People who think weed isn't a drug aren't the brightest crayons in the box...

They use the excuse "Weed is natural, so it's not a drug."

Well...Psilocibin mushrooms are drugs, right? If you mash poppies together and form a past called opium, that's a drug, right (morphine and codeine are both present in opium)? Mescaline is a drug right? All you do is get it from a cactus. Tobacco is a plant, right?

However, I do agree that there are flaws with the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 and how drugs are scheduled. That being said, weed is one of the most abusable drugs out there, and that's how the DEA schedules work. Schedule I=no medical value (not saying weed doesn't have medical value, it should probably be a C-II) AND highly abusable, or so abusable that the medical community disregards its medical values (i.e. heroin)...

MustangSally, I just got on here and reread what I posted last and realized it could have sounded sarcastic....
I SOO did not mean it that way. What I meant was, I realize how horrible the initial waiting period can be.
Maybe you did not take it that way, I could just be sensitive because my daughter just told me that she got made fun of today at school lol.
Just wanted to make sure you did not take what I said in a nasty or sarcastic way :)

I've been in pain management over two years. I was hit, while stopped at a red light on the night before thanksgiving, by a guy in a pickup truck doing 45mph who blew a .3. He destroyed the back of my car (totaled) and moved the crippled vehicle out into the middle of the road into oncoming traffic (with me, my wife, and her friend still in it >_>).

Honestly I'm lucky to be alive. However I sustained heavy damage to my back. I have chronic, severe disk degenerative disease over my entire spine along with four severely herniated discs in the L1-S5 region. The pain I feel at times is excruciating; more than I can bear, more than any human should have to feel honestly.

I'm probably underprescribed, but I get 180x 10mg Oxycodone / month and 90 350mg Carisoprodol (Soma) / month. Speaks to the fact that I supplement my script with a good number of 30m Roxis.

It's been a hell of a struggle (11 back procedures later), but I'm slowly getting better. Now getting myself free of pain meds is another story ....

I'm very sorry about what you experienced. Did your wife and friend make it? I fucking hate people that drive when they've gone past their limit. Have the back procedures helped at all for you?

Ahh thanks for the concerns dude. Yeah, thankfully I sustained the worst of the injuries because the fucker hit behind my side of the car, thus I took the brunt of the force. My wife's friend had a concussion and my wife sustained several cuts and bruises on her face and lips, but nothing more severe. It was just the torque to my back that did all the damage coupled with the sudden impact, located mostly on my side of the vehicle. My wife's friend was sitting behind her, and like I said the guy impacted us on the back corner of the driver's side.
 
It's a good thing she sat behind your wife, or she might have not made it. The reason I was inquiring about the procedures is because my parents are trying to push, push, push surgery onto me, but I've read so many testimonials that they made things worse. That, and I don't want to pay for another $40,000 back surgery every 5 years.

DO NOT, under any circumstances (unless you've lost control of your bladder/bowels) do surgery right away. Exhaust all other methods of treatments. I've had 11 rounds of noninvasive procedures from epidural injections to facet ryzotomys (look it up), and while they don't work miracles, they've got me up from being bedridden and I can live a semi-normal life. Surgery is the LAST option you take, when all else fails.

In my opinion, at least. Surgery is risky, unproven (not guaranteed to be successful in back injuries like this), and always carries a small risk of paralysis.

Thanks a lot man, your support means a lot. I've really come to terms with it though. I have a very loving and supportive wife who has done more for me than any doctor or medication could. She always cheers me up, she does as much of the lifting around the house as she can, and there's never a day she forgets to tell me how much she loves me, basically because we both had our lives flash before our eyes.

As down as I've been about it, she's always been there to pick me right back up. And of course, all you guys....amazing. BL is my second home. <3
 
Saosin- I'm also very sorry to hear what you've been through. Something as traumatic as that can have a giant impact on every area of your being... Obviously physical, But it's easy to forget about the mental and emotional damage that's done as well.
You mentioned the fact that you are under prescribed. That is not something that you need to allow to continue... I also understand the fact that you don't want to continue taking pain medicines the rest of your life... It can be a very tough decision to make at times. Thank you for sharing your story and please visit us more often!

M.Sally... I'm so glad that you didn't take it the way I feared you would. When I read it back the part where I said something about hideous waiting struck me as an "Oh poor baby" kind of remark, you know? ;)

Doug, seriously I think you should wait on the surgery as well. For many years I worked in Workers Comp at my local PD and every single officer who had back surgery ended up worse off in the long run. My back doc is seriously awesome and he told me that he felt that back surgery often doesn't work. He advised me that I should wait until the pain became literally unbearable before even contemplating surgery.

It seems that you haven't even been properly medicated yet. I would certainly wait until you have had a good amount of time under your belt with proper amounts of meds, maybe a TENs if you haven't already tried that, some HRT which you are already doing.

I really hope everyone is having a good day pain wise. This past week has sucked for me. I was completely bed bound Monday through Wednesday. Yesterday sucked, but today I woke up feeling good.

I was wondering....does anybody have any tips for the soreness caused by being bed bound? By the end of day two, my body was so sore all over from laying down. I switch positions frequently, but am only comfortable on my side, so I basically just roll from side to side.

I would try and get an anti pressure mattress if you can. Im bed bound more often than Im in my wheel chair and i don't know how i cope for so long without my anti pressure mattress. Don't get me wrong it is still hard for me to get comfy but it does help a lot.

Wow Doomed, I knew that you were bed bound much of the time due to your condition (BTW, I have read up a bit on your condition since we started talking, and it sounds absolutely excruciating), but I did not realize that you were wheelchair bound otherwise.
You truly are an inspiration ...I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. You always try and stay positive, and that really is wonderful. I just wanted to tell you that I think you contribute a lot to this thread and I'm glad you are here. xoxo :)
 
Yeh been in a wheelchair for nearly a year now. Awwww thanks sugar you are really kind :) you are also a great member of this thread you are very caring and make people feel welcome <3
 
Man can positive thinking go along way sometimes. Sometimes just negative thoughts can worsen an injury, after an extremely long stretching session was able to do some light exercises ( chin ups and pushups ) just the appearance of some natural endorphins made me more positive about my injury.
 
Ugh I screwed myself, I ran out of my OxyM 5days early...Had a real bad week and decided to take extra. First time i ever let this happen. Guess ill be in the extra pain but I have BT Roxies which should hold me until my appointment.
