There is an intended way, a utopic ideal; where people love each other. Boys as brothers, girls as sisters. And true love is reserved for one special soul mate. And the basis for this love is CARE.

Some Christians, caring, between 1927 and 1961

A Catholic archbishop in the Republic of Ireland has said the church has no records about the burial of nearly 800 children at a mother and baby home.

The remains were in a disused concrete septic tank at the County Galway home.

The home was run by nuns of the Bon Secours Sisters.

800 children, murdered, because they were born as 'bastards' out of wedlock.

Fuck your Christianity. Fuck your 'rules'. Fuck your Bible.

OMG I'm a mam n I find that extremely upsetting. How could anyone hurt or neglect an innocent child? Children are vulnerable n need to be protected n kept safe at ALL times.

I class myself as a Christian n pray every night but I don't try to push it on people or use it to be stereotypical of anyone. I've always believed in Jesus n God n always prayed n prayed been answered.

But there are faith n religion are different. For instance, one can be religious about Manchester United. Faith is believing that an entity exists regardless of evidence. Example of faith: I believe in God n that he has answered my prayers n listened to them. Others could dispute this with scientific evidence but if I've faith I believe despite that.

And yes God has not always answered my prayers because He knew that that it wasn't right for me. Examples: I begged God to let everyone off my ex' case, that "we were
Meant to be together" n that "everyone else was wrong," that I'd "fight them all to the bitter end" even tho I knew deep down that my ex never loved me, was a master manipulator of vulnerable women among other things. I eventually came out of denial n "took off my rose tinted glasses"
My child is now living in a happy n safe environment. I believe that God helped me with that by not giving me what I wanted. He helped me because my child is still with her man now n I never lost her.

Do you think got helps starving children by not giving them food when they pray for it?

The best thing Faith ever did was lend it's name to a George Michael tune

I don't tell people TO believe in God so I expect the same respect in return. Please Don't try talking me OUT of believing. I can't answer that question, PTCH. I've had all those questions before from my family who are atheists. We just agree to differ.

Evey

I'm not trying to talk you out of believing, I am trying to understand your belief.

Admittedly I'm doing it in a bit of a dickish manner, but if you believe in something extraordinary that belief should stand up to simple questions.

If I said "All cars are blue. I believe this because I have a blue car" then my mate said "What about that red car over there?" I would say "Shit, I guess I was wrong" not "DON'T QUESTION MY BELIEF!".

Silly example but it's the best I've got right now.

Raas: You conceeded that god had to give a primitive message (kill the homos) to the desert people in the old testament, which was then refined in the new testament. Maybe the message still had to be primitivised even then (quite 'primitive' time/place) and that jesus/god expected later people would use their common sense and update it when it became obvious (like the buddha said (ta ptch)).

I think it's just mad to get hung up on obvious anachronisms in the bible - alongside what i consider the nice stuff of the bible is a whole load of obvious cultural baggage from a nasty patriarchal society, amplified by the later mysogyny of medieval europe.

And saying it's alright for christians to talk the way they do about homosexuals because they also say it about unmarried heterosexual people doesn't wash, because they're allowed to marry and enjoy sex, but not the gay people - so it's still discrimination whichever way you cut it. Saying it's in the bible doesn't make it ethical for anyone else in society (or sensible christians).

Did god make homosexual people (or swans)? Why are they being punished for being who they are if god is love like jesus said?

(@evey - raas was replying to people so don't diss him for that (the content maybe) :) i think it's better discussed anyway to hear the different arguments)

yea maybe I was a bit harsh.

Virtual not ALL Christians think that way though.

PTCH Some Christian stories are moralist n teach values n was taught them from an early age in school assemblies n sang hymns. Please don't ask for details I'm drinking at mo n have hardly slept this week lol. Sorry if I seemed like I was going at you, really I wasn't xxxx

On a similar theme to what Evey said... not Sure if it is just Raas's understanding..

You think it's pessimistic to claim that humans aren't the be all and end all of everything. I think it's arrogant to claim otherwise.

Can someone tell me what the Bible says with regards to this. I have the impression that the Bible said that all life was created equal in the beginning, is that correct or not?

A quick Google search bringing up Genesis 9:8-17 (Noah stuff) pretty much conveys that sort of message, that all life is sacred?

Also does the Bible specifically say there is only life on Earth or is that just a presumption?

Yes shm i love the way that the 26 counties of the republic swapped crown rule for vatican rule.
Check out pastor mcconnells tolerant sermons.....can i hear an amun ra?
Anyway the kingdom of god is in you it iz you and all around you be nice now and youll be happy. Yea you will have eternal life coz the atoms un your body do not die they just go elsewhere.

Let he without sin cast the first stone..

lol raas you are such a hypocrite..

John 8:7 raas.. John 8:7..

Are you without sin, raas?

Matthew 7:1 ya judgey coont.

I'll address that link you posted later Vurtual.. but for now.. Night night :)

John 8 said:
“Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6They were using this question as a trap,in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

11“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,”Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

Matthew 7 said:
1“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

So raas, shuddap and go study your bible some more.. because I don't think you're doing it right.

Now go and preach that women should be subordinate to men and not be bald.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35
English Standard Version (ESV)
34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

"But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man."

Nice one rickolasnice. That last sentence of that last quote really makes it sound like the eve/original sin bollocks was part of an effort to subvert the previously common and obvious idea of women having a special magical status because of their generative power, as reflected by their previous representation in 'pagan' religions. The ugly mysogyny is really quite noticeable in parts of the old and new testament and needs to be filtered (and once you've accepted one filter, there's little argument for not filtering the homo stuff too (Raas).

Indeed..

Most of the references to homosexuality comes from Paul (Gospels of Paul, Romans, Corinthians, etc) which is the same author (apparently) as the sexist shite..

:\

So, raas..

As far as i remember the only reference to homosexual activity to not come from Paul was the first you addressed.. In which Jesus is actually talking about fornication.. sex outside of marriage.

Well if a gay couple get married.. then.. well.. surely it's not an issue anymore?

Bit busy today, will be back tomorrow with full replies. Before I get back: Ricko how the hell am I being judgemental? I'm just purporting what the bible says, as I have been asked to. :?
