I had chicken Tikka and some Samosas - ate out of a bag sitting in the boot of my car! Not the greatest of setting but eating stuff like that picnic style tastes so much better :D

I honestly believe that's what makes Thai food so good.

Sitting on the street munching away at it in among the hustle and bustle.

You just can't beat it.

Much more fun than sitting round a dining table pretending to be civil.

No word of a Lie, we never had a sitty down meal in Bangkok - the street food was too nice / quick / cheap. My last trip to Phuket was just dire (It was truly horrible) - I'm a pretty decent cook and cook Thai food often we were not impressed with the street food and even the touristy places were just awful. May sound stupid but I actually ate more food from an Irish Bar (called Molly;s :D) than anywhere else - the food tasted more 'Thai' than the rest of the places and it was super cheap. I lived on chicken Penang :D.

Does he post on Bluelight at all Bear? you don't have to divulge if you don't want to or feel comfortable, just a point of intrigue for me!

No he is not a member of the site and probably hasn't even read a single one of my posts :D. He isn't on pillreports either :D

I wasn't a fan of Phuket though I was staying in an out of the way resort that had nothing to do round about it.

Was just the hotel and a couple of restaurants.

Thought Patong Beach doesn't sound too good either.

Most tourist aimed restaurants in Thailand are shite.

Either selling Thai food no better (often worse) than the street food for ten times the price.

Or making crappy sub standard Western food that's more expensive and worse tasting than what you'd get back home.

I love though that in BKK you can go out for a nice meal to a good restaurant and for two of you eating starters, main, dessert and drinks you'll only be about £20.

Was at a Mexican place this week and last. Last time I had a £6 cocktail (that got me pissed and was so strong it took me 45mins to drink) and we stuffed our faces, was like £18 in total for everything.

Ate at an award winning Thai place the two weeks before that and we ordered about a dozen dishes, bill was £16.

Me eating out back home consists of going to the chippy or the kebab shop after the pub because going to restaurants is usually too expensive.

I hate to make sweeping generalizations but.... the Australians have sort of fucked Phuket. For them its a short flight and the AUD / to THB is so high that everything to them is cheap. They have simply encouraged the Thais to up the prices on everything - especially the food! I got chatting to a few Aussie women who thought the place was super cheap (compared to back home) when I tried to explain it was super expensive compared to places like BKK or even Samui they didn't mind. We found a few places (off the main strip) where we could eat our fill for about 20£ including drinks - but the place is horrible. Its super busy, and you join the herd and walk with them - the main street is full of tailors that bug the life out of you, nice shirt sir, you want a suit sir, my friend, mate, mate, MATE ! That and MASSAAAAGE - you want taxi, taxi, taxi, taxi Tuk Tuk, ladies, coke, hashish, get you a nice lady, you want coke, taxi, taxi taxi tuk tuk. Saving grace - over the counter valium. Thankfully this year its not the knock of Roche but their own blister packs :)

Get to the main drinking street - Bangla road and every negative and steriotype you have heard about Thailand is on it. Prossies / Lady boys / ping pong shows (old women with gold fish / darts etc)/ people wanting you to pose with baby monkeys / lizards / birds etc. You get pou uulled this way and that way by touts, whores touching you up/grabbing your cock asking you want good time (yeah wheres your dad ?) but urrrggh.

Phuket is run by the mafia.

Taxis, tuk tuks, jet skis, hotels, bars...all mafia run and inflated prices.

A real shit hole scam destination.

This is not Thailand.

Every main tourist area of Thailand has the touts, tuk tuk and taxi drivers, suit sales men, drug dealers, hookers and all that nonsense.

Can't stand it.

I never see that shit where I live or go out. Thank fuck or I'd go mad.

I don't get asked for anything or bothered at all.

Went to meet a mate at Kowsan Road a while back because he was temporarily staying down there.

Horrible. Just non stop hassle from people looking to extort you. I used to like that place too.

Lower Sukhumvit around the red light districts of Nana and Cowboy are filled with African drug dealers blocking the pavements trying to flog you drugs.

How the fuck do these guys get visas to come here and sell drugs?

You need a legit reason to be here and surely Nigeria et al aren't exactly prime candidates for no visas or easy stays.

Anyone who thinks about buying off them must be mad.

It's all so open they must be in cahoots with the police.

Police aren't much better.

Corrupt as you like.

If you get into any trouble out there I'd say the last people you want to seek help from is them.

You need to get away from all that nonsense it just drains you if you deal with it every day.

Thankfully my area is relaxed and has no drama or hassle.

Not a major tourist area but not far away from it either.

Everything you need is here.

EDIT:

Oh shit off topic or what. Sorry mods I'm pissed. ;)

So aye....

The street food round here is awesome.

Pad Ka Pow Gai Kai Dow, Radna Moo, Pad Thai, Moo Ping, Gai Yang, Gai Tot....arroi mak mak! :sus:

Sadly this is what draws most people to Thailand too.

I've never seen a ping pong show and I never want to.

I fucking hated Pattaya.

I didn't like Phuket much.

I've never been to Nana Plaza (well taxi driver took me there even though I asked to go somewhere else but it was thankfully closed as was 3am).

I've been to Soi Cowboy a few times but don't really like it. More to show newbies to BKK who want to see the 'naughty' side of the city.

