the UK.

Pretty much the same here I've owned a huge list of phones over the years. I even had the HTC G1, first ever Android phone, and most of the iPhones from the 3G onwards.

The HTC Desire HD was the best phone of its day by far. But the one that sticks with me the most was the Nexus 5. That thing was just all around brilliant. Kept it for years which is saying a lot coming from me.

Samsung Galaxy S4 was pretty decent too but to be honest I had a few problems with it whereas the Nexus 5 never gave me any trouble even though the Sammy was about £200 more expensive.

Regarding China like I said it's impossible to completely avoid anything made in China or containing parts sourced from China, but I can and will avoid Chinese brands. No more Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc etc. And I have owned multiple phones from each, mostly bought off Aliexpress, in fact I still have three Xiaomis, a Huawei tablet, and I gave my girlfriend my OnePlus 5 about two years ago (stuck LineageOS on it though).

The big hit will come from companies moving their manufacturing more towards other countries. They have plenty of existing reasons to do so, just ask Samsung after their foldable display tech was stolen. This will act as a catalyst to speed things up.

Samsung of course already does most of their chip fabrication in their home country of South Korea and their final products are made all over the place. Just checked and my phone was made in Vietnam while my telly was made in Romania.

Anyway. I'm just making predictions. We'll see what actually happens. But I might look into up and coming Indian manufacturing companies, see if any are trading publicly so I can put my money where my mouth is.
