what are "warm phones" ?

Afaik the 'warm phones' are the phones that are usually free to use in the JCP for when you have problems with your benefits etc.
Some job centres have already had theirs removed according to another forum I go on.
So if you have no phone what are u supposed to do?

I was reading all that PCS bumph last night. what a shit union. all the unions are shit, dancing to the governments tune. Shammy It's a bit early in the morning for such crypticness.

I hated using their phones, but really what are you supposed to do? these nos are all 0845 or whatever. They are planning on putting wifi in the job centres though.

Only advice i can give you guys is Personal Profile. That is the only thing that matters on your CV, You must sell yourself in 30 seconds.

Really? I never had a personal profile. 16 years in IT, probably 12 successful interviews out of 14 or something? Numbers are probably a bit out but I've had a good few jobs over the years and not bothered with that sort of thing, just put the facts down.

Maybe when you don't have any work experience, it's different. But there are all ages looking at this.

Yeh i got no experience in the job i wanted but i got it, it sets you apart from the many other applicants the profile. But yeah in your case because you have worked in IT for that long you will always get interviews for new IT jobs because of experience.

wow that is a very impressive success rate. I havent a clue how many interviews ive attended over the years, but maybe a smillar number to yours. And thinking about it,my success ratio may be simillar to yours, but the most recent ones are worsening my ratio, as its 2 fails out of 2 so far this time round. I am trying to be positive about the whole thing, and try to learn from any mistakes i make at interviews, like forgetting to research the company ! :o Someties though, there is just someone with better skills and experience than you, or the manager just thinks somoene else would fit into the existing team better, or something like that.

It helps that I have usually applied for jobs which are a very close match for my previous experience. And that I worked in a specialism where there is a fair bit of demand and not much supply.

hmm yeah, im applying for things where i dont fully meet the person spec for experience annd knowledege. This could lead to continually being pipped to the post by someone with a closer experience match. On the other hand, I have to be optimistic, and keep trying, in the hope that one of the interviewers is going to see something good in me, experience can be learnt after all, and they can get away with paying me at the lower end of the salary band as i dont have the full skills and experience. though it easier for them to get someone that doesnt require much learning. i dont want to have to step down a level, and start all over again with a junior position at 43 years old, but its possible i might eventually have to do that.

I recently had this problem - although the phones still exist at my jobcentre, no-one is allowed to use them! However, the JC staff advised me that the 0845 numbers are free from a public callbox - if you can find one that is.

MDB - I thought my posts could come back to bite me on the ass so I deleted the last two. Sorry it looks like your posts are a bit random now.

I get where your coming from though, If I wasn't completely comfortable with my situation I maybe would have a different perspective. Going ahead with it anyway so we shall see how it pans out :D