Haven't been to any shitty after hour clubs on this trip and have no plans to either.

Better avoiding all this shite IMO.

All expensive and rip offs and full of scammers and cunts.

This is not Thailand.

What's up with your spacing Spade?

Looks like you're writing a fucking poem.

Actually we ended up on Grace road (I think its the local Red light area) BKK - we got stopped /offered sex about twice. It was nothing at all an was far less than any other main city center that Ive been in (Madrid is far worse). What was great was a no thanks was enough and they moved on. The guys offering the services were direct and upfront - you want ladies, body to body, naked , sex etc.

Phuket (Patong) they followed you down the street shouting /talking to you. They think its find to simply walk up to you and grab your cock/balls - thing is if you try and remove their hand your wallet vanishes. You have to simply grab your wallet first and then tell the hag to fuck off - our last day I had to stop my bf as he wanted to kick the shit out of a tailor who was mounting off at me (I honestly couldn't give a fuck) this guy had been on my case every day. Thats a nice shirt, do you want a suit - no thank you. Thats a nice shirt - do you want a suit - no thank you. Last day the guy was actually following me down the street shouting - excuse me, can I look at your shirt, may I look at your shirt. Then he called me a lady boy and my bf kicked off :D. Were not small guys but these guys are out in numbers - if it was one on one or maybe three on one I would still have a go but when there are about 15 guys onto two (and your fucked) its better to walk away.

Bang Thao - was another story and I could live there no problem at all. I think we say about 10 people on the beach - stopped off in this road side shack for a few beers and the guy was super friendly / chatting away about nowt.

Grace Road? Never heard of it...what area is it in?

The local red light district in BKK is in the Saphan Kwai area I believe. Never been but I hear it's much less intimidating and in your face than most parts of Lower Sukhumvit / Patong where the tourists go.

Though I doubt you'd be in Saphan Kwai, it's well out the way and is a long BTS journey. Don't think there's much reason to be there for a tourist.

Whatever you do not get in a fight in Thailand. You will lose.

It doesn't matter that the guy wanting to fight is 4 foot and scrawny as shit.

Him, his mates, their mates, and every other local in the street will join in in kicking fuck out of you.

The locals stick together and most of them are just looking for a reason to kick a farangs head in.

They're fed up of all the bullshit and abuse (often that they have brought on themselves tbf) they get every day.

When they snap they go fucking crazy.

They don't often show emotion or anger but when it finally comes out it comes out in force.

Bats, knives, hammers...whatever.

Ten of them stomping on your head.

Then the police turn up and have a go at kicking you in as well.

Then if you're still alive they arrest you and say you started it.

Bribe or jail time.

Getting into trouble out here is suicidal.

You are worthless out here.

They don't value their own lives (Buddhists...reincarnation so why do they care if they die) so they certainly don't valur yours.

I sure have.

Pattaya 'legend'.

Aussie boy I met in BKK told me all about him.

Sounds like mad bastard that I'd want to avoid but apparently he does a lot of good in Pattaya like he raised loads of money for homeless and disabled kids and animals.

Though his past is scary.

Jesus fuck the Ken man likes to munch a plate of hella Hulk dicks

Me I just ate a fantastic beef stir fry with proper steak in it.

I got paid.

Grace Road? Never heard of it...what area is it in?.

I'll check and find out where it was - yeah I know what your saying about fighting in Thailand. Like I said if it was one on one or maybe three on one I'd still have fucking go. They gang up and quick though - when every other shop is selling knives / stun guns etc then you know its not going to be a clean fight.

This kid that was bad mouthing me ran back to his mates when we stopped walking. My bf wanted to go and kick the shit out of him - yeah we would have caused a bit of damage but we would have come out worse (or dead).

That red light area - if you leave Lumphini Park from the main entrance - cross the double road and go right (under the sky train bridge) - the road sort of takes you one block away from the main road - That is Grace Street (behind Si Lom Station 2) .

According to Google it's in Nana...home to Nana Plaza...which is the big tourist RLD in BKK.

It's basically a 3 story shopping mall of whores.

I don't know that area too well.

Been out drinking there only once or twice.

There's a 24hr beer garden I've been to a few times at 9-10am in the morning in that area when all other bars are closed.

Fighting really is not worth it here.

Recently a 60 year old American dude thought a taxi driver had rigged the meter.

The fare was 50B (A quid!) and he argued with him about it.

When they got to traffic the yank jumped out without paying and walked away.

The taxi driver grabbed a machete and hacked him to death.

Over a quid. Life is cheap.

Two weeks ago a foreigner and his son were in a bar. Live band on.

The dad gets up on stage and tries to sign with the band

The band don't like it.

Member of the band drives a metal pole through his chest and kills him.

Few weeks back a family are walking through BKK and a tuk tuk driver is hassling them.

Dad gets into argument with him.

Tuk tuk driver leaves and comes back with an army of tuk tuk drivers.

The whole family including son, mother and daughter get their heads kicked in from tuk tuk drivers.

Don't fight in Thailand.

You will not win.

At best you get your head kicked in.

At worst dead.

Wrong thread but for Spade -

And - if you go to MBK just as they are closing - the sushi is like 90% off so to get the thread back to what you have ate ...
