EADD Music Production Thread: Side B

This is the most action this thread has seen in months!

Cheers for all the help, feel like. About if a downer now, like, but I shall go and hunt for a negative 12v power supply and report back. Might end up having to go to maplin, anyway.
:sus:

Christ knows what the hell you're on about in the last post, posting on a phone while riding a bicycle perhaps, but I wish you luck. Aim for one of the PSUs you can change the voltage of and switch the ends of and you'll have a (fucking boring, quiet) friend for life.

My cable arrived today! Been playing around with different sounds for most of today. I've been recording onto Audacity, then converting the WAVs to .rex files in Recycle, and arranging them in Reason as samples. Bit of a flaff, but it's great to finally use the x50 properly.

This is what my experimenting came up with earlier: https://soundcloud.com/iriesian/infinite

I probably need to lay off the resonance knob a bit :p

I'll have a listen... in four and a half hours...

If anything you probably want to drill a hole in the case and add another knob for resonance, at least.

More resonance knobs, you say? :sus: Sounds dangerous.

I might switch to ableton live for recording off the korg. It seems you can do infinite loop recording on there, which cuts out all of the flaff, and makes it easier to get the timings right.

Edit: If only ableton weren't so fucking cryptic for beginners.

I'm assuming you've tried connecting it up to a hifi, computer or amp? Since synths don't come with speakers.

Could well be set up to operate as a sound module (ie keyboard switched off). I got a free Novation Bass Station once for that reason.

See if you can find an instruction manual online as a pdf and if there's anything in there about running it as a sound module mode or similar.

Quick Google says it could be in this mode:

Local Off
A Global mode setting that disconnects the keyboard of the X5 from the sound generator. Thus you hear no sound no matter how hard you try, instead the keyboard just sends out the data of what keys you play via MIDI. If you have a sequencer with Echo On, it sends all incoming notes back and then your Korg plays like normal, exept that you can change the channel on which you play from the sequencer.

I'm assuming the display reacts and changes when you're pressing buttons and ting, right?

My yeah, the actual synthesiser is working, the display etc. Just no sound. I'm yet to bother again today, to try to get it working. I'm gonna try using it straight as a MIDI keyboard to see if the board for the keys could be damaged. Been too busy to get a proper go at working it. Will try tomorrow!
Thanks again for all the advice. :)

I just followed you on SC, there, you've got some cool things. :D
