People who think weed isn't a drug aren't the brightest crayons in the box...
They use the excuse "Weed is natural, so it's not a drug."
Well...Psilocibin mushrooms are drugs, right? If you mash poppies together and form a past called opium, that's a drug, right (morphine and codeine are both present in opium)? Mescaline is a drug right? All you do is get it from a cactus. Tobacco is a plant, right?
However, I do agree that there are flaws with the Controlled Substance Act of 1970 and how drugs are scheduled. That being said, weed is one of the most abusable drugs out there, and that's how the DEA schedules work. Schedule I=no medical value (not saying weed doesn't have medical value, it should probably be a C-II) AND highly abusable, or so abusable that the medical community disregards its medical values (i.e. heroin)...
