2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Yeah a republican congressman says the aca is unconstitutional, the supreme court said it's just dandy.

Why is the fuckin heritage foundation-written, republican sponsored Romneycare suddenly evil and OMG socialism! doomed to fail when the black democrat says let's do it?

You know this is the heart of the problem. Human beings misunderstanding and writing off other human beings as “the enemy”, as “just bad”.

There are a million justifications people use to excuse their poor actions towards the poor and disadvantaged. Thinking they should die cause they’re poor isn’t one of them. It’s bullshit you use to justify dehumanizing them into “them” as opposed to “us” so you need not spend too much time understanding what they really think. Which is exactly what they’re doing too.

Believe whatever you like but all I see is two sides of the same coin here. It’s the same extemist bullshit we have used to justify killing each other since forever. We have evolved to do it. We need community to survive. So we need reasons to be loyal to our community and to conform. A great motive to be loyal is to have enemies and a great way to foster conformity is to find ways you’re different to your enemy. So we can all bundle together into groups that hate each other. You see it manifest in every aspect of human society since the beginning.

Donald Trump says congresswoman 'totally fabricated' his comments to fallen soldier's widow

By Emily Sakzewski

United States President Donald Trump has denied telling a war widow on her way to meet her husband's casket that the soldier "knew what he signed up for".

Sergeant La David Johnson, 25, of Miami Gardens, Florida, was killed in Niger earlier this month during an ambush carried out by Boko Haram and other extremists linked to ISIS.

Congresswoman Frederica Wilson was riding in a limousine with the soldier's widow, Myeshia Johnson, and her family to meet the casket at Miami International Airport when she overheard the President's call and what she described on Twitter as his "insensitive comments".

"Basically he said, 'Well I guess he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurts'," Ms Wilson told CNN.

"I heard what he said because the phone was on speaker."

The Florida Representative said Ms Johnson was already distraught, particularly after hearing the casket would be closed.

Mr Trump says Ms Wilson's claim is fabricated but is yet to provide evidence.

He was one of four US soldiers killed when a joint patrol of American and Niger forces was ambushed by militants believed linked to the Islamic State group.

"This is a young woman who has two young children, who is six months' pregnant with her third child [and] she has just lost her husband," Ms Wilson said.

"She was just told that he cannot have an open-casket funeral which gives her all kinds of nightmares of how his body must look, how his face must look. And this is what the United States President says to her?

"That is not something you say to a grieving wife."

Ms Wilson said Ms Johnson could not say anything in response to the President because she was crying.

"There were other family members in the car and they were all crying," Ms Wilson said.

"All she said when it was time to hang up was 'thank you, goodbye'."

The congresswoman's reaction to the call was to take the phone and "curse him out", but she was not handed the phone.

When the limousine arrived at the airport to greet the casket, a sobbing, Ms Johnson and her two children awaited the casket, alongside various local officials and law enforcement officers, who were on site to pay their respects.

Ms Johnson lay across the US flag draping her husband's casket, sobbing uncontrollably.

Niger ambush could be Trump's Benghazi, Wilson says

Ms Wilson said there are still questions about Sergeant Johnson's death that are yet to be answered.

"[The family] don't know why he was separated from the other soldiers," she said.

"This could turn out to be another Benghazi, and I have asked for an investigation.

"We want to find out exactly what happened and I'm expecting a classified briefing when I return to Washington to answer some of these mitigating questions that I can't answer on my own."

Ms Wilson said Sergeant Johnson, who mentored in her dropout prevention program for boys which she founded in 1993, was a hero in their community.

"There was no reason for the President to be so insensitive, not only to the family of this soldier, but the impervious rhetoric is disrespectful to the family of every soldier that has paid the ultimate price of freedom," she said.

Trump boasts he calls families where Obama, others did not

The call came after the US President falsely claimed his predecessor, Barack Obama, did not contact the families of US troops killed in the line of duty.

The claim drew a swift response from Mr Obama's foreign policy adviser Ben Rhodes, who said it was "an outrageous and disrespectful lie".

The President made the claims in response to questions about why he had not publicly spoken about the killing of the US soldiers in Niger two weeks ago.

"If you look at President Obama and other presidents, most of them didn't make calls," Mr Trump said during a news conference in the Rose Garden with the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell.

