I can't lie I like Travis. Writing To Reach You is a class tune. Pagey please give that a listen if you don't know it, it's beautiful. Like me. <3

I didn't know it and it's indeed beautiful. Like you <3

Deal and a half , yes indeedy

Nice %)

Ha! I wanna play. Next time I'm down at my bros house I'll try knock out a version of Beat It, if you promise to lie and say it's good. =D

Go for it!

Thoughts on this? Quite a different take on the song but I really do love it.
Corinne Bailey Rae - Since I've Been Loving You

Ha! Nice cover, Kingme. You can play too ;)

Another covers bomb...

They Might Be Giants - Tubthumping (original may be annoyingly cheesy "fun" but this version is just plain fukkin joyous)

The Antlers - Wish You Were Here (genuinely beautiful cover)

Frightened Rabbit - Confetti (pretty fukkin yummy that)

Lucero - Modern Love (despite my Bowie fetish I almost like this more than the original)

Nada Surf - Bizarre Love Triangle (yet another cover to add to the already massive pile... is a goody though. That muted trumpet is lush)

Father John Misty - Do You Realize?? (I <3 the original and I <3 this nice acoustic chilled version too)

The Polyphonic Spree - Heart of Gold (always good for a cover are the Spree but Neil Young covers always make me purr)

I could go on (and on) but won't. You get the point. Check out the rest of the AV Club's covers "competition" stuff cos there are some absolute beauts on there <3

My god Shambles, I now officially pronounce you cover king. <3

Nice track Kingme I like the album that's off it get annoying and the novelty value wares off quiet quickly though I found.

Sorry fellas I know this isn't new or obscure but it is fucking ace, thanks for reminding me Shambles:

The Polyphonic Spree - Lithium

I know, I know, must try harder, how's this Damien Rice's chelloist (spelling?) covering Jimi Hendrix:

Vyvienne Long - Purple Haze

Actually have the full version from a bootleg and the gig is a belter. Believe. Also found this while looking for that. Which was nice.

Oh yeah, I know them. Funny I downloaded a load of contemporary 'classics' done by classical instruments to play during the meal at my wedding. It went down so well a few weddings we went to afterwards borrowed our idea. Stuff like Radiohead, Coldplay & RHCP.

This one I think works really well:

The String Quartet Tribute To The Killers - Smile Like You Mean It

Pure class that version of Lithium, Ben <3

More Polyphonic Spree covers Goodness... and some other covers Goodness...

Polyphonic Spree - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (live)

Jimi Hendrix - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (live) (not PS but seemed appropriate. I had the Swedish live bootleg album with probably the definitive Jimi version on it years ago. This version has shitty sound quality but does at least have video)

Polyphonic Spree - Five Years

David Bowie (with Polyphonic Spree) - Slip Away (live) (sound quality ain't the best but it's David Bowie live with Polyphonic Spree so who cares)

Polyphonic Spree - See Me, Feel Me/Pinball Wizard (live) (again. shitty sound quality but a rare song of theirs so...)

Flaming Lips - Knives Out (needs no selling from me)

Flaming Lips - Pennyroyal Tea (pretty faithful cover by their standards)

Flaming Lips - I Am the Walrus (just fukkin brilliant)

I could go on... and on... and on (and on and on) but will leave it there for now. Did I mention I have a fetish for covers? :D

Oh wow, girls playing the cello. Hawt. No offence Pagey but you can see why eh?

The String Quartet Tribute To Red Hot Chili Peppers - Fortune Faded

What did you make of that choir singing Volcano Shambles? I know you like a bit of Rice. I was impressed actually. I fucking luv that song. One song that gives me goose bumps every single time.

Damien Rice - Sand

"But you tease me
And it shows in the way that you play
You think you know my love
Wake up young girl
And take a taste
Not a bite, not a bite of a life now
Can tell you never come, yeah well
My will, my mind
My lips, my lines
I've got them all over you"

I love that track, the chorus is so so special. Pagey give that one a burn, it's gorgeous. Like you.

Haha no offense at all. Just another reason for me to have continued playing the cello :(

(listening to it!)

edit: oh it's beautiful :) <3

Cello + Gal = Massive vibrating instrument of pure <3 between open legs... fukkin yum <3

Also, Damien Rice <3

Also like a lot of those String Quartet Tribute to... albums. Got loads. The Aphex Twin one is probably my fave. But also gotta lotta <3 for the NIN one :D

Laying of the covers ferra mo (aside froma few wot snuck in :o)...

Babymetal - Headbanger (thanks to Ceres for introducing me to the uberwin that is Babymetal. Japanese girl band metal with distinctly paedo overtones (but is Japan so perfectly acceptable :D)

Alice In Chains (feat. Flea) - Jane Says (live) (reposted for the umpteenth time for sheer awesomeness)

Metz - Wasted (live) (Nirvanaesque but fukkin godly in its own right)

The Vaselines - Son of a Gun/Molly's Lips (circle jerk covers a-go-go)

The Vaselines - Lithium (as above but very different to the original... inna gooooood way)

Anal Cunt - Stayin' Alive (just plain genius)

Primal Scream - Kick Out the Jams (live) (no point in trying to big this one up. It's godliness is obvious)

Will try to avoid such lengthy splurges after this... try :o

Ha ha there's no stopping you tonight eh Shambles? <3 it mate please keep posting. Great tracks.

Oh btw listened to that Nevermind Forever album and The Dillinger track you posted was by far the best track on the album. Not impressed by all the emo style vocalists. The just didn't get the raw emotion Kurt provided. This was good though. This however is great:

DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN "Like I Love You" w Mike Patton,

Yes, him again.

Ya. is a mixed bag as are all "tribute" albums. I liked quite a few on there though. Give it a coupla listens before writing it off completely. But ya, the DEP one is probably the standout track on there.

Limiting myself to one cover for this post. Is beyond fukkin awesome though <3

Boris & Merzbow - Walrus

Yes, your recently discovered backtracked fave band Boris. With headfuck noise genius Merzbow. This is pretty restrained though and is genuinely a brilliant cover of I Am the Walrus. Probably my fave cover actually. Although must admit to a certain fondness for the Oasis version :o

On that DEP/Patton tune next cos I've not heard it before. Incidentally, have made initial forays into introducing Pagey to the genius of Mike Patton. Picked some random tracks she wasn't that into though so failed. She knows she needs to get the hang of it though. If not cos I say so, the fact that you also say so speaks volumes. Work on her too, Ben. Together we'll learn 'er good %)

Ben and I can work on obsessing you with the Black Keys and the both of you can work on obsessing me with Patton.

Anyway sadly I never really listen to covers so not much to contribute here :(

Then at least listen to some of the many wot many have posted here tonight. Covers are great. I like nothing more than hearing a totally different take onna classic tune. Or even a brilliant take onna shite tune

And you kinda got me at El Camino. I liked that album a lot. I could easily be swayed. Might even tag along to that gig with you and Ben ;)

Some pure classic Patton. One of my fave albums of all time <3

Mr Bungle - Squeeze Me Macaroni (wiv lyrics!?! 8o<38o)

Listened to this album on constant repeat the first time I took mushies with a coupla mates. To say I was converted barely covers it. Was genuinely in fear of bursting ribs at times :D
