Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

It's not really gory , it's more of what they do , torture etc. the subject matter is really bold . At times you find yourself asking wtf am I watching , but you can't turn it off because it so beautifully made .

Just saw Samsara and I cannot say enough about this movie. There is no narration or dialogue, just incredible music and imagery and the most amazing meditation on what we humans create and destroy, what is eternal and what is fleeting and the mind-blowing beauty and pathos in all of it.

^ lol.. it drags on, it's more an Aussie thing, but some major cover ups going on in it.

Was awesome, havent seen that in ages...Might have to find Samsara to watch sometime.

i am aussie, mate. the production value makes the message not worth getting. it was fucking terrible.

i recently saw Looper which was by the same dude that directed Brick

it has bruce willis in it and is a sci-fi/action/drama and was very enjoyable in the cinema

some very priceless scenes, one where all that is happening is brucey walking in a strange way after getting shot in back in the desert, and its strangely very comical

L2r check out the snowtown murders , it's an Aussie film , really disturbing but good. Hard to understand their thick Aussie accents sometimes

Also I saw looper .
Some scenes in that movie will be talked about for a long time . Brilliant movie . 10/10

Oliver! (1968)

Was pretty distracted throughout, but from what I did watch, it was a good film. ;) Seriously would've been sad though without the music, lol.

bernie

a slow arthouse/autobiography. not at all what youd expect from jack black playing the leading role.

it leaves you confused and questioning if you'd wasted time.

who is right; and who did wrong?

its a fun yet disturbing watch. a drama (and obvious linklater production), indeed.

^ Hmmm...Was wondering about that one.

Was pretty good, thought it would be grittier though, more turns etc...Got the feeling that Andy Serkis was in it just to lend some of his credentials- seemed a bit redundant. Slight dissapoint but pretty good show, great acting and nice feel-good factor. :)

Really liked this. Had picked it up in video store and was feeling dubious about how the acting would be; then someone posted a good comment about it on here and was glad I watched it. Definitely great ambience in it, great acting, my kind of thing anyway.

Absolutley great show, very depressing(a tad indulgent with the pathos) but very impactful. Have yet to see a film starring Eddie Marson, that hasn't been been seriously impressive.

I saw Taken 2 a few days ago. It wasn't as good as the first one, but it was still epic as hell, but hey it was full of dramatic scenes, explosions, scenes of foreign countries, etc so it's all good.

Also I saw looper .
Some scenes in that movie will be talked about for a long time . Brilliant movie . 10/10

yeah i forked over dough on cheapskate tuesday to see this. didn't think of it as much as you. it starts off great, but then becomes silly and for the most part quite boring. i dunno, they really dropped the ball on the score in those farms scenes.

the real failure, however, is the crappy time travel philosophy it uses. the paradox mechanism is both inconsistent and cheap.

oh and the make up on gordon-levitt was really silly looking and distracting.

Men in Black 3

The worst of the series.

I give it (a generous) 1.5 stars.

Dark Shadows

Bottom of the barrel Burton/Depp collaboration. JD, wearing a lot of make-up, makes up as much as he can for what is, otherwise, a wholly unlikable film. The plot rambles incoherently. The film doesn't know what it is. Almost completely void of redeemable qualities, in a world full of mediocre vampire films and television shows, "Dark Shadows" is an unjustifiable venture.

Werewolves, vampires, bad jokes, blue make-up: go fuck yourself, Burton; you arrogant cunt.

0.5 stars.

Peep World

Despite the overwhelmingly bad reviews, it has far more going for it than most of the predictable template crap that Hollywood produces.

3 stars.

The Two Jakes (otherwise known as Chinatown 2)

Nicholson attempts to revive Jake Gittes by producing and directing a sequel to Polanski's "Chinatown". Although the film (a notorious misfire among critics and cinephiles) ends Nicholson's short and unimpressive career on "the wrong side of the camera", it isn't quite as bad as I'd been lead to believe. My Dad, traumatized as he was, like a "Star Wars" fan post-"Menace", warned me a thousand times when I was growing that it was one of the worst films ever made. Consequently: I was afraid of tainting my idolization of Nicholson; and, for most of my life, have avoided watching "The Two Jakes".

I figured it would be like seeing a fat wheezing Marlon Brando, or listening to any of David Bowie's last five or six albums. Like seeing Daniel Day-Lewis taking a shit on P.T. Anderson's face. Or Iggy Pop singing a fucking duet. But, it's not like any of that. When I first saw Day-Lewis squatting on top of Anderson, something died inside of me. Whereas, Nicholson is still very much alive.

"The Two Jakes" doesn't ooze style and it lacks the brutality of "Chinatown". It doesn't live up to the masterpiece that inspired it, but it functions as an entertaining and watchable film. Compared to "Chinatown", it is terrible; but, on it's own it is better than average.

If "Phantom Menace" (frame for frame, exactly as it is) was the first Star Wars film ever produced, it would have received more of a positive reaction.

"Two Jakes": Two Point Five Stars.
