Finally remembered why I came in here.

Has anyone tried doing a heroin detox with a limited supply of Suboxone?

I've come off Methadone using Suboxone in the past and I'm familiar with Suboxone but I can't use that as any kind of guide. This time I'm not on Methadone or Valium either. Just the kit.

I had been doing a rough average of 2-4 .2 bags a day since Xmas, when my habit went back up yet again. Got a tax rebate and you know the rest. By last week I was into my second teenth in 3 days and decided enough was enough.

The other day I laid my hands on 6 X 8mg Subs for £15, which I thought was pretty reasonable, considering what people are paying for single mgs in the nick.

Anyway, on day one I had 6mgs of Sub, day two was 6mgs of Sub, day 3 was 4mgs of Sub and today I've had just 2mg but I snorted that and so far, I feel pretty good I have to say. I've even been sleeping like a log, even though during the day, I have been feeling the odd little rattles. I intend to keep taking as much as I feel I need, hopefully taking less and less, for maybe the next week and then try a day without, to see what happens.

I'm just wondering what's likely to be the outcome.

Anyone else tried a short-term rattle off the gear with a small amount of Sub?

you got a great deal on your subs. I paid about £50 for 14 x 2 mg bupe pills IIRC. Im doing a 3 week taper off a low dose synthetic opiate habit. It took me about 6 days to adjust and i felt only very mild withdrawals, but after 6 days i felt absolutely fine. I started on 2mg and am down to 1.25 now with no further withdrawal type problems at all so far. Im having some trouble sleeping though and the bupe seems to have boosted my mood which may make it harder to let go of it at the end of the taper.,

Buying local they're usually dirt cheap, online and that's a different story & apparently they go for insane prices in prison! Waiting for a sub script myself, how have people found it for maintenance vs methadone? (sorry to hijack the thread)

round here 100 quid gets u 70 2mg tablets of suoxone or subutex , easiest detox I ever did was over 8 days day 1 12mg ,2 -16mg- 3 -12mg day 4 -8mg 5-4mg 6-2mg 7 -0.8mg 8-0.4mg then next day 0.2 then jump , felt lethargic sweaty etc for a few weeks afterwards just paws I suppose but most comfy quick detox ever from roughly a gram a day day 1 I waited till pupils were fully dilated and teary yawning then took 4mg waited 2 hr then 8 more after that sublingual every morning that was subutex prob no difference maintenance wise here suboxone is norm but if you tell them u have naloxone allergy you get subutex instead

As far as when I was using Sub to come off Methadone, I'll describe how it went.

I was on and off 5-6 times over a 4 year period and I always relapsed pretty quickly because I never felt quite right, even months after coming off the Meth. About 4 years ago, I had managed to wean myself from 65mgs down to 30mgs in a fortnight before I felt any sign of WDs. I tried going down to 28mgs a couple of times but each time I started rattling quite severely. I admit, I was trying to push things along too quickly but I was sick to the back teeth with supervised doses and clinic appointments every week.

I told my doc that I had got down to 30mgs, which he was horrified with and he wanted to put me back up to a more stable dose but I wasn't having any of it. I spoke to my drug worker and she suggested that since I was already down to 30mgs and that I had given clean urines for months, I could try Suboxone. I had heard more or less good things about it and I was right up for trying, even if it did mean 3 days without any Methadone. To be honest, the Meth was still going to hold me for at least 48 hours, so I thought I'd only have to rattle for a day. That is really how it went but the 3rd day was pretty horrific. I hadn't slept in 2 days and my appointment wasn't until 10am and I was pretty close to scoring but I held out, went to the clinic and gave a urine test to demonstrate I hadn't scored in the previous 3 days. No problem there.

I was given an 8mg Sub and told to wait 15minutes. It was a long 15 minutes but I already knew that something was happening for the better. Ah, I did develop a headache, which lasted an hour or so but I was told that often happens with the first dose. So, after the 15 minutes had passed, I was asked how I felt. I was actually a great deal better already but I wasn't quite there yet and I made that clear. I was given another 8mgs and told to wait another 15 minutes. This time, I flicked through the paper, sat back and even went for a smoke. I was asked how I felt this time and I was feeling normal for the first time in years.

When I say years, I absolutely mean that! I was quite sure that 15 or so years of heroin abuse, valium abuse and on/off Methadone treatment had completely reworked my brain and I was never going to be the same person again. The person who used to read daily, draw, go fishing 3 times a week, chase wimmen and all that. I must have been in that clinic all of 45 minutes and I felt like a whole new person. I told my drug worker that I felt really good and she decided to keep me on 16mgs for the next 3 days, after then she'd get me in for a blether and see if I was OK with that dose. She gave me 6 X 8mgs and sent me home. The next 3 days were painless. Slept, ate, perfect.

