Migrants contribute £25bn to UK economy, study finds
Arrivals from EEA countries since 2000 have worked more and received less in benefits than average Briton, academics argue
I can tell you from personal experience that Polish workers in my particular (shitty) town have inspired much life and rejuvination into a shit heap of an area that was dead and burried and doomed to failure due to the failure of the fishing industry. Many empty shop units which the council were going to do fuck all about and leave to rot are now filled, and sell decent wholefoods; markets opened that once were barren.
Not to mention them giving kick ass hair cuts for a fiver, AND you might even be lucky enough to see/feel the first brush of cleveage youve had in a while from the hawt Polish chick while she's clipping away and stroking your mane.
What's not to love?
1 - Is that 25bn enough to provide the extra drs, cheap housing, teachers experienced in teaching kids who speak English as 2nd language. Is it enough to cover the strain on our services and resources
and put extra into the treasury ? In other words have we actually benefited from them being here ?
2 - Arrivals work more / claim less than the average brit ?
The key word here is
average most migrants are of working age. The average brit will include pensioners, the terminally ill, children etc etc. To compare a group of people who by definition are able to travel to an indigenous population is a flawed way of looking at this
3 - They do cheap hair cuts
Well whoopy do. They also undercut local plumbers too. The idea that migrants are more hard working than the average brit is a clever feat of social engineering and youve fallen for it hook, line and sinker.
Yeah some of them work for peanuts
because they have to. This idea is particularly dangerous in the current climate. After all prices are going up quicker than wages. But isn't the onus on employers on giving us a decent days pay for a decent days work ? The idea that brits are lazy and spoilt hampers progress on this front.
3 - You could get to touch a boob.
Yes obviously anyone typing on the internet must be single, sex starved and socially awkward.
....lame
4 - just looked at your links and see they're from the guardian. Oh my days. If the Guardian says its true then it must true. If their target audience is teachers with leather patches on their elbows and social workers then clearly they must be totally unbiased.
