Just tried to PM someone and got this message:

xxxx has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove xxxx
from the recipient list and send the message again.

The first bit is self explanatory, but under what circumstances might someone not be allowed to receive PMs ?
 
I was thinking greenlighter at first but most of us who have been around for this long know this about greenlighters. Certainly FUBAR would so thought it must be a BL'er that's being PM'd.
 
I'm saying it's probably left over from those times, not that FUBAR is trying to PM a Greenlighter. Which would work in any case, unless they'd chosen not to receive PMs, or maxed out their limit.

I can't imagine any other use for such a facility. If somebody were found to be sending naughty PMs, surely they'd be banned, rather than having PM privileges suspended?

There is a profile setting that changes who you will accept PMs from, I think you can have, site staff only, only people on your fwends list or all and sundry, I;ld check but I can't be arsed:D
 
I just got a political flyer through my door from CISTA. Never heard of them before. I usually just bin these things until I noticed the word Cannabis. *Raises eyebrow* Seems there is a political party trying to legalize cannabis. Nice one, I'm not allowed to vote but hey, nice try people. Keep up the good work.

Allein's right. Remember Marmalade wouldn't accept PMs for awhile. You can accept PMs from everyone or from moderators n Admins only.

Disturbing? I'm an immature guy in my early-mid (okay, mid) thirties. If I happen to encounter an intelligent, interesting, stimulating young woman whom I proceed to find out is in her late teens, and in the course of time we accidentally hit it off in a massive way, is that disturbing?

I speak purely hypothetically, of course. ;)