"A lot of them didn't make calls. I like to call when it's appropriate."

Soldier’s grieving mom confirms: ‘President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter’

The mother of Sgt. David Johnson said President Donald Trump disrespected her slain son during a widely publicized phone call.

Cowanda Jones-Johnson was present when the president called her daughter-in-law, Myeshia Johnson, during the ride to greet the slain serviceman’s body, reported the Washington Post.

The call, which was taken over speaker phone, was overheard by Rep. Frederica Johnson (D-FL) and a county official riding in the car.

“President Trump did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband,” Jones-Johnson told the newspaper.

The soldier’s mother declined to elaborate, but she told the newspaper that Wilson’s account of the conversation was accurate.

The president disputed Wilson’s account Wednesday morning after she appeared on MSNBC, and he claimed to have proof.

But the lawmaker stood by her account of the conversation and told CNN she had proof.

trump really knows how to pick his battles, doesn't he? such a warm, charming, erudite fella.

this administration has been a disaster from day one, but it really seems to be coming unstuck.

^ hmm. who to believe? the most pants on fire lying douchebag president of all time or the pregnant widow and other family members of a dead soldier.

alpha_centauri, you were concerned earlier about honoring soldiers. do you feel this is honoring a dead soldier?

i am sympathetic to your position but how would you characterise the republican's plan for healthcare (based on the bills they've tried to pass so far)?

because, to a lot of people (including the cbo), it looks simply like a $400b tax break for incredibly wealthy people paid for by removing healthcare from tens of millions of less well off americans. there's surely a massive disconnect between what trump said he'd do on the campaign and what he actually wants to do now in office. how would you suggest we find common ground here?

im not trying to say its a good thing im trying to say it happens. i was a meth addict for years and believe me i never felt powerless unless i was sober. when your up you use that energy to help control. you literally percieve everything and use it as power over everyone else. you find thier fears thier insecurities and you use them. im not proud of it either im clean now and hate all the things i did while i was using lost my best friend and the love of my life. its far from a good thing. it makes you a monster. sober i see how wrong everything was and how selfish i was. when i was high i enjoyed it. trump does the same thing if he cant persuade you hes going to try and intimidate and coerce you until you concede. he doesnt know the meaning of compromise.

Even if I wasn't inclined to believe Rep. Wilson (which I am) does anyone believe that this behavior isn't totally in character for him? He doesn't give a shit about anyone except himself and MAYBE his kids.

The last few days have been the most disgusting of my life. I just don't see how anyone can give him the benefit of the doubt at this point.

I would characterize it by saying people find reasons to think whatever is good for them is the morally correct thing to do. And this kinda dehumanization and discounting what other people really think is one of the best tactics people use to do it.

Along with letting yourself believe that they could have healthcare if they worked for it like I do so why should they get a free ride blah blah so on so on.

The common thread all these methods tend to have in common is they all are ways to justify not having to really understand people and what they feel and think. People tell themselves ?I already understand what they feel and think? even though deep down I think a lot of them know there?s probably a bit more too it than people being lazy or evil or heartless.

The irony is all this kinda shit is what makes all of us so similar rather than so different. I doubt any group of people isn?t comprised mostly of people doing it. Once you know what you?re looking for you see it everywhere.

You see it in the liberals and the conservatives. Rich and poor and in between. Black, white, etc. I make a conscious effort not to do it and it?s a lot of work and I still probably fall into the trap sometimes.

Thing is, I?m not really saying all groups of people are equally bad and equally assholes. That is most certainly not the case. What I?m saying is you won?t generally find a group of people where they are just bad end of story. In every case there is a lot more to it.

Funny thing is, people generally recognize how their own groups are misunderstood and how complex they really are. While still not seeing it in how they think of groups they aren?t a part of.

I find it amazing after 147 pages there is still to this page almost nothing but crying and snarky obvious statements that are nearly a year old, this has become an echoplex forget a echochamber.

Anyone here have any clue on unemployment claims for last month???
Lowest in 40+ years

Isis is running scared and abandoning territory, helps when we don't have an muslim extremist sympathizer as commander in chief.

The stock market has hit 30+ all time highs this year alone.

Do you not remember the god emperor saying countless times that he was going to be the greatest jobs president?

Where are your priorities?

