Jobseeker's Allowance Megathread ver. The Jeremy Kyle Fan Club

There is a practice test somewhere online. That told me 18 pts. No, Atos-farts never tell u how many points u got.

ATOS are understaffed so a good thing 2 do is put on yer form that u can in no way come out f yer house to see em .

They have to take it in 2 acct so they will phone ya . n that is easier
 
I just couldnt be bothered with all the extra stress and hassle involved in applying for ESA rather than JSA. That really is ironic, because that must have meant i was genuinelly unwell, to the point that i was incapable or intimitidated by filling in complicated forms and having to go through tests. In the end i decided it would be less hassle to apply for JSA and go through the motions of applying for jobs in order to comply and get my £71 a week. The system truly sucks, i really feel sorry for people that have problems worse than my own have been. I found the system extremely hard to navigate, and have shoit myself in the foot by having savings.

Lesson learnt THERE IS NO POINT HAVING SAVINGS WHEN THE INTEREST RATE IS VIRTUALLY ZERO, I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT A FUCKING NEW CAR INSTEAD. But i didnt know i was gonna be unemployed for so long, still i stand by there is no point saving or having money that can be traced to you, you get penalised for doing so. Completely unfair and unjust, you work hard for 20 years and then you cant get benefits when you need them. Absolutely fills me with rage.

How come you declared your savings mate?
 
its all linked to your NI number, plus my interest has been paid into my bank a/c and they asked to see 6 months statements, and they'd be bound to ask "what is this monthly payment here" and would be able to deduce what it means. The consequences for 'defrauding' the cunts can be quite severe and Id rather not have to worry and feel paranoid constantly about getting caught out, Id rather have the peace of mind and take my chances on getting a job.

In a week or so, or whenver i feel fully well im just gonna start bombing everywhere with applications for any job going. I have an income of £45 a month. That is it. That doesnt even cover my council tax. I'm completely screwed until i get a job.
 
Wow, that's a bit harsh :( Pity your savings weren't totally separate from your current account. I'm surprised they asked to see 6 months' statements - I've just signed back on JSA and only had to show a month. I know what you mean about not wanting the worry of getting caught for fraud though. It's a sad ol' world when honesty is NOT the best policy...

I have since then received a form from ATOS which was for the Work Capability Assessment if I remember rightly.
Luckily for me because of the cancer and chemotherapy I didn't have to go through the whole form as if u do have cancer & other medical issues you can skip majority of the form and just get the doctor to fill in your cancer details on the very last page.
But would deffo get help with the form if you can.

That's the form I had - the work capacity assessment form n the questions are daft which is why the CAB filled it in. It ticked "it varies" for most of the questions n explained in the space provided. Maybe because I was migrated from Incapacity Benefit (IB) I was only asked to complete that form.

I can understand your frustration to an extent, MDB, but the fact that you had savings means you don't immediately 'need' the benefits as much as somebody with no savings does. That's kind of the idea of means testing.
 
yes but my point is that if id just blown all my money rather than saving some of it then i would have been entitled to benefits. Its a disincentive for people to look after themselves and take financial responsibilty for themselves IMO. People who have worked hard to put something by get nothing whilst those that havent get free handouts.

If i could rewind time I'd obviously have put the lot into bitcoins in 2010 or w/e they first came out and i would now be a multi millionaire. I would also probably have killed myself with a drugs overdose if that had happened too, so probably just as well that didnt happen. :\

Either that, Or I'd have shoe boxed my savings well before i resigned my job, but i wasnt thinking that clearly or planning that far ahead at the time.

Surely if you believe in taking financial responsibility for yourself, you'd just live off your savings for as long as possible and not claim benefits at all?

Listen to the language you're using: 'free handouts'. It's not a 'free handout' for 99% of claimants, so much as their only lifeline. As for this dichotomy between those who've worked hard and those who haven't, we're straying into Daily Mail territory. Let's not, eh?

I'm sure you'd look upon somebody who was claiming JSA while working cash-in-hand as a despicable fraudster, wouldn't you? Yet you're advocating people cheating the system all the same. Only it's apparently different because they 'deserve it'. :\

we are not going to agree on your first 2 paragraphs, what you say in your first sentence is exactly what i am being forced to do. As for the last bit the benefits system is so shit and unfair that it deserves screwing over by anyone and everyone that can get away with it.
 
You cant blame a person for pointing out the flaws in a faulty system that adversly affects them surely.

Maybe im not seeing the bigger picture, and am just focussed on how it has fucked me over, or ive not managed it smartly, by not being on the ball/shrewd/crooked/when unpredictable events occurred.

Anyway, hopefully it can all soon become irrelevant. I always said i wanted to get off opis and bupe before i got back into work, and now i have done that.
 
our system is fundamentally broken, no point complaining about about the missing wing mirror when the thing won't get out of reverse gear ;)

There are flaws in the benefits system, yes. But your predicament isn't one of them.

It's not a flaw in the system if people who can feasibly pay toward their upkeep are expected to do so.
