It is, and every generation pays inflated prices for them because that's what they are. If you like, and with your help, I could continue this tradition.
1st is fully analogue, second two are digitally controlled but analogue oscillators
I would love nothing more than to have those synthesisers in my hands. However, that 1/4 jack lead I just bought off Amazon has squandered nearly half of my weekly allowance so I'm in no position to be buying fancy analogue synths
One day, though, if they haven't gone to another home and I fall into a spot of money...Then I'd happily make you an offer.
Anyone know of a good, free MIDI-only sequencer which will run on XP? I wanna try and make use of my hardware and get out of the usual pattern of firing up a modern DAW and getting lost in VSTs...
Sorry for the triple post, but you other fuckers should discuss this topic more.
Here's what I did at the weekend... I could have cleaned up the synth or the knobs but chose not to because I quite like the grotty aesthetic (and I was being lazy, and it would really have required more taking apart than I was arsed to be doing, and I might take it apart and respray it at some point anyway). The pcbs got a bit of a wash so it's sparkling clean on the inside. Cutoff on the left, resonance on the right.
Flick through them, they're all Boards Of Canada's earliest stuff, and a lot of it sounds like what you were doing with the splicing and sampling. Maybe there's some inspiration to be found in this album (it's a great album btw).
I returned home today all excited. Eyes glistening in the light of the streetlamp outside my window. I had just been given an old synthesiser for free, because it was lying around our Music Department for years without being touched by anyone, due to the lack of a power adapter, and lack of interest. As the resident electronic music producer it was handed to me quite happily, and so I rushed home, in the snow, with a black bin bag wrapped around it to prevent it from getting soaked.
I battled with the elements and finally made it to my room, where I proceeded to plug in a power supply. But to my dismay, the thing doesn't actually work.
What makes this an even more crushing blow being that it's worth at least a few hundred quid and I got it for free.
Yamaha X5D, I didn't know you for long, but you will be greatly missed,
Sincerely, your beloved friend.
