Saying the left really lost the election assumes that people were making a free choice with access to true information, as opposed to being deluged by expertly crafted propaganda, almost entirely from one side of the debate - and the small amount on the other side were just as corporate friendly ultimately (unsurprisingly, being the corporate-owned guardian (don't give me that trust bollocks, they've been 'guardian trust PLC' for years now)). The 'enemy' is not the tory party or any of their voters in particular, it's the 1% (more like 0.01% really) and their corporate media - we're just mules or useless eaters to them.

Jonathan Cook puts it well:

Without most of the media on your side, no party stands a chance of winning because the media subtly controls the narrative of the election: what count as "the issues", how the leaders and their platforms are presented, what and who is considered credible.

More lefty whinging here from media lens. This isn't bad losing cos i'm not labour and was saying this sort of stuff since about 1992 (getting my bad loser in early ;))

...

EDIT: If people voted for policies the result in england would be Labour 24%, Green 21, Dim Lebs 21, UKIP 17 Conservative 15 - so roughly 2:1 'lefty' to 'righty' (depending how you slice the dim lebs (with a rusty cheese grater preferably)) https://data.voteforpolicies.org.uk/countries/results#countries/england

Priti Patel, staunch supporter of the death penalty, will replace unemployed former Employment Minister Esther Mcvey it has been announced today. Patel has previously said that she supports the reintroduction of capital punishment as a ‘deterrence’, although she would not say whether she preferred hanging or electrocution. Wanting to bring back state executions is only half the story of her malevolent past however.

day 3 and the arseholes keep coming out of the woodwork.

Oh I assure you it is. There can be more than one enemy you know.

Are you sure you're not MI5? As well as racist. :)

I meant in the sense of the real enemy. The party certainly represent the 1% (0.01%, you know what i mean) and contain quite a lot of them, but then there's all the members of the 1% who profess to be (nu)labour or some other sell out pretend social democracy party - if we cut off the tory party head, another would spring from the 1% hydra like, with whatever rhetorical clothes it thought would suit its aims - i guess i'd just rather see it in terms of class than some weird shifting political/cultural definition.

Plus there's all the tory party members who are just normal-ish people who've been deluded into thinking their interests coincide with the 1% because they own a couple of houses or run a crappy small business - they're more the people i wouldn't want to call my enemy (sorry to insult any tory readers: this is all imo obviously - i'm sure your reasons for your alleigance are just as heartfelt and thought out as anyone's). As for the floating voters who'll go either way for a few baubles come election time, they don't count as enemy either (or anything really, except through the lens of FPTP).

I've even got a couple of friends who are tories (see, i'm not racist ;)) - we just don't go there too much, or mutually keep the topics personable.

^this.

Hey, before you MI5 racist fuckers get carried away, look where I chopped off Vurtual's quote. I did that for a reason.

I too have Tory friends. Well, the LibDem Tory variety. Who were determined to vote in the election. So I got them to vote Plaid Cymru. Coz I'm a cunt. But a nice cunt.

And at least I'm not racist. :D

In other news...Plaid Cymru have just taken over mine (and Vurts) council (with support from Independents) from Labour.

Blame it on the Welsh.

Go the plaids. They've swung more to the left side of their heritage recently and it's for the better (they were always a coalition between a radical/lefty side and the nationalist/saesneg mas side from the start). Leanne doesn't even speak welsh.

What a clusterfuck of a result, even for a racist like myself.

This country is fucking doomed unless you are hideously rich.

Who are these idiots who voted en-mass for this???