When I went back to see her, I told her everything had gone really well and she sorted out a daily script with the local chemist, which was still supervised but I did feel like I was going in the right direction. That was a feeling I didn't think would ever happen with Methadone. Horrible stuff. I spent the next 5 WEEKS on Suboxone, gradually lowering my dose by 2-4mgs on each visit to the clinic. I came off after a week at 2mgs and it was wholly painless. I missed maybe 3-4 hours sleep each night for the next week perhaps but I was sleeping and I was quite alright.

So, up until Xmas there, I didn't have a habit. I did use from time to time but I swore I'd never go back to Methadone and for that reason I had managed to keep a check on my use. I was given a tax rebate just before Xmas and went on a bender, which lasted until last week. That was when I laid my hands on more Subs. I've just never tried a short-term Heroin detox with them, which is the reason for my original post.

To answer your question in short, Suboxone totally sorted me out from a grim life on the Methadone. I cannot tell you how much of a difference it made. If I can sort the last 6 months out, it'll have sorted me out again. Fingers crossed it's as effective the second time around.

Thanks for all the info, def sounds right for me, do they really push for detoxing off it? I want to eventually, but for the forseeable future i just want to maintain on it, just get back to normality which is sounds like its great for, pushed off it too quick and i'll be straight back to using. After a 15 year habit fewkinghel you've done well! Hope it works just as good this time :)

No, I pushed to make it happen that quickly.

I'm not saying they'd have been happy to keep me on it indefinitely though. Suboxone is woefully expensive compared to Methadone and from what I've been led to believe, a long-term Sub habit is just as grim as Smack or Meth habit but I don't know ANY Sub-users who are on long-term maintenance.

Let's face it, most addicts relapse back onto Kit and once that happens, it's back to Methadone in between times. You can just about keep Heroin and Meth on the go at the same time but it doesn't really work with Suboxone.

When you're on Methadone, it's a simple case of getting your hit before you go for your Meth and you get the benefit of both drugs, albeit to a lesser degree. If you're on Suboxone, you just won't get a buzz from Heroin at any time at all and the risk of WDs is much more likely. For that reason, many addicts I know would rather stay on Meth and dabble with Kit every 2-3 days or just daily if they're really lying to themselves.

For Suboxone to work, you really have to want to see the back of your habit and if you really do I firmly believe it'll work like it says on the tin. If there's even a slight chance of dabbling, stick with the Meth.

Nope, chirpy as a chirpy thing.

Jumping off at 2mg? After five weeks at minimum 2mg per day? 8(

Rather you than me...

I found it far from painless to jump off at a tenth of that amount, even when I'd switched to dosing every other day.

me too long before h I got a temgesic habit continually using for 2 yrs snorting tho .4 temgesic and one night ran out never thought anything of it till my stomach started cramping up all night rls puking , managed to go get a couple strips next day within 30min of snorting .4 I was fine , even trying to come off .2 I struggled like fk then there was a drought of ejm I ended up on h , that's how it went for me but a short week detox was great as detox goes!

Mmm, this very interesting, and completely opposite to what I have been led to believe and witnessed.

You say you went straight onto subutex off a 30mg/day methadone habit, WITHOUT ANY PRECIPITATED WITHDRAWAL?? How the fuck did you manage that? Did you stay off the meth for a few days first until you were really rattling or what? I've never done subs myself, but the wife tried it when she was on 20mg/day of meth (having not taken any for 24 hours) and suffered the worst withdrawal she'd ever experienced. I'm currently on 40mg/day of meth and would like to switch to subs when possible, but I can't see that being a realistic option for quite a while.

So what's the secret man?

I was happy by myself. Accidentally, you seduced me, I'm in love again.

:\

(apologies to Bjork)

something pretty much exactly like that. I lost myself about 23 years ago. I was lost but now am found, bupe is my shepperd, i shall not stray. oh dear oh dear oh dear. Will be interesting to hear what my drugs workers have to say about this when i tell them.

I've heard a lot of conflicting info, with meth i only have to dose once a day to stay stable, does subutex keep you well for a full 24+hrs with 1 morning dose also? How long before the sickness starts creeping up with em?

It definitely stays in your system for a while. Depends on the person and the ROA to an extent (as well as the length of time you've been taking itm for), but I've managed about 36 hours between doses before and still been fit to work.

Probably could've stretched to two days, but it wouldn't have been that comfortable.

The half-life is listed at something like 20-72 hours.
