Why are they so hard to do? It was 10 years ago I made it, not done it since it was so bad. But I remember knowing at the time it was meant to be hard to make, and following a recipe very very precisely.....I remember using marmalade...and I remember TWO layers....

There not hard to do - few ingredients in a cup/bowl and microwave for a few minutes. The problem is the taste - they simply taste 'wrong'.

Very dense choccy cake. Multiple layers cooked kinda on top of each other... but seperately. Kinda hard to explain. Hence debate. My memory suggests it's the baked good equivalent of a stack of 45s on an oldskool record player though. Admittedly that image may be somewhat personal. Short cooking time for each layer, lotsa layers so takes for bastard ever all the same.

EDIT: Seems wiki have split the difference... I'd say it's these two versions only smooshed together in one cake...

Yeah I know those fuckers, not wrote the word on them or anything. Getting the ganache to sit is the trick I found. Not the cooking mixture etc.

The one I made was like the top one, a big round smooth coin of a cake, supposed to be a superglosslike finish to the outer layer of chocilate mine certainly wasn't, two layers, marmalade or apricot or something in the middle.

edit....and did I fuck atempt to do the seal/stamp/signature on it.

Yeah that cake, old news now I know but like fudge if you get it right. Fucking had a few spill out over the cake tin and burn on the oven floor. Really sticks on as well. Damn stuff.

Seems to be some debate over that online. Now the bit is between the teeth I will argue the toss for the sake of it :D

One I recall definitely looked like the first one but was layered like the second one. Think it's a debate over whether it should be pure choccy cake or hazlenut layers come to think of it. I'd nom the shit outta both, I'm sure.

I would too. The layered hazelnut thing looks a complete bitch to make. The chocolate fudgy penny thing with glossy ganache I have done. Lovely.

I did play the Hitchhikers Guide game, Ben. On one of those properly oldskool Amstrad word processer/PC thingies with two built-in floppy drives on the monitor. Bastard hard though. Even though I know the books inside out. Fukkin fiendish in fact. Resorted to mashing me parents phonebill on the helpline more than once... and even they didn't know the way forward past about when you get the Infinite Improbability Drive and end up spazzing about in all kindsa really difficuly situations

Also, ya, 4-6 hours max for 2C-C. Peak is way less than that too. But is highly redosable so...