I'd especially like to know from all our foreign critics, where are your priorities, why do you care so deeply about the politics of a foreign country, is it because it is so trendy, is it because it has become a multi billion dollar enterprise, is it because you wouldn't be breathing right now were it not for our countless dollars and lives paid, what exactly makes you give a poop?

I never hated Bush. He was a suckass president, but I couldn't hate him. Cause I honestly never thought of him as a bad person. Just a stupid one.

I hate trump. He's a horrible person.

Because Trump sent 4,424 Americans to a desert hellhole to die, because Trump sent 2,386 to die for natural gas and heroin industry in the most unihabital part of the world that bankrupted Russia not 20 years prior. What life have you lived where an internet troll/POTUS is "horrible", but a man who's family personally profited off of the mass careless deaths of it's own citiens, aman who started office with a projected surplus and left office worse off in modern histrory, a man who let his friends destroy the real estate market and turned 100's of thousands of families bankrupt or homeless is "suckass" and iyo "stupid"?

Either you are not old enough to of given a crap about politics in the early 2000's or your feels matter more than logic.

Come back to reality and adjust your priorities.
?why don?t you leave? is such a lazy cop out.

i?m a u.s. citizen and the u.s. is my home. why should i leave just because the president is a douche?

alasdair

Alasdair is the kind of people we want immigrating, it's the penniless homeless, TB infected, extremist psychopathic, non-integrating sloths that we want to gtfo.

I was very young during the iraq was years yes, but I gave a crap. (My age is part of my public profile)

I don?t think it should matter though. I wasn?t alive at all during the Nixon years but I know enough history to have an opinion.

You don?t have to have been there to have an informed opinion. By that rationale there would be no point studying history whatsoever. And studying history is extremely important.

With your attitude though I have no interest in discussing this with you further.

Please elaborate
Well golly, the post I was referring to disappeared. Pretty sure it was Mr centauri talking about "groups". Or was that you Dave, and you rewrote it?

Ok I'll respond to yours: yes I remember the early aughts. The US straight-up invaded and occupies still two sovereign nations that had nothing to do with 9-11, gave gov. powers to listen to your phone calls and suspend your constitutional rights, and ended with a global financial crisis that's still lingering. (and is how I got fucked).

Eight years of Obama ends with an economy running smoothly, I get healthcare, and he actually got the guy who paid for 9-11. Didn't start a single war in the name of Jesus. You can even still buy a GM car if you wanted to.

Republicans hold two branches, and that caused a stock market surge. Well yeah, that's who they really represent--wealthy speculators. They hope to get rid of some rules that slow them down. So 2008 can happen again. Yay fuckin stock market. Rich gamblers, not a measure of the economy.

Could it perhaps be my post you were referring too? It’s still there it didn’t disappear, it’s the second last post on the page before this one. And I did use the word “groups” a lot. I had considered that you might have been directing it towards me but I dismissed it because if it was referring to my post I would have mocked you for totally missing the point. And I didn’t wanna do that unless I was sure you were referring to me.

Well you'd have to be under eight not to have been alive in the aughts, and that's pretty young for bl.

Trump helped the marketplace in healthcare, allowing my employer to buy insurance in a group with others across state lines. It sounds good to me.

How do you like your state insurance regulations no longer covering you?

Because that's what "buying across state lines" means. Insurance could always sell across state lines. The Republicans just want them not to be held accountable to the laws of the state they sell insurance in.

Trump's economy just started we will see how well it goes next year. Current indications point towards a recession though. Obama was a great president he left office with the highest approval rating of any president of the modern era. Trump can't stop tripping over his own dick and has the lowest approval rating of any president at this point in his term ever. I think that speaks for itself tbh.

It's funny I live in Alabama after the election all you heard was MAGA blah blah blah. I haven't heard any of that in months. The local talk radio idiots don't even mention him anymore all they talk about is how persecuted they are even though they control all 3 branches of government. It's so bad that the Republican senate race in bama is tied between Roy Moore and the Democrat Doug Jones. Tied in a republican +14 state! The Republican party is in full panic mode right now. And Muller hasnt even brought the hammer blow yet. Trump may destroy the US but he will destroy the Republican party.

I take no Glee in that because we need 2 functional parties. I hope it brings real reform
